What’s Your Flavor…

January 26th, 2010 @ 11:21 am by Mrs. Pencils

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Flavor2 Flavor2

They say scent is strongly tied to memory and one small whiff of a familiar aroma can take a person “back”. I hadn’t realized how this could relate to weddings until I was a bridesmaid in (my bridesmaid) PF’s wedding this past July.

PF bought Vera Wang’s Bouquet fragrance to wear on her wedding day so that her soon-to-be-husband would attach the fragrance to their wedding and when she wore it again afterward, they would both be reminded of their wedding day and it would be super mushy cute.

Sweet.

I love this idea, partly because of its romanticism/idealism, but also because it means I get to do some new perfume shopping which is always fun!

I did some internet research and found some possibilities. Unless otherwise noted, photos and descriptions come from Perfumemania.

I am considering some obscure ones I had never heard of like this:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Sirene sirene

SIRENE, created by Vicky Tiel, contains orange, rose, peony and is accented with ylang-ylang, musk and vanilla making Siren perfect for romantic use.

Or I can rock a name and choose this:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Lusciou lusciou

LUSCIOUS PINK by Mariah Carey possesses a blend of bergamot, Ocean Breeze accord, sparkling Bellini accord, Tahitian Tiare, lily of the valley, pink peony, bright blond woods, creamy sandalwood and white musk.

I love my current Burberry perfume, so this could be an option:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Burberr burberr

BURBERRY TENDER TOUCH an intensely floral, feminine blend of green tangerine and violet leaves, rose oil, lychee, peach, and lush florals warmed with the soothing scent of musk, iris, sandalwood, and ambrette seed.

This sounds nice with rose and blackberry smells, but patchouli can be overly strong sometimes:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Bulgari bulgari

BULGARI ROSE ESSENTIELLE possesses a blend of rose, blackberry, violet leaves, living mimosa, jasmine sambac, patchouli, and guaiacwood.

Or I could go with the classic scent of Vera:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Veraori veraori

VERA WANG perfume has captured desire in a modern, floral bouquet. The first encounter with the fragrance is a flirtation that begins with Bulgarian rose, calla lily, and mandarin flower. Vera Wang perfume is enveloped with gardenia, lotus, iris, and white stephanotis. The fragrance is wrapped in a final embrace of sheer musks, white woods, and precious floral nectar.

Or be a little more “hip” and “fun” with this one:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Vera01 vera01

VERA WANG ROCK PRINCESS possesses a blend of white peach, raspberry, bergamot, heliotrope, rose, night-blooming jasmine, lily, cashmere woods, musk, iris and creamy coconut.

Mr. Pencils loves the perfume I wore when we met in college. It was Ibera Hippie by Escada and is no longer made, so perhaps I should go with another Escada:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Escada escada

ESCADA perfume is an oriental smooth blend of fresh fruits, orange blossom, jasmine, sandalwood, carnation, musk, and vanilla.

For a twist on a classic, I can go with this Calvin Klein:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Eternit eternit

ETERNITY MOMENT was inspired by the excitement and exhilaration of falling in love and possesses a blend of Lychee, Guava, Pomegranate, Chinese Pink Peony, Passion Flower, Nymphea, Musks, Rose Wood, and Raspberry Cashmere.

And then, I could actually be classic and go with a perfume I have not been daring enough to ever buy:

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Chanel chanel

source

CHANEL NO. 5. includes notes of ylang ylang, neroli, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, veviter, and vanilla.

In summation, I have no idea how I want to smell on my wedding day. “Nice” doesn’t seem to cut it, so I guess I need to research what “ylang ylang” “bergamot” and “verviter” are, as well as discover the difference between simply “peony” and “Chinese pink peony”.

Are you going to find a “signature fragrance” for your wedding day? Do you know what “bergamot” smells like?

My favorite scent ever is paul smith by paul smith for women - it’s delish! of course, now when I wear it, both my fiance and I are transported back to college so I probably won’t wear that for the wedding - but you may like it!

i wore ralph lauren romance all the way through high school and college. it’s beautiful and feminine, but after finishing up school i wanted something a little more “womanly.” i recently got marc jacobs lola and i looove it. it’s so different than what i wore before, but it really is fantastic. much recommended.

