About Mrs. Nachos

Me: “Hi, my name is Miss Nachos.”

All: “Hi Miss Nachos!”

Me: “I have an addiction to buying bathing suits on eBay.”

All: “We can help you!”

Me: “Um, no. No you can’t.”

Every year I buy a new bathing suit and a new winter coat. I almost never go clothes shopping unless I’m looking for something specific like a pair of jeans or a going-out top, so these are my biannual splurges. In the past few years, I’ve actually gotten to the point where I think about what kind of bathing suit or winter coat I want for so long that by the time I find one that I like online, the season has passed. So it’s actually been a while and I thought I was happy with my swimwear collection until something snapped in my noggin. Let’s call it withdrawal. When I started planning our trip to St. Thomas, an eBay bathing suit bidding monster was born. It’s ridiculous, really. In the span of a month, I bought this…

I’ll Take One In Every Color, Please : wedding honeymoon 11 1

(source) Buy it Now price of $17.95!

Then, because it was such a perfect fit, I bought this…

I’ll Take One In Every Color, Please : wedding honeymoon 21 2

(source) – the seller accepted my best offer of $8.00!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand this…

I’ll Take One In Every Color, Please : wedding honeymoon 31 3

(source) Um, winning bid of $4.99? Yes please!

Yep, they are all the same Old Navy halter swim suit. But they’re different colors! And they cost a lot less than in the store! And I can mix and match! And OK, the teal one was a little saggy in the drawers, but I can still wear it while lounging in a chair poolside, right? And the brown one was only $4.99!

My boss became aware of my, erm, situation, and it got to the point where every time a package was delivered to me at work, he would shake the box and go, “hmmmm, let me guess… a… bathing suit?” He said it was a good thing that the company I order our office supplies from doesn’t sell swimwear because I’d probably try to buy more on the company dime. Pshaw.

I figure at this point that the 3 new swimsuits that I have should be more than enough for a 2 week trip to the islands, and I’m happy to report that I haven’t bought any since November. I believe my addiction has officially subsided.

For the most part.

Kinda.

Though after going on eBay for the first time in months to grab the above pics, and seeing that I still have 4 swimsuits in my watched items list, I’m starting to get a little itchy. Must. step. away. from. the. computer. Is that a hive? Oh god, my mouth is getting dry.

What’s your honeymoon swimwear strategy? Are you going for quantity, or splurging on one or 2 really awesome new suits?

Oh man, I haven’t thought about my swimwear yet. But I did get a couple new swimsuits last summer, so hopefully they’ll carry me through. I’ll only be there 5 or 6 days.

I went on a Victorias Secret swim suit buying binge last summer before our trip to Hawaii. I bought 4 in three weeks. It really is addicting! My favorite part was having enough suits to choose from that I could change in the afternoon.

When I was younger (I’m an old encore bride this time) I had more than 2 dozen bikinis. I love bathing suits. I would go on vacation with a different suit for EVERY day! Now I own maybe 6 or so…. but I’ll be buying more for the honeymoon but can’t fit into the cheaper ones. Now I need the support and coverage only money can buy!
But your post reminds me of me when I was younger. :-)

Ummm, I live in Florida, which means I pretty much live and breathe in a swimsuit for about 9 months of the year. This means bathing suit shopping is not only an addiction, but also a necessity.

I am such a serious swimsuit shopper, that I call a certain store in Hawaii at the beginning of the season to try and get my favorite fitting suits in their newest patterns before they sell out. I can’t help it. I’m really picky.

I think I need to join SA (swimsuits anonymous) with you. My enabler of choice? figleaves.com — they have seriously cute bikinis AND underwear AND sleepwear, and pretty frequent sales. A close second is the VS clearance section!

LOL @ciyra — I totally hear you.

I’m large chested, so I buy all of my swimsuits from J. Crew’s “special sizes”. To say I stalk the final sale section for matching tops and bottoms would be an understatement. But they retail for like $100! I was able to get one last year for like $30 with the cutest paisley pattern.

I have three swimsuits now…will probably buy another before the honeymoon haha

This might sound insane but I want a daytime swim suit and an evening suit. That’s reasonable, right?

I am in love with just about every bathing suit that Anthropologie has in stock. They are more than I would ever spend on a bathing suit for a regular summer… but what better time than my honeymoon to splurge?

I bought lots of swimsuits from VS at the end of the summer. They were so cheap and shipping was free with a purchase above $100 so I thought it was worth it to buy lots and send ones back that didn’t fit. I took 4 swimsuits with me on our honeymoon cruise! I understand the addiction…

VS semi-annual sale, with an additional 20% off coupon. I bought 3 tops and 2 bottoms, all can mix/match, for like, $35. Serious.

And then we went to Cancun (mini vacay) and I wore the same single suit the entire time. All the other pretties didn’t even get unpacked :(

But that was pre-engagement. I see another splurge in my future :)

Pretty much the day after we booked our honeymoon, I started shopping for swimsuits. They’re addictive!

Swimsuits. Drat, something I hadn’t thought of. Maybe you can cure your eBay swimsuit itch by helping me buy bikinis! Because I’m terrified of them, and pretty much only own the competition and practice suits I used to wear in college :-/

Oh, I feel you on this! We went on a cruise last summer and I seriously bought like 7 new bikinis. I brought more bathing suits that I could possible wear. It was awesome.

Honeymoon swimwear strategy? Going north in the winter. Wearing sweaters I already own instead. ;)

Since I lost weight my aunt bought me a suuuper cute C&C bikini, but I don’t think I’ll be able to wear it due to persistent self-consciousness issues, lol. I love that red one of yours though, very nice!
