Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Not Quite Shredded… Yet

January 27th, 2010 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

OMG, Jillian Michaels, or JM as I like to call her, you are kicking my butt!

So I went through quite a few different exercise programs- P90X, Yoga, Pilates and now the 30 Day Shred. While each is good for different reasons, my favorite is the Shred. I feel like I’m working really hard, but I don’t have to commit too much time. Also, in addition to JM making me work hard, my dog also steps in to act as my own personal trainer:

Not Quite Shredded… Yet : wedding fitness 18 1

However, as much as I think this is a great workout, I’m developing a little bit of a love/hate relationship with the Shred.

Wow, I’m done after just 20 minutes of a work out (love it). Oh crap it’s only 20 minutes which means that I don’t have an excuse for why I can’t do it (hate it). My ass is so sore, I’m walking like I’m 80 (hate it). But wait… are those more defined muscles on my arms??? (love it).

Then, after about a week of doing level 1, I’m not hyperventilating when I do jumping jacks and I think I might be ready for level 2 (love it). Oh wait, level 2 wins. I suck at this (hate it). I’m dripping sweat and my legs feel like Jell-O, but this must mean I’m getting skinnier, right (love it)?

I really just want to come home from work and have a glass of wine, but JM’s picture on the box is staring at me and making me feel guilty (hate it). I think I might be ready for level 3 (love it!).

So, the verdict? The Shred is the way to go. I HIGHLY recommend it.

What’s your favorite workout?

I really like this workout! I haven’t been able to do it everyday because of my knees, but it has been awesome. And I don’t hate her that much. ;)

I’m doing the Shred (third attempt… hoping this time I make it out of level 1/past day 10!) and I enjoy it, too. And hate it :) I turn the volume down so I can play my own music (I don’t need to hear Jillian telling me “the neck is not invited to this party”…. uh, wha??) and that helps, but I still swear at her from time-to-time.

Good job, FroYo! I’m yet to try The Shred, but I’ve recently started running again so I totally feel your pain (literally).

Why didn’t you like the P90X? I’m thinking about trying that.

@Headuh: Oh me too, she gets an earful.
@Mrs. Cupcake: HAHA! The neck comment! That was great! I need to try the mute button.
@Miss Pug: Oh yeah, my dogs often try to battle each other since I’m doing something physical, they think they should be too, but this one always comes to check in on me.
@fabulouslyengaged: Oh, I didn’t dislike it, it’s an EXCELLENT work out, but it was super intense and I had to devote more time to it. So basically, I’m too lazy for P-90X. I hated writing that, but it’s the truth.
@future.mrs.v: Oh, I yell at her. Bring it on JM! I’m ready! Ok, maybe not quite ready yet.

Couldn’t have said it better! It really, really works.

I was distraught when 6 wks before my wedding I learned I had tendonitis in my foot and couldn’t run. I thought I would be the out of shape bride. Then I started the shred….I lost 7 lbs in the month before my wedding. I got a lot of “buff bride” comments.

Then I decided not to work out after my wedding ; ( I started the shred again a week ago since we are going on vacation….totally feel you on the walking like an 80 year old bit!

Since I lack the pre-wedding motivation this time around, Jillian is way more annoying.

Ok ladies, I just caved. I just ordered it on Amazon! I will report back, when I too (I am sure), am swearing at JM.

My dog does the same thing. She sometimes even lays down at the end of my mat, which really doesn’t help to motivate during the Shred.

My sister just finished P90X, and it sounded ridic - SO INTENSE. I don’t think I could stick with it.

I do enjoy The Shred :)

Are you in my brain? Because I swear I’ve had that EXACT same internal conversation. Especially the part about walking like an 80 year old. After the 2nd day I literally could not walk down steps. It’s definitely gotten easier after a few days of doing it, but I KNOW I’m not ready for Level 2 yet.

Oh, and my cats get so nervous when I do the work out, especially any of the ab stuff. So funny!

Okay, you’ve officially convinced me - I’m totally getting this. I’ve been going back and forth about it for a while now, but I need to just give in and get it. I didn’t know it was only 20 minutes - I’ll totally do that!

Pretty sure I lasted about three days with the Shred when I tried it, and then I sent it right back to Netflix! I’ll have to give it another try :) My cats like to try to eat my mat or jump into my lap whenever I exercise in front of the tv…

The Shred is great! I like Buff Brides better, but it’s a bigger time commitment.

I love JM! I actually prefer No More Trouble Zones over the Shred. I feel like it is a better overall body workout and really focuses on the parts that I want to look good in my dress! :p
