Oh, Dresses

January 25th, 2010 @ 9:59 am by Mrs. Ribbons

Before I start the magical series of dress posts, I must say, I have my dress.

Yes, indeed. It’s currently living in my closet until it goes to live with the seamstress. So while I may write longingly about a particular dream dress, I have mine and there’s a very happy ending. So do not fear!

Anyhow, I had started saving images of dresses before I was engaged. I was that person.

I wanted tulle. A hot tulle mess. It’s romantic, ethereal, and girly and such a flipping throw back, I had to have it.

However, tulle is not very “in” these days. Mermaid and trumpet gowns are about all you can find at most bridal stores. And if they have a tulle skirt, it’s covered in rhinestones and beads, straight out of a Bedazzler sweatshop. I wanted simple.

Oh, silly silly me.

Did you have a certain expectation for your wedding dress that made things a teensy difficult?

Love the Tulle!

I had similar difficulties when dress shopping because I wanted *gasp* straps !!! Who would have thought that finding a non-strapless dress would be so hard!

But i did it and I was really happy with my choice!

Congrats on knowing what you want and rockin’ it out!

I wanted absolutely zero embellishment on my dress — no rhinestones, pearls, embroidery, doodads, or whatchamacallits at all. It’s hard, because I had a picture in my head of what I wanted, and then I’d walk into a bridal shop and they’d have exactly the opposite (bling for days and days). Can’t wait to see what you picked!

Nothing wrong with tulle! MY problem was wanting to find something light and airy but I liked all the satin dresses better. All the beachy dresses were so shapeless so I ended up with taffeta. Who knew?

I just wanted to say, who cares what is in?? I think the dress is TOTALLY gorgeous and timeless. When I got married in August, I was worried about the gown trends, but its not like this is a prom dress… this is your WEDDING dress! Do what you want! :-D

I totally know what you mean. I too wanted tulle and plain and only found bedazzled tulle pouffs.

I tried on that dress at Vera Wang! It was actually way more flattering than I though it would be. I pranced around from mirror to mirror and they must have thought I was insane, especially since I was there on my lunch break sans ANYONE! but of course I ended up with a mermaid/trumpet dress :)

Yep…I wanted LOTS of pickups. Which was difficult bc Im 5′1, and I got lost in all the dresses. But I ended up with a tulle dress too :) And it is actually pretty simple!

As soon as I saw the pic of the tulle dress, it made me think of Kate Hudson, in Vera Wang, in Bride Wars. Beautiful dress! Not too many “affordable” designers are doing tulle though, just as you said. Or if they do have it, it’s bedazzled. I went in with the mindset of simple, elegant, but a little detail. And my dress is very much that!

@Miss French Fries: So true.
@fabulouslyengaged: Ha, it’s not that I was too concerned with what was in style, but more that the stores only carried what’s in!
@moderndaisy: Mermaids are a great shape, I just had other plans :)
@MissClementine: Resistance to bling is futile!

ooh! I hope you found your hot tulle mess! I think looking back, I would have gone with tulle if I hadn’t gone with lace :)

Is that a Vera Wang?
It’s GORGEOUS!
I also want tulle! I’m just worried it’ll look silly on me since I’m 5′0… a petite bride!
I can’t wait to see what you end up with.
