Mrs. Nachos's Picture
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer Engagement Date: May 22, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
About Mrs. Nachos

So today at work, I got an IM from Mr. Nachos informing me that if you Google Wyndham Sugar Bay Wedding under images, a picture of me comes up. I thought that was kinda funny considering we haven’t had our wedding yet. :) Then, out of curiosity, I decided to Google myself. Come on now, you can’t tell me that you haven’t done it. And what do I find? A link to my Wedding Channel profile.

Hold the phone. I never signed up for anything on Wedding Channel!?@?!

My “profile” was full of info complete with my full name and Mr. Nachos’ full name, our wedding date, and a link to our registry (on which nothing has been bought yet :( but I digress).

Now, I personally don’t particularly care too much, but Mr. Nachos likes to be more on the private end of the internet spectrum. So I went on the BBB registry website to see if this was something through them that I could disable. Um, negativo.

My next step was to go on the BBB Live Chat.

I was connected with a helpful little invisible web chap named Bryan. I informed him of the discovery, gave him the link, and asked if this was something created through BBB. Guess what? It is. They automatically create a profile of you and your fiance with a link to your registry. I can honestly say that I never knew this and I don’t believe I was informed, although I tend to skim over fine print so it’s possible that it was brought to my attention in REALLY small font.

So this is just a heads up: if any of you registered at BBB and have any psycho exes that you don’t want crashing your big day, a crazy aunt that may flip if she knew you were getting married before her, or a boss that doesn’t know you’ll be taking a week vacation in a few months, you may want to look into that. I asked Bryan if it could be disabled and he said he’d put in a request to have it removed. We’ll see what happens. I guess when you put it out there, it’s everywhere!

The same thing happened to me! Not just with BBB but with Macy’s. The thing is, the registry I started at Macy’s I never meant to complete! I didn’t delete it either. And apparently it had our wrong address because some friends (who aren’t coming to the wedding) found the Macy’s registry (instead of going through our website — grr) and ordered us some stuff from there, which was promptly returned. I explained the situation and they were like, oh we’ll order it from BBB! Which was about 3 months ago :)

Uh-oh. FI DOES have a crazy ex who I can totally imagine crashing the wedding. It’s hours away, but she’s THAT psycho… Looks like I have some work to do! Thanks, Nachos!!

Definitely something to be careful with! Maybe asking for gift certificates might be safer?

Found this out the hard way- I was engaged a few years ago, and STILL had the old profile when registering with my fiance last year…surprise! Reminder of an almost huge mistake that was a major pain to delete!

yikes! I think I did know that about the BBB registry thing, and even though I am registered there you can’t find anything on me. Even if I do mine name + his name

My first and last name is so common you find tons of me on google - but none of them are actually me! Just imposters lol - Excpect when I was still a real state agent - then even my cell # was all over the WWW

Same thing with Bloomingdales. I was livid when I came across it online. I have a crazy ex (luckily he didn’t show up at the wedding, though he did send a super creepy card, wishing us years of fidelity. WTF?). I was more annoyed because it creates such an ugly website. I didn’t want my wedding to be connected to it.

I think it happens with any registry that’s linked to Wedding Channel. FYI.

Ick this happened to me too. I went through 1-800 automated help line hell to get it fixed, but now only our wedding website comes up when you google our wedding.

I registered at Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma and Target - mine is on the Wedding Channel too. Just wanted to make you girls aware that registered at those places (not sure which one landed me on Wedding Channel).

Thanks for posting this! BBB did the same thing to me. I also did the live chat, and the woman I talked to said it would be taken care of 3-4 days.

Uh oh! That’s terrible! Can’t they trust that you’ll get the word out to your guests?? Um yeah. Looks like crate and barrel did that to me.

yeah, this happened with me also, with bloomingdale’s. i think a lot of the major places with which people register automatically get connected to weddingchannel. i’m hoping an ex will show up so he can eat his heart out. he.

Ugh, thanks for the heads up! We don’t have any ex’s that may crash, but I still don’t like the idea of someone finding it, especially if they’re looking for Mr. KM in a professional capacity.

I DEFINITELY understand it being an invasion of privacy— but I did find it helpful in finding people’s registries when I went to a bunch of weddings last summer. That said, my BBB just popped up on there and of course I sent them a nasty email to get it off :) My main beef is that it stays up for a looooong time after the wedding. Too easy for prying eyes to know that no one got my the duvet cover I wanted!

Good to know - hopefully I’ll be able to stop this before it starts!

Hm. Very interesting. Thanks for the heads up. Of course then I had to Google myself and FI because I just don’t like open info like that out in the world wide web!
Thankfully nothing thus far but a MyRegistry profile that takes you to a blank page because we don’t have a “profile”. I’m really happy now that I decided to put a password on the MyRegistry Registry!

SO FRUSTRATING! Thanks for the heads up! I am calling right now to have ours disabled!

ALSO, if you sign up for the knot with your actual names and wedding date (like I assume most people do), they will automatically make a wedding website (bare bones, but still) that people can find by typing in your names in the website search on their site. When I inquired about having ours removed (because our site is hosted through Wedding Window), they said it wasn’t possible. My solution? Change our names on the knot. Now no one can find us there, muuuhaha :)

This exact thing happened to me. One of our exes found out we were engaged via FACEBOOK because they searched one of our names. This big ad popped up talking about our wedding! Ugh. They got some not-so-kind words from me about it.

HOLY COW! You’re right! I just googled myself - yeah, same thing. It’s kinda creepy that they don’t let you know, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it, but I do agree with Meghan - I have searched for couples in this way to find their registries and really appreciate the easier (while creepy and stalkerish, I admit) access to their registry info.

We did have a crazy ex situation because of the Wedding Channel thing! NOT fun. So we opted to cancel our BBB registry since that was the link.
