Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Letters a la Poodle

January 26th, 2010 @ 9:19 am by Mrs. Poodle

I am in love with wood letters. I love the fact that they are so cute and simple!

They look amazing! So, the next project at the Poodles’ house was: Letters!

Letters a la Poodle : wedding decor diy 21 letras0

I printed out the letters I wanted, but I printed them 10 times smaller than the size the actual letters would turn out to be… because I like them BIG!

We have being saving every single box we could. For a while, Mr. Poodle was using my boxes to start fires at oru house. I didn’t realize this until I asked him where all my boxes were, as they were disappearing! He told me that I should have told him that I was saving them!

After that little incident we have being saving EVERY BOX!! Milk boxes, pot boxes, microwave boxes, you name it, we used it!

I decided to start with the most complicated part, the “&” symbol. It is pretty difficult because it does not have a lot of straight lines, even though it’s pretty big (100cm, or more than 3 feet tall).

Well, after I was done with that one, we started the big letters!!! I’m really lucky because for this one, my MIL helped me out a lot! She cut, glued and measured with me.

Come on B, say, “cheese” for the WB girls!

Letters a la Poodle : wedding decor diy 5 letras4

So, after a couple of hours of hard work, we got THIS!

Letters a la Poodle : wedding decor diy 6 letras5

Here you can see the real size of the letters. I am planning on making a “J” the same size as the “K” (150cm, or over 5 feet tall) and if after finishing that I still have the energy, I’ll make the rest of the letters to complete our names, only slightly smaller (in the size of the “&”).

Letters a la Poodle : wedding decor diy 7 letras6

Here’s the rest of the plan!

Letters a la Poodle : wedding decor diy 8 letras7

Right now the only thing that is keeping me from finishing the rest of the letters is that we ran out of boxes, so until we save some more we won’t be able to finish up.

The plan for the finished letters is to wrap them in paper tape, then give them a thin layer of texture (my FIL is working on testing out options that would work out best). After that, we might paint them

I know that using new materials might have been way easier, because we worked so hard taping all these old boxes together. But I feel all warm inside knowing that we used boxes that were meant for the trash for this project!

Are you finding ways to use recycled materials in your wedding decor?

These are awesome and it’s great that you were able to recycle! Since I’m currently trying to figure this out for myself, how in the world are you getting them to your venue?!

Go to a grocery store or McDonalds and ask them if they have any boxes to give you. Sometimes people on Craigslist offer free boxes if they have just moved. Can’t wait to see the finished product!!!!!!

These are amazing!! How are you going to transport them? I would love to do something similar so I’m just curious if you are using a truck or van etc. to cart them to the reception site.
