Sneak Peek

January 22nd, 2010 @ 9:08 am by Mrs. Parfait

A sneaky peek at our invitation design! It’s just a little one. Don’t get too excited!

Sneak Peek : wedding invitations stationery Aa Invite Sneakypeeks2 aa-invite-sneakypeeks2

Mm mmm, swirls and dots and stuff… :P

As you can see, our entire invitation suite will be pink. I love it, and it’s cost-effective to have only one color since we opted for letterpress (squeeeee!). However, our other colors are grievously absent. I posted this inspiration board before, but just as a reminder, our complete palette includes bright yellow, pink, and orange:

Spring-y, cheerful, and fun! I’d like to showcase all three colors in our invitations to give guests a better sneak peek of what’s to come. I’ve thought of a few ways to add sunny spots of yellow and orange:

  1. Yellow or orange envelopes
  2. White envelopes with bright paper liners
  3. Ribbon tied around the invitation suite
  4. Paper belly band
  5. Fabric pocket for the invitation suite

I’m losing steam with all the invitation decision-making and can’t make up my mind. I hope you can help me out, hive! I’m going for maximum impact on minimal moneyz. Which option should I use to finish off our invitations?

Well I say orange/yellow envelope with a contrasting liner, but I’m nutty. And a ribbon around the suite is always adorable!

I think a white envelope with a pretty yellow/orange liner could be really pretty. and maybe a ribbon. Ribbons are cheap :)

Our invites are also one color. So I did my liners (in ivory envelopes) and belly band in a patterned paper from Paper Source that contained the other colors in our palette! It took maybe 3 or 4 hours to do 100 invitations. Not bad, and it definitely spiced up the invitations.

Can you print on a pale yellow paper? Some of the ivory papers look very yellow. That might work?

If the paper is thick enough, you could paint the edges (that’s what we did - VERY easy….we used a small inkpad to do it).

Colored RSVP envelopes. It’s hard to find inner AND outer envelopes in fun colors - we ended up with off-white for those, but had pink RSVP envelopes.

Write the addresses in hot pink ink!

I’m debating the actual worth of envelope liners. Their beautiful, but I feel like the only person who appreciates them is the person making them (and the ‘bee of course). After doing them for my STD’s and seeing the envelopes just ripped open, I’m not sure if I will do them for the invites.

An envelope is an easy-peasy way to add colour!

You can always matt your invites in one or both of the colors? I think the belly band and liners are a great idea though too.

I think a colored envelope and a coordinating liner would be a good way to pull some of your other colors in. (And the snippet of your invites that you showed looks great!)

What about white envelopes with colorful liners and a pretty ribbon?

I vote ribbons or colorful liners! Those should be the most dynamic and most cost effective! (And that, to me, sounds like a great plan!)

I say you should do belly band, ribbon, AND the bright envelope! That would look so pretty since you’re doing a monochrome letterpress. We’re doing the same thing and using our inserts (digitally printed to save moolah), a vellum bellyband, and a ribbon to put more color in.

Also, to put my two cents in about liners - they are too laborious and sometimes look sloppy. There. I said it. :P

Envelope Liners! Great pop of color and super easy if you have a paper cutter and corner rounder for the top of the envelope! Oh - top secret trick, only make the liner come halfway down the envelope. It’ll still cover the inside when the guest pulls the invite out, but will save you from wasting paper covering part of the envelope that your guest will never see!

I think you should let your invitations pop by using the other colors sparingly, as accent colors. So maybe a yellow envelope liner, and an orange (or yellow and orange) belly band. Stick with a white envelope though, otherwise the amount of color might get a little overwhelming. Btw, I LOVE your color scheme :-)
