I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. I ain’t kiddin’ around with the title of this post.
I confess, I am on the “challenged” side of all things DIY. I occasionally manage to successfully complete a project but it usually takes me at least 3 or more tries to get it right. You folks usually only get to see the finished product; rarely do I show the sweat, tears and curses usually involved when I craft.
But fear no more, tears begone, for I have found a delightfully easy DIY wedding craft that anyone can do, I swear. I had a whole bunch of beautiful, decorative paper left over from my table numbers and since the sizes, shapes, colors and patterns varied so much, options for use were limited. Ever-frugal me wanted to put the paper to good use so I poked around the blogosphere to see what paper projects were out there.
I attempted a pinwheel or two a la Miss Buttons but that was a disaster. Not only was my paper not the right size or weight but I just don’t have the crafting gene like she does. After that fail, I literally googled “paper flower tutorial” and this was the second result that popped up.
So, without further ado, I present Miss Trail Mix’s Ridiculously Easy Paper Flower Tutorial… Read more…

I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!

There are hundreds of opinions and thousands of women who have weighed in on the discussion of a person changing their name when they get married. My voice is simply one among these, but I feel compelled to share my reasons to change my name to my fiance’s when we get married. Perhaps I should be psycho-analyzing myself for why I feel compelled… but I do. Anyway.
A few weeks ago, I asked Mr. Pencils if he thought it was strange that I was going to change my name to his. His answer? “No…I mean, well, kinda. You mean, because you’re such a feminist?”

I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Well, we’ve gone over what the groomsmen might like to wear; what about the bridesmaids? There will be only one: Sewing-Sis. My ten year old sister decided right away that there was no way she’d be wearing a poofy-froofy tutu dress. And while I love a good froofy dress, I can’t imagine her in one, anyway. Actually, my first thought was to put her in a cute red pencil skirt and matching jacket. Like a mini business woman! But after massive amounts of Googling, I have yet to find a business suit for 10 year olds, much less in a red color.
So together with Sewing-Mom, we had her look through some websites for dresses that were “sexy” enough for her grown-up tastes.

We’ve poured ourselves into planning a wedding that reflects our personal style - modern and high contrast with a vintage twist. Blogging keeps me creative, baking keeps me happy, and grande nonfat no foam sugar free vanilla lattes keep me sane.
Hi everyone… umm, remember me? I know, I know, it has been far too long since I’ve shown my face around here. I’ve been seriously dragging my feet finishing up ye olde recaps. But, in case your memory has completely been wiped of my existence - I’ll give you the down and dirty highlights.
OK, so now that you’re caught up and can kind of remember my bee existence, let’s dive back into the recaps!
Figuring out what DJ to hire was something that, quite honestly, I just didn’t want to deal with. I had no clue how to choose a DJ or what to look for.
And then, we thought about our friends’ wedding in St. Louis about a year before ours. Everyone danced. The DJ did his thing, wasn’t cheesy, played great music. We heard through our friends that he was also interested in breaking into the Chicago market. That sealed the deal. Read more…

I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
“Really Pretzel? There is more to your engagement photos?”
Yep, we were quite the ambitious couple and nothing says “Seattle” like the Space Needle, right? After exploring Pike Place Market and Post Alley with our awesome photog, we gathered up our gear and headed to Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle. Never wanting to be without props, we also brought along some balloons.

I keep lists for fun, am constantly daydreaming of my next international travel adventure (four continents down, three to go), debating sports (let’s Got Mets/Giants!) and dancing around my apartment to stay sane. I am excited to share our wedding planning journey as I hope to plan a streamlined, personal, and fun wedding with the greatest life partner I could ever imagine, Mr. Swan.
… And continue to rock the mic! That’s a hip hop reference. Anyone? Anyone? I haven’t hit you with one of those in a while.
It was time to make the grand entrance into our ceremony. I felt a little bad that we let our guests wait a little in the bright morning sun. We had orange hand fans for them to beat the sun with.

I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
There are a few things that I enjoy more than curling up with a good book. I have always loved reading, and have fond memories of hiding under the covers with a flashlight and the newest BSC novel. My taste in books has evolved over the years, but the bookworm in me remains constant.
Since I want our wedding to be reflective of our personalities and tastes, I have been looking for ways to incorporate my love of reading into our wedding. I thought about using books in our centerpieces, a la Mrs. Lovebug, or perhaps giving them a nod on our invitations like Mrs. Avocado. Non of these options seemed quite right though, until I saw this tutorial for a beautiful wreath made out of the pages of old books. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with one, or how it would turn out, but I just knew that I had to make one. Read more…

I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka
Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
I spent a few Saturdays ago in the mall shopping for work, which generally involves long lines, slow walkers, heavy bags, and being glared at by pedestrian shoppers as I negotiate the Macy’s elevator with a rolling rack. Yeah, my job is super glamorous! Anyway, on this particular day there was a silver lining to my personal working-on-a-Saturday rain cloud, and of course it was wedding related! I was totally inspired by all the super awesome menswear-inspired women’s wear out in the world! Yup. I’m talking about ladies in suits.
First off you should know that I absolutely love menswear! I love it all—chic tailoring, grey flannel, skinny suits, the perfect sweater, vintage western wear, and the list goes on. You know what I love even more? A woman in perfectly tailored menswear.

On Friday, a bunch of eager bees and readers met up at Local West in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan for drinks and wedding talk!
Although it was packed when we first arrived, a few of us still managed to get a table. Luckily, MissAsscher brought name tags and Sharpies, making it much easier to find the meet up for those arriving later on in the evening. The crowd cleared out as the start of the Knicks game approached (the bar was directly across the street from Madison Square Garden) and we were able to take over an entire corner of the bar after some time.
I seriously had such a blast getting a chance to put faces to names that I know well online but have never met in real life. You girls all rock!

And then there was one. No need to cue the dramatic music, or get out the tissues—for me, the choice of my wedding dress was a very simple, exciting, but not an overly emotional, decision. I mean, I loved it, but I didn’t need a fainting couch, ya know?
It came down to three simple things: Did I like how I looked and felt? Yes. Could I envision myself in this dress on our wedding day? Yep. Did Mr. Pencils and my parents all like it? Yeppers.
Sold.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I can’t help but make this face when I’m in it:

Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
Before I start the magical series of dress posts, I must say, I have my dress.
Yes, indeed. It’s currently living in my closet until it goes to live with the seamstress. So while I may write longingly about a particular dream dress, I have mine and there’s a very happy ending. So do not fear!
Anyhow, I had started saving images of dresses before I was engaged. I was that person.

Weddings involve a lot of paper. And for all that paper, I think it’s nice to have a good theme running throughout. Some popular and beautiful choices include damask, flowers, trees/leaves, and pretty swirls and loopies.
Although I haven’t exactly nailed down what kind of design we’ll have, in Mr. Sewing’s ever-constant quest to avoid over-feminizing, I’m sure it’ll involve lots of black lines. Maybe like our Corelle tableware…
I also thought of continuing the tie-in to Mr. Sewing’s mon. The crest will already be everywhere, courtesy of our favors. And since we’re already celebrating his heritage that way, why not celebrate mine, too? Read more…
