We're planning a Korean/Serbian wedding with plenty of playful, personal touches!
About Mrs. Parfait

Sunny, Beachy, Pretty

January 26th, 2010 @ 5:57 pm by Mrs. Parfait

The perfect words to describe our honeymoon. Post-wedding, we will be in Hawaii for 12 sunny, beachy, pretty days! My future in-laws, who also honeymooned in Hawaii, did a great job of convincing us to go. Here was their reasoning:

  1. “It’s the perfect excuse to go! And you may never have another excuse.”
  2. “Don’t you want to relax after all the wedding excitement?”
  3. “We wanted to stay there. To live forever. We’re serious.”

As if I needed convincing—any vacation with water, sun, and sand works for me!

Sunny, Beachy, Pretty : wedding honeymoon 1 1

Mr. Parfait and I decided to spend half of our time in Maui and half in Oahu, to get a taste of more than one island. I chose a low-key, cost-effective resort for our days in Maui and left Oahu up to Mr. P.

Before you think I am the most self-controlled honeymoon-planner ever, please know that this was a strategic move in my “Yes to Turtle Bay!” campaign.

I first heard of Turtle Bay Resort in the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which made it stand out from the other, unfamiliar resorts in all the Hawaii books and catalogs. The more I read about it, the more my budgetary defenses melted away, and the more I slipped the words “turtle” and “bay” into daily conversations (subliminal messages may not have worked for Zack Morris, but I figured it was worth a shot!).

When decision time came, I knew my campaign had worked. Mr. Parfait chose the perfect place to bask in our newlywed bliss:

A snippet from their website:

Set on 880 oceanfront acres on the legendary North Shore, Turtle Bay Resort is the only true full-service luxury resort on the breathtaking island of Oahu. Its natural, unspoiled beauty can be found at every turn. Find yourself surrounded by the history, culture and majesty of the island. Five miles of pristine beaches and 12 miles of ocean trails await you.

As for the living space? We’re spending the last days of our vacation in a breezy, beautiful beachfront cottage:

So there you have it—the piece of Earth I’ll be dreaming about for the next three months. I can’t wait to share about our adventures in relaxing when (if?) we come back! :)

How did you decide where to go for your honeymoon? Did you or your SO have to campaign for your dream location?

Yay for Turtle Bay! Looks great. I don’ t know if you’re set on where you are staying in Maui, but we’re staying at the Kapalua villas for our h-moon. In my opinion, it’s the sweetest deal in all of Hawaii. http://www.kapalua.com. I stayed there several years ago and loved it. I’ve been dying to come back. I PROMISE you will love it. Since we’re staying at least 4 or 5 nights they offered us 20% off the nightly room rate.

I’m getting married a mile from there! I think we’ll be staying in the cottages too. Be sure to check out Ted’s Bakery (about a mile towards Haleiwa town). They make the best pies (chocolate haupia is my fave) and mahi sandwiches.

It looks gorgeous and I totally fell in love with it in Forgetting Sarah Marshall! Our honeymoon was easy, stay where we’re getting married after all our guests leave.

I live in Hawaii-Turtle Bay is an excellent secluded resort. My only caution is that while seclusion is a good thing…it does take some extra logistical planning if you plan to do anything other than lounge on the beach. I would imagine you will rent a car since the cost of a taxi would be incredibly expensive, and you would be forced to eat at the resort every meal since there aren’t really any restaurants nearby. But if you are willing to get over those slight obstacles…you will definitely get a more relaxed, romantic honeymoon than the busy, however convenient, Waikiki could ever provide. Enjoy one another! You’ll love HI.

My fam lives on Oahu and I totally agree with Desi- Turtle Bay is way more awesome/secluded/romantic than Waikiki! You’ll have a blast!
