Generally Speaking, a Hot Mess

January 20th, 2010 @ 8:38 am by Mrs. Pencils

Yeah, that pretty much sums up the Pencils in photos. Need proof? Oh, OK:

Aren’t we… attractive…

After we chose our photographer B. Scott Photography, we realized we would need some practice and time to actually look somewhat presentable in front of a camera. So we chose some outfits from our closet and scheduled our engagement photos. I’d love to tell you that we, as a photogenically challenged couple, took this day incredibly seriously and presented a new face to the world. What did we actually do during our very first experience with a professional photographer?

As I used to mutter to myself in the last hour of a three-hour block with 8th graders on a Friday: embrace the chaos.

Yep, we embraced the chaos. Embraced our odd… talents… and showed it in full force for our engagement photos! I must say so myself, it didn’t come out half bad. We wanted different poses and unique backdrops. Think playground and trees, as well as a pose that we like to think we “invented.” Can you figure out which one it is?

I present to you: the Pencils’ engagement photos. Feel free to enjoy at your leisure.

Don’t believe me on the hot mess stuff yet? Check this one out, and believe me, there were several more just like this. Note to all other brides: At all costs, find a way to avoid laughing with your MOUTH OPEN REALLY WIDE just like I seem to… especially during your e-photos…

We did manage to produce a basic, sweet photo though… although, no lie, I believe this is the only one that somewhat meets the bill of traditional e-photo:

Did you get creative with your e-shots, either in location or poses? How’d they turn out?

I love the merry go round and the one of you guys on the steps leaning over, that must have been hard to pull off. Hubs and I were pretty good taking ours, I wish we would have gotten more locations but what we did get turned out great

I love these! You guys look cute but still “you” and not too stiff or formal. I hate when engagement shoots look posed and unnatural - the whole point is uncensored joy & happiness!

lol. Your original photos remind me of the many my FI and I have. I have a frame that says trying to get a good pic and I’ve got like 5 different pictures all of us making different pics its cute. Our first round of epics didnt go well we went with an unexperienced photog and learned our lesson we’ll retake our ephotos with our wedding photog in April, I cant wait!!

Yours are beautiful!!

Your first photos are exactly like every photo of us together. We are miserable in photos.

You guys cleaned up nicely for the engagement photos, while still maintaining some of the crazy!

The merry-go-round ones are awesome, Pencils. Not a hot mess at all. You rock!

You’re photos are SO SO SO fun!! And you both look stunning in all of them!!

Hubs and I are pretty un-photogenic and we never did an engagement session. Sometimes I wish we had at least one decent photo. We should plan a session just for the fun of it!
