I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

Ruby Slippers, Please

January 26th, 2010 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Now before we jump right into the shoe-fest, let’s talk about the needs. You see, I’m about two inches taller than dear Mr. Sewing, so I am not allowed to wear heels when we’re together. Flats, it is!

And then, after loving the way the little red shoes looked on our save the date magnet, I decided I needed red shoes. Yes, needed.

The Merona pair on the top left (#1) are the ones I’ll probably get. They are only $20 at Target! Unfortunately, the red ones weren’t at my local stores, so I’ll have to try ordering them.

I’m thinking they’ll look pretty nice with a good shoe clip on the front.

I can probably make my own, though the above Etsy examples are so neat, as well! I’d have to search for shoe clip findings, which could be more hassle than it’s worth. What do you think - buy, make, or antique shop?

What kind of shoes will you wear - flat, heel or super-heel? Will you use clips for decoration, or find a shoe that stands on its own?

you are so talented that i think you could totally make your own, but if you wanted to leave this one to something else (because you have so much on your plate already), there are so many great options on etsy. i say etsy. there.

I am rocking the heels. Mr. Library is about five inches taller than me, so heels are great. Plus they make me feel fancier. I am doing flats for the reception.

ooh how pretty. I want some heels for the ceremony and some nice flats for the reception. I also thought about using shoe clips which I had never heard of till weddingbee. I’ve seen alot of nice ones on etsy but am toying with the idea of getting creative n doing my own. in the end well see. but really love the red shoes. so cute.

You can definitely make your own shoe clip, you’ve got major talent. And I love the red shoes! I can understand that you need them. :) I’m wearing heels to make my tiny self a little taller.

almost 4″ heels for me! FI is 11 (yes, 11) inches taller than me, so I’ll take any additional height I can get!

I’m about 2″ taller than Mr. FF, too! You’re in good company, Sewing. ;) I’m wearing flat sandals, but your shoes/shoe clips will turn out great!

LOVE red shoes! I own the Merona ones in green and they pinch your feet. If you are planning on getting them I would wear them a lot so you can break them in, otherwise they might be painful after awhile. Just my experience.

Antique shopping! Or buy new. You’re making so much yourself already, I’d worry about running out of time/energy.

@Miss French Fries: Yay! Taller-girl club!
@Sarah: Thanks for the heads up! I’ll keep that in mind! @Miss Spaniel: That’s a definite possibility, lol.

FH and I are the same height and I’m still rocking me some heels! Only 2.5″ ones though. And with FH in shoes the height difference is barely noticeable.

If I were you, I’d make them, since you’re so talented! If I were me, and I am, I’d totally buy them, b/c I’m not so talented.

Ruby Slippers? Yes please! I’ve always wanted red wedding shoes…and I think with your crafty eye you could score some amazing vintage broaches etc…at a flea market and be in business with shoe clips!

i like the first pair of clips, with the feathers.

i’ll be doing a modest heel and then switching to flats. though i’m kicking myself now for not buying a pair of nike ballet flats that would have been perfect - now i can’t find them!
