About Mrs. Rainbow

I Want, I Need, I Have to Have…

January 22nd, 2010 @ 12:11 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Real flowers.

I know, I know, I know, I originally said nay to real flowers, but… ugh… okay… I have no good excuse. Don’t get me wrong, I love our centerpieces, and I don’t plan on changing them a bit—if we even get to use them, that is (see back story here). The flowers that I’m referring to are for the bouquet.

Yes, I’ve already made my bouquet, and originally I really loved it. I actually still really like it, but there’s just something about real flowers. I really really really love flowers, and fakes just don’t look or feel the same as real ones. And just for good measure, let me reiterate—I really really really love flowers.

See, I can handle fake centerpieces, I love my fake centerpieces, they saved me a crap load of cash, and let’s be real, they’re pretty freakin’ cute. But a fake bouquet? IjustdunnoifIcandoit. I feel like if I walk down the aisle with a fake flower bouquet, it’ll feel like I’m back in Washington playing dress up and “marrying” my neighbor, like it’s just a practice run. I think what it is, is that I like the fragility of real flowers, the realness, it’s kind of like marriage, don’t you think?

Now, before I show you my real flower bouquet inspiration, I’ll show you my faux flower bouquet (I haven’t added the feathers yet):

I Want, I Need, I Have to Have... : wedding flowers Z209271 Bouquet

I Want, I Need, I Have to Have... : wedding flowers Z20927101 Bouquet 2

Pretty, right? Whether I go the real or faux, I’ll use the same bouquet wrap because I absolutely love the ribbon and brooch, but I just don’t know if I can get down with the fake bouquet action.

Anyway, now for my real flower bouquet inspiration. First, there have to be dahlias. Oh how dahlias make me swoon. I also love peonies, but I cant have them because they’re out of season in October, so whereever you see peonies, mentally sub them for cabbage roses. I actually think I like cabbage roses better than peonies… yes, I went there:

Oh, dahlias everywhere. I die a million happy deaths. Switch out the yellows for purples and I would devour this bouquet. Like, seriously, eat it. Nom nom nom style.

I saw purple mums like the ones in this bouquet at a florist meeting I had, and it was one of the main reasons I decided that I must have purple. The color is so deep and rich looking.

Sooo, I know this is nowhere close to our colors, but use your imagination. How many of you want to die from gorgeousness after seeing Mrs. Cowboy Boot’s bouquet? I know I did. I have a feeling her bouquet will be popping up on a lot of flower inspiration blogs.

This is the bride’s bouquet is from the outrageously fabulous Jessica Claire Workshop. Need I say more?

What do you think? Should I stick with the fake flowers or spring for real ones? Will you be carrying fakes down the aisle?

Do real flowers if you can swing it! I’m so glad I splurged on the real thing. And I love cabbage roses, too! They are a great substitute for peonies–some people can’t even tell the difference! Every single bouquet in this post is absolutely stunning. Start a “bouquet” fund today, haha.

We are using garden/cabbage roses as well. They look so similar! We are ordering 72 from fiftyflowers.com for $179. I love peonies though, but December + Missouri = $15 per stem.
Ouch!
They look beautiful though! Your bouquets are fabulous.

Maybe you can make your own bouquet, this time with real flowers? Your fake one is gorgeous!! I did it, and I HIGHLY recommend it. It wasn’t hard.

I feel the same way, something about having real flowers on your wedding. My FMIL said she will help me make DIY the day before, so we will probably be hitting up some stores to see what they have.

Real! Your fake one is awesome, but there is just something about having a real flower bouquet. And I’m with you on cabbage roses as a substitute. I am still holding out for possible peonies, but those are a great option!

Definitely do a real flower bouquet! Imagine smelling those sweet blooms as you walk down the aisle. You can always use the fake bouquet for the toss if you’re doing one!

First of all, you are way too cute.
Second of all, go for the real flowers! Sure they’re expensive, but I think the “real thing” feeling is worth the money.

I desperately, desperately wanted real stephanotis in my hair, and my florist told me it would be $30 for a couple dozen stephanotis attached to hair pins. I was agonizing over it to the hubs before the wedding, and he was like “Are we seriously talking about whether it’s worth $30 for you to feel like a princess? Spend the money!” So… feel like a princess, you’re worth it! :-)

I went with fake. I really, truly loved the idea of being able to keep my bouquet forever. Today, it sits in a beautiful vase from my mom, on top of our mantle, and it makes me happy and giggly everyday to look at it.

I got the “are you crazies” and “i’ll help pay for it” but it wasn’t about any of that for me. It was about the forever.

I love your bouquet, so fruffly ruffly and pretty! Maybe just meet with a florist and get an estimate, and see if they can work with what you want..then decide?

I say you definitely have the skillz to make your own real-flower bouquet! Plus, you can preserve your bridal bouquet in a variety of ways … I saw this in the last MS weddings and I am totally going to try! (its the thing at the bottom with framing the flower petals).

I think that if it’s workable budget-wise, then you should do real flowers. Yes, they die, and yes, they’re expensive…but I think there’s something to be said for the look of real flowers (how they’re not all exactly the same, the little quirks that nature gives them…ok, I sound crazy). Also? Your bouquet is going to smell amazing, and you can’t get that with fakes! ;)

What if you make a trip to the flower mart (super early in the morning, I know) and DIY or get friends to help DIY? It’d probably be cheaper than hiring a florist.

you have to get real ones! you want them and you will remember your wedding day for the rest of your life…you don’t want to regret feeling like you were playacting at your walk down the aisle!

My initial reaction is to stick with the bouquet you already made because it’s absolutely gorgeous. But then I think about walking down the aisle and you are right, there is just something about carrying real flowers.
