Flowers in Her Hair…

January 25th, 2010 @ 6:02 pm by Mrs. Buttons

Let’s talk about hairpieces! In the course of my dress shopping process, I did try on a veil or two, but was left feeling a little “blah” about them. They are classic, but are they “me”? I wasn’t so sure. I knew that even if I did wear a veil, it would only be for the ceremony, so I reasoned that it would probably be a better use of my hair stylist’s efforts to wear a beautiful flower instead! I would be terrified to make the switch post-ceremony without destroying my hair!

So, I began my Etsy search for the perfect hair flower. And I’ll be honest…  I’m not done quite yet. I came across this flower first from Y&E Bridal, and I quickly purchased it:

Flowers in Her Hair... : wedding accessories Il Full039

When it arrived, I tore into the package with reckless abandon (OK, scratch that… I was actually very careful because of how delicate it is… but you get the point)! I took a few crude pictures with it shoved into a ponytail…

Flowers in Her Hair... : wedding accessories Pa0806502 I really do love the flower; the lace matches the color of my dress PERFECTLY, so I know it would be a great complement. However, part of me also longs for something that makes a little more of a statement than this flower, since I plan on wearing very very little jewelry and a simple hairstyle; maybe something a little bigger, perhaps? This flower does lay rather flat. Thankfully, I have it on hand just in case I can’t find something I like better in the coming months!

So, what do you think, hive? Should I go big or go home? What kind of hairpiece did you/are you wearing?

I think it’s perfect!! I love that it’s a bit more unique with the lacey details.

I think it is beautiful. But as someone who also feels blah about veils, I am doing hair flowers or headpiece. I think the bigger the better, but I am one of those attention hogs. So do what makes you feel a million bucks. Maybe you could get another one and pin it in just under that one. It would look beautiful doubled.

It’s very pretty! You might want to consider contacting the seller on etsy and see if they can vamp it up a little to be exactly what you envision… they’d totally do whatever you ask them to! After I fell in love with a $300 headband at a bridal store (satin ribbon for $300, yeah right!) I put up a bid for a custom headband on etsy and it’s currently in the process of being made. It looks similar to the original one I tried on with my dress, but it’s a little more unique and I was able to have some of my colors integrated into my custom-made brooch. I get new pics daily from the girl who’s making it! I can give you her info. if you’re interested. Etsy is amazing!

I think it’s super sweet! But, if you don’t think it’s what you really want, keep looking. That way if you don’t find anything else you like, you’ll know you bought the right one.

ooh, that’s pretty! and it’s got features that take it away from just plain jane flower. however, if you are really hankering for something more, then go for it! couldn’t hurt, right? you’ll look fabulous either way.

I think its beautiful and looks good as it is. I tend to think that bigger ones (a la carrie bradshaw) are the ones that we are going to cringe at in 10-15 years time. Even on Sex and the City shes UBER fashion and just weeks after the wedding everyone else (who are also high fashion people) were saying “what was in your hair?”

@Miss Spaniel: True true…not a bad point ;)

@mdarrah: Haha…true true. I think I just want something that is a bit more…poofy? This one sits a little flat on my head.

very very pretty!!! however i like the more garish ones… and yes my mother asked wth is that in your hair when she saw the pictures (lmao)!! what if you added a sparkly piece in the center? i think perhaps that would bring a bit of sparkle?

I have to get my dress crazy taken in so I am hoping that with the extra lace I can DIY myself a cute little hair clip for dancing and windy moments! although I am madly in love with the gorgeous little enamel flowers and will probably end up buying one for myself too… you know just in case i’m not crafty enough!

@crebre80: Garish hair flowers? I feel as though I can’t picture this. Haha! No sparkle for me though…I’m not a sparkly kind of girl :)

@Miss Topsiders: Oooh you are so lucky to have extra fabric….I’d kill for some extra lace!

Miss Buttons that is a very pretty hairpeice. I love the simplicity of the lace. But if your vision is of something more of a statement piece try adding some feathers, or add a veil. Add some details to personalize it. I personally think its very pretty as it is.

Check out this link on etsy: (it has some vintage inspired headpieces).

Yes, I say go big or go home, ala Mrs. Perfume and her “big arse” hair flower!

It did look a wee bit small for a statement piece. I’m with Mouse—hopefully you can find something bigger!

check out Lo Boheme on etsy…her stuff is to die for! I just ordered a feathered hair clip from her. They’re a little pricey, but worth it! and everything is made to order so she can make whatever you want!
