The Bad and the Ugly

January 23rd, 2010 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Pencils

The Bad and the Ugly : wedding wedding dress Badandu BadandU

Brief caveat: below are beautiful dresses. Simply put, they did not suit my body type or image of myself as a “bride” and are only “bad and ugly” on said person below: ME.

So, I have no shame, and will gleefully show you the “bad and the ugly” from my five dress shopping trips. Compare them to yours and enjoy.

“Beautiful… princessy… pickups… can I take it off now?”

“Beautiful… satin… pickups… can I take it off now?”

I realized pickups were not for me. I though I would love them on me, but… well, you have the evidence. You decide.

“I can’t breathe. It’s too small.” Clearly, I continue to excel at faces in wedding gowns…

Then: “I love it!”
Now: “Not made for my itty-bitty squad. Lacking severely in the bustage, I am.”

OK, the dress below was a second try on, after my camera died before Mama Pencils could snap pics in the original try-on. I could only find it in white after initially falling in love with it in champagne. To me, it did not have the same effect in pure white, and…

“I feel like a cake topper. Sad! This was it! Will I find a dress I love?”

All of the above dresses are either made by a complete unknown maker to me, or discontinued (as in, the last pictured Casablanca is from their Spring 2008 collection and no longer available).

What style did you find was your “bad and ugly”? Was it what you thought wouldn’t look good, or did it surprise you? If you have photos, upload or link them!

I get what you mean.. I think that last dress would be stunning in a darker color, but it looks very.. bleh in white.

Actually the third one looks great on you! But yeah, not being able to breathe in a dress is kind of a deal breaker. :)

I actually like the third one. But like Mrs. Mouse said, being able to breathe is probably a priority. :)

Sorry you had a bad first experience. There were dresses I loved in magazines that looked crazy ugly on me…wasnt allowed to take pics! But the one dress I didnt even want to come out of the dressing room in! LOL!

you are probably just going for the wrong style of dress. Try a mermaid or trumpet style. And try dresses on that don’t have pickups or ruffles along the bottom half.

just realized I missed the “Good” part I! In the Good dresses I like the Alfred Angelo on you with the lace and black ribbon. :) Those are some good dresses on you in the “Good”!

I really like the third one on you too, but agree with Mouse and mimi–breathing should be priority one. Can’t wait to see what you choose!

I had to chime in. The third one really looks great.

I read the “good” post earlier and loved all of them on you. Can’t wait to see the one you chose.

Haha, great expresssions!
Also, I love the font you used.. I used “the ugly” font for our save-the-dates! :D

My bad and ugly were the Judd Waddell (sp?) dresses. LOVED them in the magazine, but they looked SO MATRONLY AND TERRIBLE on me. SO BAD. All-caps can’t even begin to splain it. Also, no pics were allowed in the salon (thank God), so I have no proof.

And pickups make me SO nervous.

P.S. Everything still looks great on you, my dear. (Even if the dresses are ‘eeehhh’).

I think #3 looks absolutely gorgeous on you, I’m shocked that you didn’t love it!

Umm, I understand emotions and stuff, but those dresses all look great on you! If I were to make a post about all the bad and ugly, it would actually be as such, lol =)

I am joining the bandwagon as well, and complimenting the heck out of how you look in dress 3! It looks similiar to one of my fave dresses, the ‘Barbie’ Monique Lhullier:

Oh, and I have a serious serious aversion to pick-ups, so I can’t blame you there!

Some of these - esp the first - look really flattering on you. Except for the total look of disgust. I don’t blame you, though. A lot of these are gorgeous dresses, but just not the look that I (or you, as I take it) would want. It’s no fun wearing a gorgeous dress if it’s not the type of gorgeous you want - the formal or princessy looks are great for some people but would be weird and out of place at other weddings.

I have a HUGE dislike of pickups, too, but I really love crazy skirts. There’s a fine line, really. Anything strapless is a no-go for me, so that either seriously narrows the pool of things I can wear or I can add straps.

I think the third dress was by far the better one of the lot. Couldn’t they just adjust the dress if you wanted to buy it?

I actually thought the 3rd dress was beautiful. I am not a “princessy” person, but I really liked that look.
