About Mrs. Trail Mix

The Look of Our Party

January 19th, 2010 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

As time ticks by and the wedding approaches, it’s been fun to see some of my inspirations become realities. In this case, it’s the wedding party’s clothing ensemble.

Remember when I asked you all for advice on which color suit the guys should wear? Well, Mr Trail Mix just couldn’t be convinced on the merits of khaki so we decided to go for charcoal grey instead. He trekked down to Men’s Wearhouse, where he was able to score a pretty good deal for 6 suits that included a “Buy one, get one for $100″ promotion that they frequently offer. We also ended up finding ties from Men’s Wearhouse as well. I have to give credit to Mr TM for the ties because he found them, showed them to me, and then visited multiple stores in order to try and find enough. He ended up having one of their Miami stores ship it up to New York City, where we went and picked them up today.

Although Men’s Wearhouse’s customer service is lacking, their prices are very reasonable and the quality seems to be high. I’m totally taken with the tie, I have to say…

I convinced Mr Trail Mix to model the look for us all.

Side note: Don’t you just love seeing your man in a suit? I always get a kick out of it…

And a close-up of that snazzy, awesome, practically-perfect-in-every-way tie:

This was my original inspiration picture. Pretty close, right? I love the way this boutonniere looks and I’ve already showed it to our florist in hopes that she can create something similar:

I think the groomsmen will look sharp next to the bridesmaids, who are wearing either the Sangle halter or Sangle strapless style by the ever-chic J.Crew:

I believe the bridesmaids are going to wear any gold or nude shoe of their choosing, which should blend nicely with the color palette. There may be a yellow flower hair clip on one or two, depending on how crazy everyone’s feeling.

In short, our friends are going to look good. I can’t wait to see them all dressed up!

How involved were you in the overall look for the wedding party?

Great suit & tie! As much as I love the khaki suit look, we decided on the standard black. Black and charcoal are so much more practical… weddings, interviews, funerals, etc. Unlike girls, they actually can wear their wedding attire again and again - no fair!

I love the look of charcoal gray suits, but my bf wants to go the tux route. he thinks he’s fancy schmancy!

We are also looking at mens warehouse for the guys attire. If you don’t mind how much did each guy end up paying? I’m afraid the suit we like might be asking them to spend a bit too much. Thanks!

@Liz: Not at all, here’s the breakdown:

The suits were originally priced around $450. HOWEVER, we got them on sale AND during a “Buy one, get one for $100″ bringing the avg cost of each suit to about $215. Not cheap but considering you’d pay about 3/4 of that for a tux RENTAL that you don’t get to keep, it felt like a worthwhile investment for us. We also made sure that all our groomsmen were comfortable spending the extra money on buying a suit vs renting a tux and pretty much every single one said they were in the market for a new suit anyways!

ALSO- Since Mr TM went and picked out and paid for all the suits himself and just had his guys pay him back, he got about $200 in gift certificates that we put towards the ties, which means we spent less than $75 for 6 ties!

What a great look! And so re-wearable! I tried to convince our GMs to put the $ to rent tuxes toward buying black suits, but they looked sharp nonetheless. I only wish I had gone with something a little more expensive, but re-wearable (e.g., J. Crew) for the ladies-I was so focused on keeping costs down for them.

Oh my goodness! They’re going to look amazing. I like your tie with the BM dress better than your inspiration. SO cute!
