So while Mr. Sewing and I were working on our venue selections, Sewing-Mom was out doing some planning of her own:
They’re 6×9″ glass tealight candle holders bought from Ross, with the Chinese double-happiness character on the front (commonly used for weddings).
She thought they’d be perfect accents to our tablescapes, and I agree. We stalked every Ross from San Francisco down to San Luis Obispo in order to get about 20 of them, so you can blame me if you can’t find any! (Though they also have a chandelier and a zebra version, if that’s more your theme.)
The only problem is that they are super fragile, so we may not be able to ship them to Hawaii.
We can, however, use them for our second, at-home reception in my hometown. And there are Ross stores in Hawaii as well, so there’s even a chance we could find them there (though maybe not a quantity of 20).
Destination wedding planners, did you ever find yourself limited by what you could reasonably ship to your location?
That’s our biggest problem regarding the OOT bags. We really didn’t want to ship anything cause it can get REALLY pricey, so we’re planning on buying a lot of stuff for the bags once we’re down there. I hope you’re able to find more in Hawaii!

Very nice! A friend brought back a Double Happiness paper cut for me from China this year and I love it! Sorry you can’t ship these to HI though

not answering your question but I love this character! I have it tattooed on my foot 
that’s cool that your mom found them at ross! if only i had the intestinal fortitude to shop there [i don't have the patience to deal with the usually cluttered shelves at my local store]. i wonder what other treasures that could be found!
I work at ross and we get things EVERY week day. If you want or need more of these make sure to check back, because they will get more. One caution is that these are so fragile, I wouldnt even try shipping them. We receive about 1/2 of these broken or damaged and that is with a significant amount of packaging.

sigh yess… story of my life. i’ve actually looked up to see if they have an ikea in Lyon, France (my destination city)! and they do! now i just have to convince the Fi to rent a car so we can drive there. i figure ikea would be a gold mine in terms of cheap decorating stuff.
Very cute. We’re debating including the “double happiness” character as well, since the fiance is 1/4 Chinese and it’s something his g’ma mentioned as a typical presence in Chinese weddings.

They are so adorable and would be perfect for our reception too. I don’t live anywhere close to a Ross though, boo. Make sure you show us pictures of what they look like all lit up

HI I was wondering if you still have these or did you end up giving them away at your reception. funny thing is I live on Oahu and i went to every single ross here and bought them all but I only have 16 and im hoping they’ll get more in but i would love to buy them from you if you still have um
