About Mrs. Sewing

Well Suited

January 22nd, 2010 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. Sewing

A while back Mr. Sew’s brother had decided to come visit us for his Thanksgiving break (he goes to school in L.A.), so I thought it would be good for Mr. Sewing and our 2 brothers to go suit shopping.

All three men are fairly skinny. One is tall AND skinny. So I think we’ll be needing a more “fitted” suit. These go by many different names: modern fit, European cut, slim cut, etc. And they are really snazzy looking! Here are some samples:

I really liked the look of the charcoal suits, but Mr. Sewing prefers black, so I guess black it will be. I’m envisioning the brothers wearing red vests and ties, with nice red pocket squares instead of boutonnieres. Mr. Sewing will have a white vest and tie, with a white pocket square. He decided early on that pocket squares (to him) are much more manly than a flower, so that’s one less floral arrangement I’ll have to think about.

Maybe we’ll do something similar to this vest and pocket square?

Black or Charcoal? 2-button or 3-button? Should I give up the hunt for dragon-embroidered silk mafia vests? Do they need fancy hats? Suspenders?

Or maybe a better question - is all this fanciness going to make them pass out in the hot Hawaiian sun?

What are your men wearing? Are you taking weather into account, or is it style-all-the-way?

my fiance is tall and thin as well, and we found that more european suit styles fit him best.

A couple of weekends ago, we found a fabulous sale at London based Charles Tyrwhitt- known for their custom shirts. WELL- their suits are beautiful as well! Originally over $1300, my honey’s suit (on sale) came out to a little over $400. definitely a bargain and he will be able to use it again!!

Their website is so-so, but they have 2 stores here in NYC. if you’re in town, you seriously should stop by. beautiful stuff! :)

Snazzy! I keep picturing some of these on Jude Law. These will look awesome and I think they will be great (even in the sun!).

We bought vests+tie combos for our groomsmen via an ebay store, and they were surprisingly good quality for the price ($17 for the set), and we were less concerned about the guys destroying them with sweat at our hot&humid destination wedding too.

You may be able to get the brocade fabric if you look online! :)

Good luck!

I second Charles Tyrwhitt, their stuff is super high-quality and they have sales all.the.time. Half of my FI’s clothes are from there, as are the ties for the wedding party.

I love the slim fitting suits! I think a 2 button suit is better, but really a man in a suit is always a good thing.

I’m a fan of two button myself. We aren’t doing bouts, either. :)
