Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor Engagement Date: May 2, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Indiana Memorial Union About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

Let’s talk about our save the date fonts.

I chose Leitura Display, a professional font set. For $50 I got three full fonts (including glyphs) and it makes all the difference in the world. Free fonts are awesome for novelty usage, like signs or labels, but become less than optimal while designing a full suite. For instance, a free font I tried had no apostrophe. That’s trouble.

So I bought Leitura knowing I’d have some options - a solid serif and a cool novelty set.

I’m sticking with my one font family for consistency, but you can successfully mix two fonts without making your print products look like a jumbled mess. I’m always in favor of a sans serif and serif pairing and indeed my favorite one ever is Century Gothic and Garamond.

They’re both extremely well-designed fonts standard on most computers. I can’t count the number of times I’ve used them in a pinch!

What are your go-to fonts for wedding projects?

I love Garamond as well! We ended up using “Beautiful” for our script.

We’ve been using either a combination of Castellar and Porcelain or Outlaw and Porcelain, depending on the project. I aboslutely love those fonts, and I’m so glad I found them (and all for free!)

garamond is a very nice font. it’s amazing how much time it can take to find a good font. i used vera humana 95 for a lot of our text. oh, and day roman.

A large portion of wedding inspiration for our day was from the Little Golden Books, so we used the font “little days” which was very similar - a loopy script. To “go” with it, we paired Modern 27 (I believe the name is?) because it was similar to the text in the books.

Ok. I’m a huge nerd. I LOVE century gothic. When my high school thesis advisor told me I couldn’t use it, I got into an argument over it. My teachers knew my papers by the font. If you like fonts, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3k5oY9AHHM

I love fonts! But, I’m too cheap to buy them…so I usually find the free ones!

We’re Monterey BT for our script, paired with champagne & limosines for our type. Not sure if that’s a good pair design-wise, but I like it so that’s what matters =) Got both for free on dafont.com. Never cared about fonts until designing our invitations!

Monterey. I love it because it’s script but not too scripty and it seems fresh and crisp.

I so love fonts like crazy. We used Champagne & Limousines and an art deco-y font, which I am drawing a blank on the name of. We used Champ & Limousines on the Save the Dates and our regular invites. The “accent” fonts were different to sort of set them apart, but still keep them consistent.

Ok, I’m a font newbie, but I would really like to be consistent in my fonts for the wedding. We already sent out save the dates and they match our website, but have a very casual feel. Our wedding invitations are more formal. I would like to think of a creative way to merge the 2 looks together with the other wedding elements (not sure what elements those are yet!!).

But, my big question is - how do I know what fonts I’ve chosen?? The font on my save the date is from wedding paper divas ITC American Typewriter, but our wedding invitations are William Arthur and their fonts are numbered and I don’t know how to determine what it is.

Once I figure it out - what are the different elements at the wedding where you use fonts that helps tie the look together? I was thinking for OOT bag labels, labels on things at the Rehearsal dinner, but not sure where else. The placecards will be the same font as I’m getting them from William Arthur, but I am making the seating cards myself, so I really need to find out what the William Arthur fonts are…

Ok, now I’m rambling, but any help would be great!

Leitura looks really fun! I have no idea what fonts we’re using—I’m not big on fonts, but I love seeing unique ones on other people’s stationery. : )
