Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

I Have a Problem

January 20th, 2010 @ 3:12 pm by Mrs. Poodle

Well, actually, it’s a double problem.

Last weekend I finally tried on my handmade wedding dress to show all of you how it looks like on me. Well, I ran into a very unpleasant surprise: It does not fit comfortably, like it did when I made it.

My idea from the beginning was to make a very very comfortable dress, because I LOVE to dance, and was planning to do a lot of dancing on our wedding day!

I had to wear an uncomfortable dress when I was 13, so from then on I knew I wanted a comfortable wedding dress.

I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress 11 young-poodle

YES! That’s me at my first wedding! – I’m just kidding!! :P But the funny thing is that when I showed this picture to Mr. Poodle’s brother, he asked me how long my first marriage lasted!  LOL – The truth is that I was the Spring Queen of my school, and they asked me to wear a white dress.

Mr. Poodle: you know about my problem, and the rest of this post will be about rainbows, butterflies, ponies and ladybugs, so I don’t think you would want to read it! smile045

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I finished my dress about 3 months ago, and even though my mom told me I should have left the finishing touches for later, I was so anxious that I finished it anyway.

In the past I’ve had problems with weight each time I’d visit Mr. Poodle. I blame it on the fact that I usually didn’t work out as often as I did at home, plus I would always try a lot of food that was new to me… and I was always really excited about trying everything!!! But it was still my fault.  I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress Sad08 sad08

The very first time I came to visit Mr. Poodle I gained 23 pounds in just 2 months. It affected my hormones when I returned to Chile, but I lost it by eating small portions of food and 2 hours a day of swimming. But, it wasn’t good to gain and lose all those pounds in just a few months.

So, the next time I visited I was a little more cautious about what I would eat (no more 2-a-day chocolate muffins) and Mr. Poodle and I did some biking and running around the lake. smile045 That kept me on track, and even though I did gain weight again, it was not as much as the first time.

This time around I did my best to eat healthy, but both of us are easily tempted by food. We love it! And we are pretty blessed to be able to eat whatever we want, just as long as we work out, as well. But, I didn’t work hard enough, because MY DRESS DOES NOT FIT!!! (Insert freaking out face!)

Remember this picture…

I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress 2 mi-vest08

… from this post? Well, now the top 5 buttons on the back of the dress do not close and even though the dress does fit, all the weight I’ve gained over the past 3 months are all in my tummy and boobs, so I can’t really move anymore with the dress on, and I feel like my boobs are going to explode out of the dress.

Now, here are the pictures from last week’s fitting:

I couldn’t even bend down to lift Curly. I can only sit for a little bit if I hold my breath! I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress Sad08 sad08

I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress 4 my-dress4

When I made it, the see-through lace was just a detail to make it look pretty, not to cover up my boobs that are spilling over. My boobs used to fit INSIDE the dress!

Notice where the straps are in this picture!? This way I do feel more comfortable, but even if I make the straps longer, the cleavage is not the way it’s supposed to be. I Have a Problem : wedding wedding dress Sad08 sad08

But, I DO Love the purple layers and the boots!!!

So, I have less than 3 months to be able to fit in my dress again. In case I can’t do it, I’ve already talked to Poodle Mom and asked her to bring more of the same fabric with her so I can alter or add to it if I need to.

Did any of you have an unpleasant dress fitting? If so, how close to your wedding date did you wait to alter your dress?

Oh lord, my first dress fitting is this Saturday and I KNOW I’ve gained weight since I bought the dress - I am having major anxiety attacks over here about the moment when the seamstress/my mom/my MOH say “hmmm…” after struggling to get me into it!

Also I hope you know that you still look HOT and I love the dress and the boots!

Oh no! Miss Poodle, you still look beautiful in the dress. I hope you can find a way to make it work, even if that means having to alter it.

Yikes! I, too have gained weight since I ordered my dress… but it was just a teeny tiny bit too tight in the hips when I ordered it anyway (the easiest part on my dress to let out!), so hopefully I didn’t put too much weight on elsewhere… :-/

You still look great, but I know how you feel. When I gain weight, it goes to my boobs, too. Currently I can’t zip my dress all the way up, so I’ve been working my ass off. Luckily I’ve still got 8 1/2 months, but it’s still a big freak out when you realize it doesn’t fit anymore! I should just change the back to a corset and call it a day, LOL.

first, the dress looks gorgeous on you and i still cannot believe you made it!
i was thinking if your mom can send you some fabric earlier? like by fed-ex or something? so you can alter it the soonest possible and not be so worried about it.

I’m in the same excat situation! I’m on track and already have lost 10 lbs but I am so scared my dress won’t fit!

Luckily if it doesn’t, my mother said she could add a corset back.

Wow, you made your dress! That’s awesome! I think you can totally make it work with that amount of time. Eat sensibly (I’m a foodie too, so I know it’s hard sometimes!) and exercise exercise exercise! You can do it!

i definitely gain weight in my boobs as well… really frustrating! I feel your pain. It doesn’t look like you have much to lose though, you look stunning in your dress! I’ve got my first fitting in about 4 weeks and really need to start some sort of exercise regimen. We can do it!

AAHH! oh no!!
but seriously - c’mon poodle - I know you can work it off! You’re like super lady. Is there a YMCA near you? That’s the best place to go swimming! They’re usually open pretty early, too!
plus - you gotta spill the beans! what’s been the culprit of your weight gain? :D what sorts of american (estadounidense ;) ) food do you loove?? I’d mail empies to ya, but I know that wouldn’t help ;)

Will it solve the bust problem if you make the last 5 buttons into a V back? Is there any seam allowance to take out at the waist & hips? This is definately fixable :)

you look beautiful. as to your comfort–with your craftiness, i have no doubt that you will be able to whip up the necessary alterations, or 2-hour swimming sessions would probably do the trick as well. and man, you’re lucky you gain weight in your boobs.

Like the others have said…you look beautiful! And I know that you totally can Tim Gunn it and “make it work” in case some last minute alterations are needed. :)
