Before we get to the big grand finale moment of the ceremony, let’s chat a bit about kidlets. Whether or not you have children as a part of your ceremony, or guests at your wedding, is a totally personal decision. However, I am a huge advocate for having kids present! Just remember, if they are present, they will get bored during the ceremony. It is just a fact of life that children will get bored during readings and vows and speeches and kisses, even if you do them quickly! Our ceremony clocked in at just under 19 minutes, and yet our photographers still got these awesome shots during the ceremony:
Bored.
My advice? Give the kids something to do. Cameras are great for distracting kids, and they looooove taking pictures. Since it isn’t very practical to give each kid a digital camera (and trust me on this one, people under the age of eight or so DO NOT understand disposable cameras. They want to be able to instantly see the photo on the back screen, and get a little confused when there is nothing there), you can only hope that mom and dad will be nice enough to hand their kid a camera to keep them busy, and they can get some fun memories in the process. Oh, and iPhones work great, too (they’re adult AND child friendly!).
Not bored!
Also not bored!
So we are nearing minute 18, our vows have been read, our readings are finished, helicopter is long gone, and the time had come:
(blah blah blah… power vested… something something… state of California… blah blah…)
“I now pronounce you husband and wife; you may now kiss the bride”
Ah, such magical words. Just like it happens in the movies!
We actually had two kisses, and just like that… poof, we were officially married. Married married married. It was hard to believe at the time that after all of the planning, and scheming, and meeting, that the whole ceremony was over!
In fact, it was so hard to believe that, even when the recessional music started up… you know what to do here:
… I turned to our officiant and asked, “That’s it? Do we walk back now? Is it over?!” She laughed at me and nodded. Gina Sprinkle handed over my bouquet, and we walked back down the aisle, into the bridal suite, to savor our first minutes as wife and husband.
This is my all time favorite picture from our wedding. I know I posted it months ago, but I couldn’t help but share it again.
A bonus:
Lil’ Sprinkle and Lil’ Sprinklette looking a bit shy and relieved that it’s all over!
We’re going back… (to the future!?):
