About Mrs. Sewing

Miss Manners

January 30th, 2010 @ 5:35 pm by Mrs. Sewing

I never really thought the marriage process would change me much as a person. Mr. Sewing and I have been together nearly six years now; what’s one day going to change?

A lot.

There’s a ton of changes that come with being engaged. There’s a whole new vocabulary to learn, a new internet niche to explore, and expectations and relatives I never even knew existed.

One positive change, however, is the introduction of manners. Etiquette, prompt thank you cards - once a nuisance to my spare time, are now something I kind of enjoy.

Take these for example:

Miss Manners : wedding stationery Tycard

Way-Cute Hallmark thank you cards! I bought them to send out to the lovely, generous friends and family who have helped me out with planning bits and pieces so far. And sadly, had the wedding-gurus out there not pounded in the importance of plentiful thank yous, this is something I might not have done.

Thank you wedding-gurus, whoever you may be!

But on that note, what would the perfect thank you cards look like? Would they match the invitations? A cute picture of the two of us on our wedding day? Another comic? A pre-made card?

I’m sure there are plenty of options out there. Chalk this one up under the “needs more research” category. But even if I haven’t had that “a-ha!” moment on this detail yet, it’s still fun to think about!

Has being engaged made you appreciate etiquette more? How do you plan on thanking your guests?

I’ve definitely learned more about etiquette since starting our planning. Some of the rules we are following, others I don’t think matter all that much so we’re winging it and doing it our way.

I think being engaged has made me SUUUUUPER sensitive to etiquette issues! I feel like I’m always worried about offending someone or doing something the “wrong” way…Who knew there were even so many etiquette rules surrounding weddings?

I have always loved Thank You notes (I think it’s mostly because of that whole “Do unto others as you would have done to you mentality). I sent them for any reason, and I love having yet another reason to send them :o)

We have a ton of Kate Spade thank you notes that we use. I think that we’ll probably do monogrammed ones post-wedding, but for now these Kate Spade ones are so freaking adorable.

Pre-wedding-planning I didn’t give two hoots.

We made them with pictures from the wedding day, as inspired by Mrs Daffodil. They were very well received!

I bought those same Hallmark thank you cards (with the blue swirls!) to send out after my bridal shower. They were a great deal at Wal-Mart. I loved them!

I went to four weddings in 2009 and they all sent thankyou cards with a picture of them from their day on the front cover.
I’m not sure though after seeing the swiry card if I want to do that though for ours!

My mom drilled the thank you card routine into me as a child (thanks mom!) although I did abandon it for a while there in college etc… I LOVE a thank you card though and really appreciate when I get an unexpected one, so I’m super happy that wedding planning has put this back in the “important things” section of my brain!

We got thank you notes with a picture of us from the wedding from Shutterfly. But although I know what you mean, the perfect thank you note is really just very thankful. I don’t think people will notice what they match.

Those are very very very cute!!! I think I’ve bee-come (all pun intended) an etiquette type person until I was told my by sister that she should be my MOH because she was my sister, it was tradition and etiquette. I was like ummm NO. lol but of course I don’t have an MOH i told her if she wanted to be it she could to save the drama lol
