Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.

Registering CAN Be Easy!

January 19th, 2010 @ 2:38 pm by Mrs. Cola

Or, our unconventional registry that turned conventional….

A while ago I showed you all how I made our own honeymoon registry on our wedding website using PayPal, but I thought I’d touch on the alternate registry we did through Amazon.com as well.

I’ve read a lot of blog posts about the stress of registering. The guilt, the indecision, the overwhelming fear of the registry gun, the pressure from the store representative to put massively expensive items on your registry… the list goes on and on. But for us (er, me, since Mr. Cola didn’t really want to be bothered with this) it was pretty dang easy!

It all started with me sitting on my couch with my laptop, and I thought to myself, ‘Gee, what can I register us for that we’ll actually use? We have a kitchen and home full of stuff already, it’s not the newest stuff, but we already have it!’

So I started adding less conventional registry items we could really use, like Kelty 20-Degree Sleeping Bags, camping head lamps, a pool cue holder, Washington State Cougars Billiard Balls, and a Dual-Zone 18-Bottle Ventilated Wine Cooler.

But then I started thinking, ‘Well, Mr. C really needs a new suitcase… and oh! I wonder if they have any cool garlic peeling devices… or maybe a cupcake carrier for taking them to work…’

… and promptly added a new set of luggage, several garlic peeling items, and several cupcake accessories to the registry.

And then when I showed Mr. C how our registry was coming along, to see if he wanted to add or delete anything, he insisted that we must register for a new “grilled cheese pan”. Grilled cheese sandwiches are his specialty, and our old pan from college was pretty warped, so I added a new one to the registry.

From here it just started going downhill into boring old conventional registry-land. I was in the cookware section now, and in no time a Rachael Ray 10-Piece Cook Set, 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Magic Bullet Deluxe, and quite a few other random kitchen gadgets were added.

Around this time is when I discovered the Universal Registry, which allows you to add anything from any website to your Amazon registry, so it’s all in one place for your guests. It was all over then! I was bit by the registering bug and added new bedding from Linens and Things (click the description link on these for the photo source).

Then added an adirondack bench, coffee table, 2 chairs with ottomans and 2 side tables, from Adirondack Chair Showroom, ’cause I would love some nice outdoor furniture:

And then I had to go and decide that maybe the hand-me-down, not-so-pretty stoneware plates we’ve had for 10 years needed to be upgraded, so I registered for this lovely set of dishes, along with matching platters and salt and pepper shakers, by Pfaltzgraff:

Which only led to me thinking that since we don’t have a dining room table, maybe we needed one to put these pretty new dishes on. So I hit up Ikea and added an expandable table, 6 matching chairs, and a sideboard.

Registering CAN Be Easy! : wedding registry 0094248 Registering CAN Be Easy! : wedding registry 20809 P Registering CAN Be Easy! : wedding registry 20332 P Altogether we have 46 items on our Amazon registry for our 100 person guest list, so I’m guessing that’s about right, combined with our honeymoon registry. But do we really care if we get any, or all of this stuff? Not really! Shopping online for everything was fun for me, and now we have a list of stuff already researched and flagged for whenever we might want to buy this stuff for ourselves.

So all in all, this is one wedding blogger who found the registering process nothing but fun and easy! No guilt because, well, if people don’t want to get us something we registered for, they won’t, no big deal. It wasn’t hard to pick things because I’m an online shopping addict. And we never went to a store, so we didn’t have to deal with any of that drama either.

How did registering turn out for you? And do you enjoy adding/deleting/playing with your registry over the months leading up to your wedding as much as I do? :)

I’ve enjoyed our registry too, even though it’s pretty conventional. We’re still using a lot of junk from college, so I have no guilt asking for new things.

Registering was fun for us, too. ;) We registered for things we wanted/needed, fully knowing that people won’t buy them if they don’t want to, so there was no need for guilt!

We also registered online and avoided any pressure that way. I like online shopping, and this way I didn’t even have to spend any money. ;)

We almost registered for those exact same sheets! I do love the amazon registry…especially the universal registry button. We have a Queen extra long bed (FI is 6′7″) and finding sheets was IMPOSSIBLE! So glad we could register for them on a specialty site.

I love playing with the registry! I have a habit of looking at something, loving it, and then coming back to reality. It was fun to register with Mr. Library. The scanning guns can be fun (and trouble in the wrong hands!).

I made my registry on Amazon too! I’m a huge fan of the site, and besides the honeymoon registry, everything else you could ask for is on Amazon :]

I’m excited to register. I keep thinking we’ll probably use Amazon, but we’ll probably end up registering for some pretty conventional stuff.

After reading this, I’m kind of wishing we had done this too, rather than stick with the few tried and true standbys (PB and WS)…Hmmmmm, something to consider…

Ahahaha. This post details perfectly our registry. I’m using MyRegistry which is exactly the same as Universal Registry. Therefore have a whole bunch of stuff from a whole bunch of different sites. Bedroom stuff. Cooking stuff. Outdoor furniture. Smoker (BBQ) stuff. Honeymoon gadget stuff. You name it! Online registries rock.
But. We do have a good o’ Macys Registry for those that like to walk into a store!

@Miss Trail Mix:
Psst. I know that MyRegistry allows you to sync your Williams Sonoma registry to your MyRegistry so that there’s no overlap.
Target & Crate and Barrel are also on the list for syncing. I’d imagine they’ll be adding more stores shortly bc when I started it was just Target & C&B.

I think it’s nice that your guests have choices. Some people just don’t feel comfortable donating to a honeymoon registry, so it’s great they can buy you something more traditional if they choose!

We had all the big stuff (furniture, etc.) b/c we had put the cart before the horse and bought a condo before we were engaged, but we told ourselves unless we absolutely needed something we wouldn’t register for it, so we got by with what we had, but started a list and put something on it every time one of us said, “Darn, I wish we had…” or if there was something we REALLY wanted or had admired for a while (i.e., Fiestaware). I cannot say this enough-Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Crate & Barrel, & Macy’s are the best registries EVER-we had NO problems only good lthings to say. (We did have a Myregistry.com for our honeymoon suite and things as well.)

We started our amazon registry this weekend, and by ‘we’ I also mean me. So far we have cookbooks and gadgets, but there will be more to come for sure. It was so easy!

I echo the amazon registry love. We are just starting out so our primary registries are pretty traditional (BB&B and PB), but we have some items of amazon for fun-camping gear, power tools (fun for FH), cookbooks, and electronics.
