Flip Flops?! Really?!?!

January 14th, 2010 @ 9:20 am by Mrs. Pencils

This is the reaction I get when I tell friends and family my chosen footwear for our wedding. I myself at times wonder if I would be happier choosing a beautiful pair of shoes like this:

Flip Flops?! Really?!?! : wedding shoes Yellow01 yellow01

or this:

Flip Flops?! Really?!?! : wedding shoes Green01 green01

I mean, how often does a girl get to splurge on a girly, shiny pair of heels? And yet, when I imagined myself on my wedding day, I realized I wanted to be me. Plain ole’ Miss Pencils. I go for what’s comfortable, cute, and simple, which is why I plan on wearing these on my wedding day:

or these:

Yep, those are green flippy floppies (I got my flippy floppies–you at Kinko’s straight flippin copies! Anyone?). No matter the season, you can find me in a pair of flips flops or a simple pair of flats. I like feminine details and bright colors that I can use as a pop of color with a black ensemble.

I plan on making some cute little ribbon flowers to add to flip flops like these above, but that’s about it. Maybe. Or I’ll just rock them normal-like, as if it weren’t my “special day”.

Are you wearing something not-very-bride-y? What is it?

I’m on a boat!

LOVE the flip flops in green. Go for it, I think the juxtaposition between a sweet wedding dress and casual flip flops is awesome!

Woot! Another flip flop bride! I would spend my whole life in flip flops if it didn’t snow here in MI.

I am trying to decide between getting the standard $5 pair in white and then adding to them or finding a somewhat more elegant sandal like version. I figure I can wait till the summer and shop every shoe store in a 100 miles radius. =) Can’t wait to see what you pick!!

But the question remains: Will you be having dolphins doing flips and… stuff… ?

I am totally doing flippies at the reception. I decided to be a grown up at the ceremony since I had worn flippies at the rest of my “I’m supposed to be a grown up” events, like graduation. Plus I wanted hot heels!

Well, I’m going all out bridal, but I’m glad you’re choosing something that you’re comfortable with! And I must say, those yellow shoes are divine.

Hmmmm I did wear flip flops at my college graduation (to my mother’s eternal embarassment). But I know with as ungraceful as I am, if I wore flip flops at the wedding, I would make the loud smacking flip flop noise trying to walk down the aisle, and that’s not what I want people to hear.

I do have a pair to change into later in the reception though.

Very cool that you’re rocking what makes you comfortable though!

@Sarah: yay! I think you’re right…exactly what I was going for!
@adias.angel:precisely my debate. there were some gorgeous ones carried by j.crew last spring but I was too lazy to buy them….now I’m afraid I have an image in my mind that I won’t find again. 5 bucks from old navy though you can’t beat!
@Ms. Library: I love the heels first and flip flops later idea- nice!
@Miss Rainbow: I know! I kind of want them just for fun…is that so bad?
@OCD: haha! that digital short gets me everytime :)

I am glad I am not the only one that isn’t buying super fancy crazy expensive high heels. I will be rockin’ the flop.

I love my flippy floppies (ever since that song came out, that’s what they are to me)–I fully plan on slipping a pair on at some point.

I wore a basic sandal from Target for the ceremony - they were simple & perfect - & changed into bright pink flip flops that I’ve had for years for the reception. & guess what?! I was comfortable all night - what a concept! ;)

i think that’s great that you’re going with something that’s comfortable. most of the time people don’t see the shoes anyway, and when they do, they’ll see your cute flip flops!

I’m wearing blue flats: http://weddingsandcookies.blogspot.com/2009/05/again-with-priorities.html for a couple reasons: 1) My fiance is my height so I don’t want to tower over them, and 2) As much as I love heels, I would never last a full day of standing, photos in grass, and dancing in them. I got them at Zappos.com and they’re perfectly pretty yet comfortable.

I love flip flops! Personally, I am bound to sandals or flats because I just can’t seem to walk straight with heels. I’m excited to look for some cute wedding-y sandals or flops!

I’m wearing flip flops too!! Mine are going to be those thick ones that make your taller though. That way I don’t have to do any alterations on my dress! :)

Say hello to my lieetle friends: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=34759&vid=1&pid=695811

My shoes aren’t flip flops, because I have to walk down three flights of stairs and I can just see them flop on my dress, me getting scared, and falling down the steps! haha.

But for the reception: I’m rockin’ a white glitter pair of TOMSshoes!