Love this post! I went with Marc Jacobs Daisy…my blog/decision process was a long one, too, lol =)

In addition to all those lovely scents, one of my criteria was finding a winner WITH a cute/pretty/lovely bottle for photographs. All of yours match that, as well!!

Mmm… I love the Burberry Touch! I think you should pick something that you know your FI will love (like the Escada). Or else the one that you feel embodies how you want to feel on the day- I feel like scents can be “happy” or “fun” or “sexy” or “pretty”.
I would go to Sephora or a department store and just start smelling things, or see if you can get a couple of samples to take home to try.

I was wearing “Juicy Couture” when I met Mr. FF, and I wore it again for our first date. It was a small sample size vial, so I ran out quickly thereafter. It still reminds me of our first days together when I smell it! :)

I’m debating between my two “signature” scents. One is lovely and floral (and I’ve worn it for ages) the other is slight deeper/muskier and is a little more “sexy”. Hmm, decisions decisions!

Hahah every time I hear or see ylang ylang, I think of “Will and Grace” when Jack tried on a perfume with it in it and kept asking people if “you like you like?” I love this idea and now I want to go perfume shopping!

Have you thought of looking at l’Occitane? Their lavender perfume reminds me of my wedding day :)

I might get another bottle of a fragrance I haven’t worn in years. He wouldn’t be familiar with it because I ran out before him- but I love it.

Bergamot is citrusy. I only know that because I looked it up a few years ago!

My absolute favorite fragrance is Kenzo Amour.
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P165123&categoryId=C15181
I love it because it’s more spicy than fruity, so it feels really chic and sophisticated rather than little-girly.
When I looked up the link, I noticed that it has a 5-star rating on sephora.com and that’s with 175 reviews! Wowza!
I really think the best way to shop for perfume is to try one and see if you like the way it smells several hours later, after it’s meshed with your own natural pheromones.
Also, your SO has to like the way it smells, too. But that goes without saying…

I have a perfume picked out, with the intention of wearing it only on special occasions. I love the concept!

I found Eternity Moment a few years ago when I was looking for a jasmine-type scent. I love this stuff! I don’t get to wear it that often because people at work have allergies, but I wear it on special occasions. It is a WONDERFUL scent and would be great for a May wedding (like yours and like mine!).

My favorite perfume ever is Chance by Chanel. I haven’t worn it in a while because I ran out and and I’m too cheap to buy myself another bottle, but I’m hoping to buy more in time for the wedding. I love the idea of him remembering the wedding every time I wear it!!!

I LOVE Happy, by Clinique. The name kind of describes the scent for me - it’s fresh, light, and lovely, and it makes me happy. Pretty sure I’ll be wearing that. :)

Yep - I’ll be wearing Miss Dior Cherie L’eau. I read about the idea in a magazine, and coincidentally, there was a sample laying around that I really liked.

Whatever you choice, make sure you clear it with your fiance before hand, too. One of my favorite scents (that my ex-boyfriend loved!) was Demeter’s Ginger Ale perfume (it smells light, sweet, gingery, and bubbly). But to my fiance, it smells TOO much like ginger ale, which reminds him of being sick, so I don’t wear it anymore!

Bergamot is a citrus fruit that is used in tea (it’s where Earl Grey gets its distinct flavor from) and perfumes. I think it would be a good idea to find a place that has a great return policy, buy a bunch of perfumes online, try ‘em, and return the ones you don’t like!

I have Chanel No 5 and it doesn’t do much for me. My fav ever is Chanel Chance though, been through a bottle or 2 and it was the first perfume Fi got me. Every time I wear it he comments how good I smell, so I will be wearing that one. I figure, Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke ;)

I wore Bath and Body Works Sheer Freesia. My husband loved it when I wore it when we were dating. So I decided to wear it that day. Everytime I wear it he always notices it. I also wear some other Bath & Bodyworks stuff but he always notices that one.

I’m a fan of more woodsy, oriental scents. I love She by Emporio Armani and wore it on our wedding day. Hubby always compliments me when I wear it. I also wear Kenzo Amour, which I noticed someone else above mentioned.

But, I also love me some Ralph Lauren Romance. Mrs. Pomegranate’s hubby to be gifted her a custom engraved bottle…that would be a cool keepsake. http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/01/08/sacramento-winery/

Or, what about a customized Clinique Happy bottle? http://www.clinique.com/custom_bottle/index.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY4884&PRODUCT_ID=PROD12303
