Shoes Are Pretty

January 26th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

My first fitting is coming up and I was warned to bring all of my accoutrements, i.e. undergarments, veil, headpiece, SHOES.

I don’t have all that other stuff either, but I’m mostly freaked about shoes — which is strange considering my closet.

I know there’s this color trend out there and it’s really pretty and cool, but I don’t think it will work for me. I understand the motivation because nice shoes are expensive, especially bridal shoes, so why not spend mucho bucks on shoes you can wear again?

It’s not as if I don’t love a bright shoe, I do, it’s just that with my dress I don’t think it jives.

So I started browsing the usual suspects for shoes: Nordstrom, Zappos, and Macy’s. I found some great ones on Zappos, but HO MAH GAWD, they were expensive. The most I’ve ever spent on a pair of shoes was $150. They were rabbit lined knee-high boots with a smart little buckle, on sale in Chicago. I’ve worn them every winter for SIX YEARS. Can you see how spending even $174 for a pair of clearance ivory Kate Spades that are magical to look at makes me woozy? They may be lovely, but wear them for six seasons, I think not.

Unless. Unless I choose a color that’s a bit more buttoned down!

How are you rationalizing your wedding shoes?

I was lucky and came in at about $100 for my (two) pairs of wedding shoes. One is a wedge sandal that I will totally wear all the time (after the wedding). The other is my recent purchase - lovely purple closed toe wedges with a flower on the toe that I’ve been eyeing for MONTHS. I figure I can wear those again too (and they were too cute to turn down).

I didn’t have to rationalize my wedding shoes–I got them for $40. :)

I’m not rationalizing at all. My shoes are $225 off-white satin badgley mischkas with huge rhinestones on the front, they basically scream “I’m a bride wearing effing fabulous shoes”. But I don’t feel the need to justify. I love shoes and you only get married once, so whatever. I’m perfectly happy just looking at their gorgeousness for the rest of my life, so I don’t mind if I can’t wear them again. Maybe if I get desperate to wear them again (I mean, they are pretty amazing) I’ll see about having them dyed a fun color, but more than likely I’ll just leave them as is and gaze at them in my closet :)

Make sure you pick something that is going to be comfortable!!!! I got very pretty Stuart Weitzman’s to wear on my big day… but not I am thinking about finding a cute ballet flat to have on hand for the reception—just in case my feet are exhausted! Get what makes you comfortable, on your feet… AND your pocket book! Everyone will think you are Cinderella on your day anyhow— and no one will know how much you spent on your shoes, regardless if they are 10 dollars or 500 dollars! They just will see a well-heeled and glowing bride! Good luck on your search! HUGS

I haven’t started looking yet…. but I know I won’t be spending more than $100, hopefully much less!! I’ll probably get some colorful shoes so I can wear them again!

I just ordered my shoes today and they were $70 and I had issues with that since I will never wear them again. I will probably sell them here or ebay so another bride can get a deal.

I had a very specific vision of what I wanted my shoes to look like, and I pored over many many websites without success, until I found a beautiful pair of Stuart Weitzmans. Totally a splurge, yes, but they’re a classic style and I can dye them black after the wedding and wear them for years!

Hi, my name is Kaymaroo and I’m a shoe-aholic. And I quite literally gasped when I saw the picture of those pink shoes. Buy them. Buy them now. If we’re playing pretend I’ll take two in every color, especially yellow (do they come in yellow?). In real life, I think I have to start saving my pennies, or get a second job. But I NEED.THOSE.SHOES.

I’m wearing Stuart Weitzman also. They are beautiful and special but they won’t break the bank. Most of my shoes cost between $100 and $200 so it’s like a mini upgrade. I thought long and hard about Louboutions but I just. couldn’t. doit.

IN LOVE with those pink shoes! I’m totally rocking the hot pink peep toes with my ivory dress (my mom and grandma are like, WTF? those don’t match! and I say, that’s the point!) I’m not spending over $100 on my shoes b/c I know I can find some fab ones for much less than that!

I actually had always planned using my wedding as my excuse to buy a really expensive pair of designer shoes - I mean, I have a serious shoe obsession but my wallet can’t keep up with my tastes, so here was my chance.

But as much as I love shoes, I knew being on my feet all day and then dancing the night away would be tough on my tootsies so I read a tip in a magazine suggesting ballroom dance shoes. There weren’t too many options and none were drop-dead gorgeous, but they were mega comfortable. I used a pair of my grandmother’s old clip on earrings as shoe clips to dress them up and as my something old.

As sad as I am that I don’t look in my closet finally at a pair of Manolos or Louboutins, there were 2 pictures the whole day of my shoes and I’m really happy with my comfort vs. style decision.

Considering the most I’ve spent on a pair of shoes was $120, my $400 wedding shoes were a huge splurge, but I love them and now realize the difference between Payless and a pair of Italian designer heels!

I Love the pink or any bright color like that but I’m going to have to do white b/c my dress is pretty traditional. Where did you find clearance Kate Spades? :)

I am superfrugal, and bought two wedding pairs for less than $30, so I can’t say anything but I HEART Kate Spade shoes. Go for it, girl!
