I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
About Miss Stripes

I’ve got chili on the stove, a cold Stella in my hand, and just enough time before dinner to tell you all about the best part of the proposal story—the part where she said yes!!!

First, a little back story. You remember there was the search, there was the perfect ring, and now the proposal.

And in between there were secret emails, best friend approvals, a very complicated financial transaction – see I was in a tiny, tiny, tiny ski town in Canada working after ski season. Seriously, we could barely find an open restaurant, let alone a bank that could do a wire transfer. Finally I worked it all out and the ring was mailed to Lil’ Stripe. She didn’t break it to me until a few days before I came home that she thought maybe a tiny, tiny diamond was missing! AUGH!

It was. And so the ring went back to Fay Cullen, and was promptly returned, all diamonds intact, to wait in my jewelry box until the perfect morning.

June 23 was that morning. I woke up super early and very nervous. I had plans to take our little bistro table/chairs out onto our roof, where I would have breakfast and coffee ready and the champagne (for mimosas, of course) chillin’ in the fridge.

I’d bought us these special coffee cups.

THE coffee cups

THE coffee cups

I set a really cute table. I perched the little box on the side of the saucer. I couldn’t find my camera (too nervous) so I had to take pics with my phone…

urban chic.

I knocked on our bedroom window (which goes out onto the roof).

Soon-to-be-Fiancee-Stripes came out, excited to be released from her prison. Oops! She’d woken up at some point and I’d insisted she stay in our bedroom so she didn’t ruin my breakfast surprise. Luckily she wasn’t too grumpy at having been locked in our room all morning!

I nervously sat down across from her and waited (it seemed like forever) for her to notice the little box. She finally looked down, and then back at me, and I probably smiled like an asshole.

Then I got down on one knee, and spit out a pathetic “Baby will you marry me?” Seriously, all the super romantic, meaningful things I’d been planning to say just disappeared! There were some kisses in there somewhere, and a yes (thank god!) and I went back to my seat while she admired her bling. I was shaking so badly I couldn’t even enjoy my coffee for a while- and man do I love my coffee! LOL

Huge sigh of relief. That was scary and awesome and amazing all at once!

Just engaged- thanks photobooth!

Just engaged - thanks photobooth!

We laughed and talked and admired her ring and drank champagne in the sunshine. Our cat Piper even got in on the action.

We drink. Piper Rolls.

We drink. Piper rolls.

Then we started calling/texting all our friends and eventually we walked down to Banquette to meet them and drink wine. Yum! As you all know, I’m all about afternoon drinks! And being engaged! We headed to another downtown establishment for a few more drinks and various friends met up with us throughout the day as we celebrated our engagement late into the night.

our children will wear scarves.

Our children will wear scarves.

Al photos in this post by little ol’ me. Except for the last photo, by my friend C Stripe.

What about you? Any other at home proposals or were you all on the side of a mountain in a foreign country frolicking with unicorns when your SO proposed? Any ladies out there that did the proposing themselves?

It was a totally joint endeavor for us! We talked about getting married for a long time, and we talked about when we would want to do it. I think I’m the one who was like, ok, let’s make this happen! Let’s really do it! It felt really good for us to have a mutual decision. Sooo… we don’t really have a proposal site — or even a proposal city. The convo spanned our relationship in Boston & San Fran! :)

Love your story though, sometimes I wish we had a “special story” like that. Nice job, I’m sure she was thrilled!

Oh, my husband totally got too nervous and forgot his proposal speech. There was a simple, “Will you marry me?” and it was just fine :) It’s such a nerve-wracking thing, even when you know the person will say yes.

Such a cute story :) Congrats!

My Mr proposed at home too! While I was laying on the couch dying from a UTI/bladder/kidney infection! He had a bunch of romantic things to say too, but none came out! :) Good job on all the planning. Its the little things that mean the most :)

The boy proposed at home right as I was headed out the door for the evening. ;) I was only gone for a little bit and then we got to celebrate and call everyone.

I proposed to my FI and it was at home, but after he said yes he told me he wanted a chance to give me a ring before we told everybody, so I had to wait for 3 torturous weeks without telling anybody while he searched for the ring. I was so glad when he counter-proposed :P

I love the at home proposal! So perfectly personal!

The man candy proposed at my house over the card game of “War” and nice bottle of wine. I was so excited about winning that I didn’t even notice “Will”, “You”, “Marry”, “Me?” written on the cards as I turned them over!

I had an at-home proposal, too, but yours was much more thought out than my fiance’s - he proposed to me on the couch while I was in sweatpants (the horror). I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Sweet. No home proposal but we went out to a fabulous dinner literally right after. We walked right over to the restaurant a few minutes after. Proposal + wine sounds darn good to me! :)

Aw, such a great story :) I love the set-up!

I got proposed to after Mr. Swiss and I sang the worst Karaoke rendition ever known to man of “You’re the One That I Want.” It was classic.

I got an at work proposal. Romantic? Not by a long shot. (You did good, stripes, you did good!) Hilarious? Yeah, we cornered the market on hilarious… and that’s good enough for me.

If I hadn’t have been 11 years older than my honey, I probably would have done the proposing, but I wanted to make sure it was all coming from him :)
