About Ms. Stripes

Rewind/Fast Forward: Let's Get This Party Started! : wedding relationships Stripes stripes

source, source, source

WHAT A STRIPE-TASTIC FIRST DAY!

You sure do know how to make a girl(s) feel welcome! Thank you bunches! I think we were both secretly a little afraid of negative comments raining on our love-fest and the absolute opposite proved true—we were overwhelmed by awesome and encouraging comments all day!

Crisis averted. Fear subsides. The hive is awesome.

So, let’s get this party started, shall we?

I think that before we delve into the blue skies, unicorns and show tunes that define gay wedding planning, you all need to know a little bit more about the Stripes!

Here goes. Let’s play finish that sentence.

We met on Match.com. Ain’t no shame in that right?

Okay. Okay. I’ll admit we’ve been known to say we met through a friend of a friend or some such nonsense on more than one occasion, but it’s a big fat lie! Fiancee stripes winked at me, I shot her an email, and the rest is just below for your reading pleasure.

Our first date was awesome! We met for wine at Banquette, my local wine/coffee house, then we walked to the Downtown Independent and saw Persepolis, and then we knocked back some whiskey, made fun of people, and made out at Bar 107. We finished the night with some tender (ha!) kisses in the rain. Cue music. Sigh.

Our second date consisted of a trip to the Getty, a picnic lunch, and wine in a Thermos. Wine in a Thermos?! Another sigh. Clearly she was a girl after my own heart. I don’t remember any of the art.

Fast forward six months and in true lezzyBEE fashion she moved in!

Marriage and kids and all that jazz have always been a part of our dialogue and so the next bit might seem a bit surprising. In fact, it’s actually one of my deep dark secrets here in wedding world.

See, Fiancee Stripes proposed first and I freaked the f#$k out! Seriously! I’m lucky she stuck around seeing as I pretty much pulled a Carrie Bradshaw and wore the ring in an, ahem, untraditional style (read: on my right hand).

It was just too much, too fast and even though I wanted to marry her (desperately) I couldn’t bear to slide that ring on my left finger and be an “engaged” lady just yet. This is a pretty clear example of that planning/spontaneity dynamic I mentioned in our intro! Luckily she stuck around, I worked through my issues, and our dog Oscar took care of the ring. He ate it. And that was that.

Fast forward two years and here we are, ready to chronicle our adventures for you as we plan our awesome wedding! A lot has happened, that’s for sure! We’ve traveled many miles (Paris, New York, The Bahamas, Miami, and Vancouver), made a home together, added to our furry family (now 2 dogs, 1 cat), laughed, cried, and danced.

To sum it up (or break it down)

We’re just two girls who love books, food, dance parties and each other.

*We also love whiskey in combo with any of the above!

So grab a glass, sit back, and join us as we return to our regularly scheduled programming (blue skies, unicorns, show tunes) and attempt to answer the question, how the hell did we get here?

I promised you a wild ride and I won’t disappoint!

What about you? How’d you get to the place you are now in your relationship? Any premature proposals or bumps along the way?

The Getty has a special place in our hearts, too! Many visits over the course of our relationship… sometimes just to bask in the sun on the lawn, no art involved. We ended up taking our e-pics there! :)

Very cute story! :) And uhm…I think I need a little clarification: your dog ate your ring?!?

Also, we have 2 dogs and 1 cat — yay for households where the animals outnumber the humans! ;)

I love the stories! My fiancee and I kissed for the first time (and the second, actually) under the influence of a little Southern Comfort… :)

@ Miss Frenchfries: Yup, you read correctly- our dog Oscar is a serious gobble monster and when he sees anything shiny he swoops in! Many a laundry quarter has disappeared this way, lol. But not to worry- I have a new “official” engagement ring that is sparkleicious and that I’m keeping ar away from his grbby paws ( and mouth)
@Mrs. Penguin: Sigh. The Getty. How was your experience doing E photos at there? I’ve read that they don’t officially allow it, but turn a blind eye so long as your not obnoxious?

The boy and I met on match.com about 4 years ago, and we are on pace to getting engaged (just waiting on the proposal).

Our other friend did the same and are into their second year of marriage.

Ain’t no shame in that indeed.

Um, are you sure we aren’t twins?? My partner & I have a scarily similar story! She moved in, she proposed first, I panicked even though I knew I wanted to marry her more than anything, wore the ring on my right hand (seriously! We’re twins!) I re-proposed 2 years later & now we’re planning our love fest of a gay wedding in Oct!

I guess what I’m trying to say is.. So glad you’re here! What an adorable couple y’all are!
