Very, very early in wedding planning, I was searching for Penn State inspiration around The Knot, and I came across a Real Wedding feature that grabbed my attention. The couple had met at Penn State, and were married in a beautiful winter ceremony in Philadelphia.
One way that they paid tribute to their PSU romance was by naming their reception tables after people and places at Penn State!
Here is a picture of one of her final products:

I knew we had to do this! It was such a cute and understated touch. I searched all over and was able to collect pictures of people and places that Burger and I felt represented our Penn State experience. It wasn’t hard for us to narrow our list, since we needed about 30 for all of our tables!
Here is the final list we came up with for all of the PSU girls out there:

I actually attempted this DIY project 3 times before I was successful. It’s not even difficult! I just made some rookie mistakes.
My first mistake was printing all of the pictures out on photo paper using my deskjet. After looking through them, I really wasn’t satisfied with the print quality so I decided to order prints. I had the pictures printed, and I was really liking the way that they looked, so I proceeded to cut all the cardstock and begin gluing everything. Yes, I used glue. Wrong. Everything started curling up and looking ugly. Fail. I threw those out and put this project on the back burner. For about 9 months.
Fast forward to last weekend. I decided it was time to get. these. done. For reals.
I had re-printed the pictures over the holidays, so I broke out the cardstock and started cutting away. I was sure I had some glue dots or other appropriate adhesive somewhere in my craft box, but it wasn’t until I was done cutting up 60 pieces of cardstock that I realized I did not.
Crap. I didn’t feel like running to the store, so after a few moments of frustration, I thought like Cola and broke out my X-Acto knife! A few quick nicks in the corners, and everything was firmly in place.
Behold, the DIY project that would never end:

Over the last 18 months or so Cheeseburger Mom and I have been collecting these cute little black easels from Walmart ($2.99 each, I think):

And here’s what a table location sign looks like displayed:
Once we get our final head count, I’ll be putting together a diagram of the ballroom so that people know where to find the Joe Paterno table, for example.
Are you doing traditional table numbers or switching it up a bit? Did any of your DIY projects take a little longer than expected?
