Mrs. Hamster's Picture
Mrs. Hamster, New York City Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy Engagement Date: March 9, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Pierre Hotel About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
About Mrs. Hamster

I am soooo out of my league. When it comes to our invitations, that is. One great thing about Weddingbee is that it showcases many bees’ awesome DIY invitations. Like these. Or these. And we can’t forget about these! Of course, these lovely ladies know how to make Illustrator their bitch and make the process look super easy. Whereas, I can’t make anyone my bitch… not even my trusty pal Microsoft Word. (Word, we’re still pals right? Don’t leave me. Please.) Whatever. I was determined.

So with a persistence only present in the most ignorant and foolhardy of individuals, I plowed ahead and ordered some Lettra paper, confident that I would figure the rest out later.

A week later, I heard from a little birdie (alright, Mr. Hamster) that a package had arrived for me. Huzzah!

The Long, Long, (Long) Road to Our Invitations (Hamster: 0, Paper: 1) : wedding invitations stationery Lettra Lettra+

The Hamster will set you free.

With visions of beautifully handcrafted invitations dancing in my head, I reached for the scissors to liberate my Lettra. Searching for the taped-up opening, I circled the box carefully only to find…. no opening. Huh? I circled again, only to find a whole lot more of nothing. Yes, it looked like a completely seamless cardboard box. I was thoroughly perplexed.

That’s right - I couldn’t even figure out how to open the box of paper.

This did not bode well.

Finally, a mere 28 minutes later, I was triumphant! Witness:

The Long, Long, (Long) Road to Our Invitations (Hamster: 0, Paper: 1) : wedding invitations stationery Lettra01 Lettra+01

By this point, my cat was staring at me with thorough disdain.

What? That’s a decent hole right? Whatevs. I “easily” ripped the box open and voila!

The Long, Long, (Long) Road to Our Invitations (Hamster: 0, Paper: 1) : wedding invitations stationery Lettra02 Lettra+02

Why there’s paper within that paper!

At which point, I proceeded to stuff the paper back into the box and hide it into the deepest corner of my closet. That’s right folks. My paper intimidates me.

Paper, you may have won the battle, but the war is still up for grabs…

Anyone else blindly stumble her way through a DIY project?

Yes, totally stumbling. Went with FH to pick out cardstock and looked at a big wall of different coloured paper, turned to a salesguy and went “you got something in an ivory kind of creamy off white but not cream?”. Ugh. My paper intimidates me too….

Haha, I totally know what you mean about being intimidated by DIY. I hope you went ahead and attempted to make your invitations, though!

haha, yeah I’m with you. I just ordered netting and combs for some birdcage veil goodness. I realized I had no idea what I was doing as soon as I hit order. Ah well.

Lol, oh Hammy. It’s okay, I’ve been hiding 50 vases in my basement for the past few months, avoiding that project entirely.
Good luck with your invites!!

@daniellemybelle: @amanda.lynn: @littlemissmoo: @LovestheBear: Good luck with your DIY! Keep us posted on how it goes :)

@denverbirdlet: @tea: @Miss Sewing: @Miss Rainbow: @Miss Guinea Pig: Thanks for the encouragement! I need it, that paper is totally bullying me ;)

@Mrs. Gloss: They were so helpful with excellent customer service!

@Miss Pug: Oh yeah, she alternates between looks of disdain, “feed me” and “Oh, you’re home again.” She’s definitely the boss of me.

@Miss Spaniel: Yeah, but it was a tough one! Gotta give them props for secure packaging, that’s for sure.

@UCLAMeghan: @Miss French Fries: @Miss Nachos: Hahaha - and it is ALL TRUE. The one saving grace as I was fumbling with the box was that I could write a post about the whole ordeal.

@Mrs. Mouse: We’ll see! I’m going to give it a try this weekend! At least, that’s the plan… :)
