I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

Will Our Wedding Look Like That?

January 21st, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Dachshund

A few weeks ago, Mr. Dachshund saw the movie Big Fish for the first time. It’s my favorite Tim Burton movie (though I suspect that might change in a few months), and I was surprised that he had never heard of it. Much to my disappointment, Mr. D didn’t show much interest in the film… though I wasn’t really surprised; our tastes in movies are vastly different.

There was, however, one scene in which Mr. Dachshund perked up, turned to me, and asked, “Will our wedding look like that?”

Can any of you who’ve seen the movie guess which scene I’m talking about?

Will Our Wedding Look Like That? : wedding decor Spectre1 spectre

The town of Spectre, where the grass is greener than any other, and is soft enough to tread upon without shoes. And, ohhhh… those lights!

Mr. D, I can only dream that our wedding will look like that.

Since then, I’ve done a little bit of research and the lights aren’t too far out of reach, but I still need to contact my venue owner to see if hanging them would even be possible. I love, love the look, and I love even more how excited Mr. Dachshund was over them! I know he’d be really happy if I could pull something like this together.

Have you or your fiance(e) found inspiration from Hollywood, or in an otherwise unexpected form?

Those lights are awesome!! I’m trying to go for something like that but not sure it I’ll be able to pull it off. Are you renting the lights?

@Laura: Actually, I was thinking of buying them. We’re going to go out to our venue to see about footage, but they’re not tooo too expensive from partylights.com. Plus, I probably wouldn’t have a hard time selling them after the wedding. Or we could reuse them in our backyard.

That is so gorgeous! I can see why Mr. D wants that to looks like your wedding! I’m still playing with the idea of hanging cafe lights outside but this might have sold me.

I love that movie, too! I re-watched it Mr. S a few years ago, though, and we both ended up crying so much I don’t think I can watch it again. :(

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! And that scene is beautiful! I have to say that I love in Sweet Home Alabama when she realizes who she really wants to marry and she goes and gets him in her dress and they are kissing in the rain on the beach! He says, “Why do you want to marry me?” And she says, “So I can kiss you any time I want!” Not a scene to make decorations out of, but its a romantic wedding scene! :)

OMG that movie was filmed around where I live and my grandmother was an extra! She actually almost had a part in it that would have been very stand out, well to us at least. You know the scene in the church where his button flies off and hits the lady in the back of the head…well the person it hit was between my grandmother and the lady in the movie. My grandmother said the only reason she didn’t get the part is because the other lady was all “Oh I want to do it!” And trust me my grandmother can be a mean old southern woman so she would have been perfect for that part. From what I remember of the movie the lady was younger which just didn’t fit to me but oh well.

This is one of mine and my FI’s favorite movies. We always joke that daffodils should be our flowers (and if we were getting married in the summer, they would be).

Thank you so much for writing this post! I had never thought of using Big Fish as inspiration, but it is one of the man candy’s favorite movies and it would be really special to surprise him with an element or two from the film!

can’t wait to see how you try to incorporate it!
