Save the Date Semi-Fail? :  wedding diy 0005 0005

Notes to self:

Look up the proper way to address Save the Dates BEFORE printing address labels. If you have the gut feeling that you are doing it wrong… you probably are (Oh… it’s Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmoe? NOT Mr. Joe and Jane Schmoe? ***smashes head against table***)…

After stamping the envelopes, make sure to let Mr. Buttons know that the ink is wet so he doesn’t smear the pretty bird all over the envelope…D’OH!!!! Then, feverishly attempt to touch up the ink smudge with a Q-Tip and water (you think I’m kidding? I’m totally not…).

Be VERY careful when writing the greeting inside the card, otherwise you’ll be trying in vain to disguise messed up spelling (HOW IN THE WORLD did I spell my fiancé’s name WRONG?!?!!?).

When in doubt… pour yourself a glass of wine, or other icy adult beverage.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Keep on keeping on…

I will certainly be showing you the labor of love that was our Save the Dates very soon! But, in order to get them done, I had to resist the urge to bang my head against my coffee table…

Yikes! It sucks to feel like this after working so hard on a project. But honestly I think you did OK with the way you addressed the STDs. Even though the very formal way to address is Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow, I think many women would much prefer to have their first names included.

We did a lot of the things you mentioned above… but figured save the dates weren’t supposed to be too formal anyway, so we left everything as is.

This is totally what our STD experience was like. “Do you have XYZ’s address?” “Umm…no.” “I thought you had it!” “I did, but I thought I told you what it was and I deleted the email.” Bang head here, indeed.

I thought I was being clever and cute by just addressing the save the dates to Jack and Jill. My mom thought I did the work of the devil.

I know the feeling of wedding craft frustration–that’s why I farmed some of it out. I cannot wait to see your final STDs-I hope they came out. We did a lot of research for our invites, but we still had a few mistakes-ah well.

Haha… I did this the whole way through addressing invitation envelopes… because I thought I remembered what I was doing. ;)

Awww, bless your adorable Button heart! “HOW IN THE WORLD did I spell my fiance’s name WRONG!?!?!?!?” LOL! It’s okay - you are right - WINE, BREATHING, KEEPING ON - the only three steps you’ll ever need in life! LOL! :)

I hear ya! I’m in the middle of addressing the STDs (which I totally love!) but I had to rush to query Emily Post about six times. And my old EP didn’t have the etiquette for addressing a married gay couple who share a last name - so I winged it. And then half of my fiance’s relatives live in Holland, so I kept stopping and checking the spelling of the Dutch addresses… it’s a process. And we’re breathing, and breathing… and having a glass of wine…

Awww and lolz @ your q-tip triage and spelling Mr. Buttons’ name wrong. This sounds like one of our DIY projects.

@Miss Pug: Yep! I can’t believe it….d’oh!

@Mrs. Mouse: Very true - who knows what is “proper” anymore!

@Miss French Fries: LOL! Yeah we had a batch of 5-6 extras to make later on because I was still missing the addresses…

@Miss Ribbons: Ohhh moms :)

@Miss Pencils: Haha, you are cute :)

@Miss Chicken Wing: Sooo true ;)

@Miss Snow: Gahhh you shoulda seen the panic on my face when the little bird smeared all over the envelope. I was like “OH NO - I CAN FIX THIS!”

Haha, oh no Buttons!! We had some save-the-date tension when Mr. GP decided he would help address the envelopes… which would be great, if his handwriting were legible!! Love the graphic, I’m sure the envelopes turned out great anyway :)

Haha you’re hilarious! I don’t think the addresses really matter that much, though! I think you should just leave it as it is!

Love this. We used to have a few of them at my old job. I thought it was hilarious!

My FI gets tense over the weirdest things; stuff I wouldn’t expect him to. It drives me nuts.

Hahaha- I had my save the date stressor when I was debating between two different designs that were almost exactly the same, almost yelling at F “BUT WHICH ONE DO YOU LIKE BETTER??”. But I kept my calm and remembered that at the end of the day, despite the labor of love, they are just save the dates.

And as far as the addressing, I doubt very few people will notice that it’s not exactly the “proper” way of doing it (who cares about that anymore anyway, other than great great Aunt Hazel?)
