I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

Lovely, clear colors have a vital effect on our mental happiness.

- Miss Dorothy

Obvious statement of the day: I love pink. It’s endlessly cheerful, pretty, sometimes even a little ridiculous. While I knew I wanted pink to be the main color of the wedding, I also knew I wanted to pair it with something to make it feel a little more unexpected.

I don’t know when I stumbled upon Dorothy Draper’s interiors, but it was love. Serendipitously, she is also a purveyor of pink.

So what about her interiors are so inspiring?

Graphic prints! Stripes, florals, oh the amazingness of pattern mixing. And do I spy some hot pink in the background? Oh my yes.

This room was the last step toward realizing our color palette.

Did you happen upon your color story in an unusual way or place?

I love pink! So much in fact, my FI immediately said pink is not a wedding color when I brought it up even though he knew I was kidding. With the middle name, SUNSHINE, yellow is a given in your wedding colors lol.

@happyheart: Yeah, I saw pictures of that hotel in some magazine and fell madly in love.
@tea: I’m all about getting validation from more stylish places/people/things.

Love.that.room. Can’t wait to see your final inspiration come to life. Wish I could say I had an “a-ha” moment. We chose black & white for it’s timeless elegance, class & simplicity–all things we were going for. We knew we could weave vintage in to that palette. (The vintage theme came about only after I chose my dress & accessories.) We threw in some red (my fave color) b/c anyone who has tried to work with black & white alone has realized it’s difficult.

LOVE the stripes in that photo - so cool! And I totally agree that pink can be such a cool color to use, especially when it’s paired with something unexpected!

Ooh, I think I forgot to say this on your welcome post, but I love Dorothy Draper too! Have you read any of her books? I got distracted and got only halfway through “Entertaining is Fun”, but I loved her style. Looking forward to picking up the decorating version too. And can’t wait to see how her inspiration translates to your wedding!

@Mrs. Tulip: I actually haven’t read her books, but they’re definitely on my list of “things to do after the wedding.”
@KMSull: Green is a color!

Oooh~ I’m a pink-lover, too. I gave Mr. P a few palette options with pink, and he chose the pink, orange, and yellow one for our wedding. : )

How did I miss your introduction? A very late welcome and hello fellow DC Bee!!! I remember your comment about my not being drunk enough if I thought big slice gross. Haha! Fun times.

I would love those blue and white striped walls in my house! Fun!

I fell in love with my color scheme (peacock blue, white and gold) while touring a castle in England a few years ago… the entire room was decorated lavishly in only those colors and somehow it stuck out as one of the most beautiful color combos I’ve seen. I’ve remembered it ever since!

I have a new found obsession with all things Draper after I read the Fall 2009 edition of Elegant Bride. It features a Dorothy Draper themed wedding! Link http://www.brides.com/planning/receptions/feature/slide/221994/

Then someone submitted most of the Draper wedding to Style Me Pretty…which led to more Draper goodness!!
Link http://www.stylemepretty.com/2010/02/08/from-inspiration-to-reality-the-design-5/

I hope to use all these ideas for my own wedding in 2011. Good luck planning:)
