Ms. Stripes, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 29, Costume Designer/Stylist Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 29, Chef Engagement Date: June 23, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heritage Square Museum About Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!

Our Awesome Venue Revealed

January 21st, 2010 @ 5:33 pm by Ms. Stripes

I’m long winded—I know.

So let me just get right to the big reveal. Our amazing wedding location is Heritage Square Museum! It’s an amazing living history museum comprised of eight historic buildings including a barn and a box car!!!

Check it.

It’s gorgeous right?

Remember the equation:

Awesome location + booze + amplified music = expensive.

Well, not at Heritage Square! They were super nice and even gave us a great deal for booking so far in advance! AND, did you notice the BARN & TRAIN? I die.

Double score!

Did we compromise at all? Only a little…

  • Our wedding turns into a pumpkin at 10PM.

So we’ll definitely be having an awesome after-party somewhere downtown! Moreover, this will allow for all those amazing gritty/urban/crazily-lit photographs that make my heart flutter.

So, eff you Marvimon.

  • No fire of ANY kind = no beautiful candlelight or sparkler send-off.

I guess I’ll be looking into those make your own LED posts all over the wedding blogosphere.

These are pretty minimal compromises with awesome solutions, if you ask me.

There are seriously a million bad-ass locations in Los Angeles and beyond, especially if you have $$$$. there are also a million bad-ass locations if you’re broke!

Did you get a great deal on your venue? Did it involve a lot of compromise on your part?

Your venue reminds me of mine, only cooler! I love that freaking barn!! We actually compromised in a similar way: our wedding ended at 10pm (though they let us stay a little over, I think 30 minutes) and we after-partied at the hotel bar. Totally worth it!

I <3 it!!! We haven’t figured out our venue quite yet but there has already been more than a couple compromises. We’re hoping to finalize everything as soon as the main caterer in town reopens (they take long holidays).

I’m coming to the conclusion that a wedding is all about compromise! What really matters is if the “feel” is left intact.

Your location is absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations!

Really? A barn, a train, and a bathtub? I LOVE your venue! It has so much character *swoon*. We got a deal on our place because they are relatively new to the business- yay!

OMG, i feel you. I went to smogshoppe, the bigger version of the marvimon venue and my jaw dropped when they told me the rental fee was 10k!! i was thinking…what the efff are they thinking? i just cant imagine places like the marvimon and smog shoppe attracting wealthy people (biltmore? palos verdes? beverly hills?), but its always booked!

our reception is at the music center–dorothy chandler pavilion. its public space so no rental fee! still not cheap by any means, but affordable for downtown la weddings. congrats on finding the place!

LOVE your venue! We are getting married in a barn - complete with a huge stone fireplace. It is where we met at an Oktoberfest event!
