Last weekend, Burger and I, along with my parents, met in State College for our last big push before W-day. We met with most of our vendors, and finalized a lot of things. It was crazy busy, exhausting, but also fun and exciting. Ready for a crazy recap of the weekend events? Hold on, here we go!
On Friday night, Burger and I met with our DJ to go over our song choices and playlists. This meeting was quick, chill, and really productive. We ended up switching around the order of some things, but everything we chose was alright with him, so it went very smoothly!
On Saturday morning, I had my hair and makeup trial. It took 3 hours, so we were running late for our other meetings, and I totally forgot to take pictures! I’m sorry.
But basically, it went like this: I brought pictures of brides with big, loose pretty curls (specifically, this gorgeous chick featured on ritzybee), the hairdresser proceeded to use a half inch barrel curling iron on my entire head, and then pull the curls apart, which resulted in me looking like a 4 year old version of myself, dressed up like a lion.
Seriously, I wish I had taken pictures at that stage. At the time, I was kind of (really) upset. But, once I explained that I thought we needed a (MUCH) bigger barrel iron, she was on board (she did, of course, explain that she had only used the smaller one because she thought my hair would fall and eventually look like the picture… she didn’t know how well my hair holds curl), and we got the look correct. Really, my hair is only going to look slightly different from how I normally wear it, but I’m OK with that. ![]()
The makeup trial went well, but I was really shocked by the end result because I don’t usually wear a lot of eye make up, and I had asked for a smoky eye (I got it!). Later in the evening, Cheeseburger Sister MOH (who always has flawless makeup), redid my eyes with browns and pinks instead of greys and silvers, and it seemed to work better with my skin coloring, so I’ll be making that change on the big day.
Overall, I think I could probably do my hair and makeup myself with good results, but everyone keeps telling me to just get it done and not worry about it… so I think I’m going to listen.
After my trials, we went to the local rental company to scope out gels for the par-can uplights that I wanted to rent. They had told me that they had “100s of colors,” which, in reality, turned out to be about 20. One purple, one pink, one peach, none of which were the shades that I had envisioned. They said that they could order more gels, but I wouldn’t be able to see them in person before hand. I was disappointed, because I had set up this meeting months in advance and called a week prior to our visit to confirm, and lots of things seemed to have been lost in translation.
We left that slightly frustrating meeting and went to a really fantastic one - our floral trial! Even though she wasn’t able to get our exact flowers and colors for the trial, Stephanie at Woodring’s was able to show us exactly what she had in mind from what I had told her at our first meeting. It was far better than I could have imagined!
The tall centerpieces were incredibly substantial, and she took my idea of using strands of pearls and ran with it:

I don’t know why, but this mini piece was my favorite part of the whole trial!
She also had two low centerpieces for us to alternate with the tall centerpieces, both of which were ridiculously beautiful.
We all were blown away and incredibly pleased. We made little tweaks here and there, confirmed that the colors will be adjusted slightly, and that we’ll be getting our anemones, ranunculus, and picaso calas, and we were on our way!
Then we were off to the hotel to go over quite a few details. Everything went very smoothly, and the meeting helped me relax a bit about some of the things I have been stressing over! One bit of really good news? The ballroom is being remodeled, and it’s already about 80% done! The walls in the ballroom used to look like this:

GREEN. Very green.
Now, the walls are a beautiful ivory! It really brightens the room and opens it up - it looks so much larger! We are really excited that the remodel happened at all, and also very happy that it’s going to be done before the wedding.
We also picked up a delicious tasting cake from our baker, Heather Luse, for everyone to taste… yum!
On Sunday, we met with our priest to go over the details of our ceremony, and finally we met with the organist and cantor in the afternoon.
I get tired just writing about this! It really was very busy, but I feel a lot better after ironing out a lot of details.
