Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HI Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Engagement Date: June 27, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

Save the Dates - Details

January 19th, 2010 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Since last we spoke, I sent off the save the date magnets. Here are the details that we included in them:

Save the Dates - Details : wedding diy save the dates Busines1 This is what was on the magnets, and we needed some sort of backing for them. We shopped around for red cardstock, thinking it would be an easy task. It wasn’t. For some reason Office Depot only carries “re-entry red”, which is the equivalent of neon red. Not what I had in mind.

Then I realized (through a ton of advertisements now sitting in my inbox), that I could get 100 free postcards from the same company (Vistaprint), and that I wouldn’t need to find the red card stock. Of course, if I’m going to have it printed for me, I might as well go all out with the design. So I went a little crazy with the card mounting. And it took all night. But I prevailed, somehow, and even made it to work the next morning. I ordered 100 postcards (yes, I know I got 200 magnets… the math is not right… but I can always use the extra magnets for something, I hope?) and 100 size A2 red envelopes to put them in.

Anyway, here’s the design!

First, just the postcard backing by itself…

…And then again with the magnet stuck to the middle!

For the back of the postcard, I made a little notice about our flight discount (through Hawaiian Airlines) to inform guests who don’t already live in Hawaii. I’ll use my little Xyron to turn these into stickers!

A little bit of good ol’ manga (Japanese graphic novels) flair. There was some cut-off on the edges of the final product, so I accounted for that. I also hope I circled the right island! HA! Mr. Sewing would kill me otherwise. I’d be an embarrassment to the family name! But I think I got it right.

(Creation of this save the date was made possible thanks to this awesome website with screen tones. [For further credit, I should say that I also modeled the hand-holding part of the picture from a page in a manga.])

Any manga fans out there?

Ohmigod….that is pure smokin’ genius! I love manga…and comics in general! (my fiance thinks I am a major scifi/comic dork and he would be right!)

We will be going to Oahu for our honeymoon in May, so PLEASE post lots of pics so I can fantasize about my destination wedding from another lifetime!

Really, like Mouse, blown away. My FI woulda loved these. In fact, I’m gonna leave this up so he can check it out when he returns from work. We looked into custom graphic novel invites, but they were too expensive & didn’t go with our more formal theme. These are GREAT!! The graphics and wording are just too much-I love!! :)

While reading about your quest for red paper I couldn’t help but wonder why you didn’t go to a scrapbook store - land of a billion shade of card stock.

HOWEVER, I am SO happy that you didn’t find the shade of red you were looking for! The backing cards you created are INCREDIBLE and I LOVE the balance of red, black, and white. You are amazing!

@jtg: haha, honestly, I was under the impression that scrapbook stores were too “high-end” and expensive. I was too scared to look! >.>”
