About Mrs. Poodle

My E-Ring

January 19th, 2010 @ 12:39 pm by Mrs. Poodle

I just realized I have not showed/talked about my e-ring at all, so here it goes!

To be able to understand why I love this ring so much and why it fits my personality so perfectly, you need to know a few things about me:

Well first, Marilyn Monroe’s quote, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” does not apply to this Poodle girl. Don’t get me wrong, I do think they are gorgeous, but ever since I can remember, there are 3 materials/things I do not like to wear.

  1. Diamonds
  2. Leather
  3. Yellow gold

To me, diamonds (especially the big ones) are just like some dresses that I totally love, but know they don’t look good on me because I don’t have the body for them.

Second, I am constantly doing things with my hands, and many many times that involves power tools, sewing machines, baking utensils, dirt, clay… the list goes on and on. So, I only wear comfortable jewelry that I dont have to remove each time I’m doing something (this is how I’ve lost SO MANY rings in the past).

The last time Mr. Poodle visited me down in Chile, we met with my MOH and without planning it, we ended up talking about Ee-rings (because she was working on making one at that time) and I shared my feelings about diamonds with both of them. I have to say that Mr. Poodle was very surprised, but he totally understood why I didn’t like the “classic” diamond e-ring.

Actually, I tried to persuade him that I didn’t want a e-ring at all, because in Chile, engagement rings are not as popular, and the classic shapes there are definitely different.

Anyway, months after that, when we were talking about our bands and the fact that my MOH was the best person to make them, he said that even though I didn’t like the classic e-ring, he wanted to surprise me with an engagement ring, since he was planning on re-proposing anyway.

So, he contacted my MOH to design and make my wedding band and e-ring (both a surprise for me) while I was still in Chile with my MOH. I knew she was going to do an awesome job, but I have to be honest, I was pretty scared. When it comes to things I’ll be wearing, I am pretty picky (that’s the main reason I started making my own clothes). :P

Well, without further ado, here’s my e-ring, designed and made by my very best Friend MOH Poodle! smile044

My E-Ring : wedding rings 113 mi-anillo1

My E-Ring : wedding rings 27 mi-anillo2

My E-Ring : wedding rings 34 mi-anillo4

I could not be happier with Mr. Poodle’s choice of ring for me because it’s SO ME!! It’s amazingly comfortable, I love the clean shape and little diamond detail. (Mr. Poodle wanted a diamond no matter what, so he made me change my mind on this one! My E-Ring : wedding rings Wink07 wink07 )

I do have to say that I’ve encountered a few eye rolls when I’ve been asked to show off my e-ring, mostly from guys. I can see how they are not used to a different sort of e-ring, and they don’t know me that well to understand how much this ring reflects ME!

How about you? Does your engagement ring reflect your personality? Is it different than a traditional e-ring? Do you find that people tend to have a hard time accepting unique engagement rings?

I love it! It has the exact characteristics that I wanted in an e-ring- low profile, comfortable, won’t get in the way, silver color. Only I changed my mind on the silver color, like you did with the diamond- I ended up with a gold band even though I am not a yellow gold type of girl- but I got it hammered and satin finished.

I have a very traditional e-ring I think. The stone shape is “different” by modern standards (cushion) because that is not something most jewelry stores carry… but its an antique cut so I feel that it will never go out of style. I haven’t gotten any negative comments about the ring itself. The only thing I’ve experienced is at Christmas while standing in a group of my mom, my aunts, and my female cousins… we were talking about how I wanted a cushion cut but I’d never tried one on before mine so I wasn’t 100% sure of how I’d like it until I got it. At that point my mom chimed in that my FI had to go online to order my ring because he couldn’t find a cushion stone available in a store– and omg the outburst! lol. No one had ever heard of ordering a ring online before and you’d think that she’d said he got it out of a bubble gum machine! I explained as best I could that bluenile is extremely reputable and the diamond was GIA certified, but I think it feel on lost ears. Cest la vie!

Ooooh! I love it. So simple and beautiful. I love utilitarian art, your ring looks perfect for a woman on the move :)

My e-ring is an aquamarine. The setting is fairly traditional, but the stone seems to throw some people off. Most people seem to like my ring, but FI’s grandmother once said that we should get a “real” ring when we have the money. I personally love my socially concious aquamarine and have no need for anyone else’s idea of a “real” ring, no matter the price :)

That’s a beautiful ring.
I think it’s funny that guys have preconcieved notions of what rings “have” to be. My FI wouldn’t have bought be a non-diamond and was totally against a vintage ring. He ended up doing a great job and I absolutely love my ring, but his ideas about it were just funny.

I have gotten looks for mine too, but only because they thought the diamond was small for what Mr. Library could afford. I hate that. I love mine and it’s totally us. Very classic, symbolic of what both of our mothers have, and my favorite color of white gold. Love it!

I am a rock climber, and my SO already knows that when he proposes, he’ll have to include a pretty chain with my ring since I’ll have to take it off quite often.

Your ring is fantastic!

My partner is viciously anti-diamond. I’m kind of indifferent - I agree with his reasoning but they are pretty and sparkly. We ended up getting something very non-traditional - a small but gorgeous emerald in a simple, classical-looking rectangular setting.

I love it so much, particularly because it is so different and unique and suited to who we are. I haven’t gotten any negative comments, but I get a LOT of double-takes. I enjoy that reaction, though.
