Mrs. Sewing's Picture
Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HI Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer Engagement Date: June 27, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
About Mrs. Sewing

More Mon Madness

January 25th, 2010 @ 9:04 am by Mrs. Sewing

Weddings involve a lot of paper. And for all that paper, I think it’s nice to have a good theme running throughout. Some popular and beautiful choices include damask, flowers, trees/leaves, and pretty swirls and loopies.

Although I haven’t exactly nailed down what kind of design we’ll have, in Mr. Sewing’s ever-constant quest to avoid over-feminizing, I’m sure it’ll involve lots of black lines. Maybe like our Corelle tableware…

Ahh simplicity, how I love thee..

I also thought of continuing the tie-in to Mr. Sewing’s mon. The crest will already be everywhere, courtesy of our favors. And since we’re already celebrating his heritage that way, why not celebrate mine, too?

More Mon Madness : wedding stationery File001 Disregarding the doodley scrawlings on the bottom, I came up with three more mons, two of which are completely made up! Can you tell which ones? Two for Mr. Sewing, two for me, and the double happiness bonding us in the middle.

From left to right, Mr. Sewing gets the Hibiscus, state flower of Hawaii, since that’s where he’s from. He also gets his family mon, obviously. Next comes the double happiness character.

I get the poppies, state flower of California, since that’s where I’m from. I also get the peony, state flower of Indiana, since that’s where my paternal roots lie.

We’ll have to convert these into proper line-art, of course, before I go smacking them around on everything. They’ll probably make appearances on programs and other papery goodness. Mr. Sewing thought it would be fun to put the mon most appropriate for each guest on their place card. So all of Mr. Sew’s family would get the Mr. Sewing family mon, all the Californians would get poppies, etc. Maybe, but I’m worried that there won’t be an even balance!

What’s your papery theme? How does it represent you and your FI?

Why worry about even balance? They’re lovely and a good tribute to your backgrounds as well as that of your guests. The trick of the matter will be individuals who are neither from Hawaii, nor from California, nor related to your and your fiance.

Might not be evenly distributed, but such a cute idea that I don’t think it matters. :)

haha you guys are too funny :)

@jtg: that’s a good point! Maybe I’d have to give them the double happiness symbol or something instead?
