About Mrs. French Fries

Because You’re Worth It.

When looking through my makeup bag, you’d find all of the latest brands from an exclusive boutique located down the street from me. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

Yes, that’s right — I’m a drugstore beauty bride. I prefer Carmex to MAC gloss; L’Oreal to Lancome. So, you see… when I started pricing day-of makeup services for w-day, I had to get used to the idea of paying *a lot* more than my usual $15 for foundation. I’m pretty frugal when it comes to beauty products, but I know that I want something outstanding for the day of our wedding. Which is why I scheduled a trial with a makeup artist and tried airbrushed makeup this weekend for the first time.

I thought I wanted smoky eyes and something fairly dramatic going into the trial, but when the time came, well… the artist kind of steered me in a different direction. You see, I don’t wear tons of eye makeup on an everyday basis. Foundation, blush, a bit of shadow, some liner and mascara and I’m pretty much done. And, on our wedding, I want to look like myself, only a bit fancier and more polished.

Since I have pretty good skin (not too oily/dry, and few blemishes), my MUA felt that airbrushed makeup was my best option. It would stay on longer and feel lighter than regular foundation. Sold! She said she would do smoky eyes if that’s what I wanted, but that I might feel it was a tad too much. I had a brief flashback to a sorority formal where I told the department store makeup girl that I wanted smoky eyes and walked out looking like a raccoon… and quickly decided to take her word for the “polished natural” look.

Letmetellyou… airbrushed makeup is awesome! It seriously felt like I had nothing on my face. Nada! Zilch! Zero! Ok, you get the point. But seriously, I felt like I wasn’t wearing a stitch of makeup (very odd, but very neat at the same time!) She did my eyes, cheeks, and brows, and let me pick either gloss or lipstick. Since I’m a Carmex girl, I chose the gloss. You want to see the results? Ok, hive… here’s my before, sans makeup… be nice! (Sorry about the bathroom picture and bad lighting!)

Annnd…here’s the subtle, polished after (I apologize for the camera in the shot… I suck at self-portraits).

What do you think? Overall, I like it. I think it looked better in person (something about crappy bathroom lighting and self-portraiture will do that to you), but I might have her play my eyes up a bit more on w-day. I love, love, love the gloss she used on me, though — I might have to get the brand/color info from her and incorporate it into my look post-wedding!

Did you schedule a trial for your wedding day makeup? How did it go?

I definitely agree, you need more pop on the eyes, but other than that, you look great! And you’re absolutely correct, that gloss looks amazing on you!

You’re gorgeous w/ or w/o makeup.

I was seriously on the fence about airbrushed make up. Thanks for doing a test run. I think I’m going to try it. I just need to find someone in town that does it.

Your makeup looks great. If you want to try anyone else in Milwaukee, I used Laurel at Blush and she was great! Even my husband commented on how much he liked my makeup and he’s usually clueless about such things.

I think you look beautiful in both shots! Your skin is gorgeous!! With that said, I think you should play up your eyes a bit more for your wedding day. Everything else is perfection.

I think you should play up the eyes a bit more! At least experiment a little before the wedding. I do think the airbrushed make-up looks fantastic!

you’re so naturally pretty, i agree with the other bees that you don’t need much else to add..if anything, just a darker eye.

You’re so pretty! I would have your MUA skip the white inner eye liner, it kinda shrinks your eyes. I think they look better in the no makeup pic, no offense. Your skin looks amazing though!

WOW! I thought the first pic was WITH makeup! I like it a lot, especially the lips! I went with drama on the liner and lips (red!), but did a nude eye. My MUA was AWESOME. If anyone in the Chi needs one-she does the best job for a great price. I am the person who buys cheap make-up or keeps it for too long, but I have realized the difference in quality make up. I love Target’s E.L.F. line, but there’s no beating out M.A.C., Bobbi Brown, Smashbox, or NARS. It’s really worth it sometimes to spring for the good stuff.

Oh and you’re so right about the airbrushing-it feels like nothing at all. The false eyelashes and red lips got on my nerves a little, but I didn’t even bother with the rest of my face aside from a quick swipe with M.A.C. blotting powder.

I could have written the first half of this post… ;) But I’m not sold yet on having someone else do it for me! So much money!!!

Your makeup looks fantastic, but I would definitely go for a slightly bolder eye. Because… why not? :)

I love it love it love it! You look gorgeous! Your eyes are perfect- shimmery but also very subtle. Although, I think you look pretty good in your original-sans make up photo too!
