After a few more lovely words from our officiant, the Dude and I did something called the “expression of intent.” It was separate from our vows, and though it might have seemed repetitive, I thought it was a lovely sentiment. We declared to the world (well, to the room, at least) that we were ready to do this thing!
Spike: The Dude, will you take Miss Mouse to be your lawfully wedded wife and travel the rest of life’s road with her? Will you love her, laugh with her, comfort her, honor and protect her, and forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?
The Dude: I will.
Spike: Miss Mouse, will you take the Dude to be your lawfully wedded husband and travel the rest of life’s road with him? Will you love him, laugh with him, comfort him, honor and protect him, and forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?
Miss Mouse: I will.
This was a special moment, where we got to really look at each other and soak everything in.

A few months ago we blogged about how My Video My Voice adds video to your wedding album, with an incredibly thin display screen. And now they’ve got a great giveaway for Weddingbee readers! They’re giving away their deluxe Wedding album, which includes the ability for you to upload 45 minutes of your wedding video memories to the album. This album is valued at $190!

To check out how this technology works, check out My Video My Voice’s website, and simply comment below to enter the contest! You have until midnight PST tomorrow, Friday, January 22 to enter. Good luck!

I have been thinking about writing this post for a while, but have held off in fear of being tarred and feathered by an angry bridal mob. As I type, I fear that I may get an email from Pengy any minute demanding that I surrender my bee privileges. I can only hope that the hive will accept my shame, and not be too harsh with judgment.
So, with bated breath, I give you my shameful confession:

I love The Chicken Dance. I always have. In fact, Mr. Pudding loves it too. When we hear the sound of that happy song, we just can’t wait to get out onto the dance floor and start “wiggling our butts”.
As a destination bride-to-be, I’ve tried to learn all I can about St. Thomas so I won’t get off the plane and wonder what the heck I’m supposed to do for the next 2 weeks. Granted, we booked an all-inclusive trip, but I still want to explore! I’ve bookmarked so many things on my computer and check a few of them almost daily.
First up, the St. Thomas Source…

I love seeing the weather in the top right-hand corner every morning as I’m sipping my coffee under a blanket trying not to think about the snow I have to scrape off my car.

Lesson Learned #392: Some DIY attempts will not work out the way you want. Stop the madness and move on.
I had this vision in my head for a menu chalkboard and a small chalkboard for our fauxto booth. The menu board was elegant and would lend an air of vintage French bistro. (I just made that up. I just thought it’d look cool.) The mini chalkboard for the fauxto booth would ensure that hilarity ensued and we’d have all sorts of clever sayings documented for the ages. In my head, it looked like exhibit A and B as seen below:

Well, Mr. Sewing and I spent a whole evening wasted on this amazingly addictive site! I’d recommend every couple make at least one date night for exploring fonts, it’s quite fun. Just try not to start any wars over the pros and cons of serifs. It’s not pretty.
Anyway, our task was to come up with two things -
For challenge one, there are many options - 1 Corinthians, Ecclesiastes, etc. We chose 1 John 4:9-12. Not only is it an awesome and to the point, but it also happens to be the subject of our latest Church Bible Study, which focuses on the book of 1 John. Here it is (NIV version):
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
The outside of the bag will simply have the mon on it, in either red or white ink.

At this point, I should probably introduce some people that will be in a whole lotta pictures going forward. I present to you, La Familia Swan.
From left to right: SIL Swan, BIL Swan (Mr. Swan’s brother), Mommy Swan, I think you know what we look like now; MIL Swan and FIL Swan. There is a Daddy Swan, but he didn’t make it. That’s another post.
After our little mini-photo shoot, we finally made it to Battery Gardens to meet up with the family, take some portraits, and take a breather before the ceremony started. We decided to take care of a little bit of important business: getting all the proper signatures for the marriage license. I figured we should make sure that we are actually married after all that planning, ya know?

I’ve been bustin’ out the wedding decisions left and right lately. We got the groomsmen’s ties, ordered the bridesmaids’ jewelry and now… our Ketubah. And it’s so damn pretty.
Also, it is funny how all these decisions are basically glorified shopping. I guess I subconsciously decided that now that it’s the “year of our wedding”, it’s time to spend some greenbacks.
Anyways, back to our Ketubah. I actually discovered the artist through a reader here on the ’bee, 2dbride. She had posted a picture in the boards of her Ketubah, which led me to the artist’s website. The artist’s name is Amy Fagin of 20th Century Illuminations and you can see all of her work here.
I loved that she offered a selection of smaller, or mini Ketubahs, since the vast majority of the ones I had found elsewhere were all huge (24″x17″ seems to be the standard, which when you add the several inches of matting plus the frame, is huge!) I really wanted something smaller, and ours is 12″ x 17,” which will look lovely matted in a simple wood frame.
I spent about 2 months scouring online all possible options before coming back to the very first place I had looked. Ain’t that always the way, huh? I guess I really should take the phrase “when you know, you know” a little more seriously and save myself a lot of time and effort.

Back in September, Mr Pretzel and I met with our photographer for the most amazing (and long) engagement photo session. I shared some sneak peeks with the hive back in November. Truth be told, I’ve had the photos for months but I’ve been sitting on them. I know, bad bad Pretzel. I guess the problem is a good one to have, but I have been struggling with narrowing down the hundreds of images to the ones I wanted to share. We took photos for close to 5 hours (OMG) at four distinct locations. So I decided to share them in a series, giving each location a little love of its own. E-photo procrastination is officially over!

First up is the Old Shell Station in Issaquah, WA. I was so excited to start our day here. We arranged for a dear friend of mine to bring his classic Oldsmobile to the location and had plenty of props to play with (car, gas pumps, old truck, etc). This fun location really helped us break the ice and get comfortable.
We also stopped traffic. The car at the old gas station plus our vintage garb was too much for passersby who interrupted the photo taking from time to time to ask about the car or us. OK, enough talkie talk, on with the photos!

This is a hard post for me to write, and I hope that no one close to me finds it offensive. I’ve thought about it for a long time before I started to blog about it, but I think it’s time. See, someone very close to me, let’s call her Ms. X, is going through a divorce right now. Divorce is never easy, and I imagine that it’s especially difficult when you have to be all sunshine and rainbows for someone else who is about to get married. I can’t help but feel guilty, though I know Ms. X doesn’t want me to feel that way at all.

So… I had my dress inspiration. Next up, the shopping began!
The first shop we visited was Olga’s in Tampa. My mom and I were on our way to the mall, and we stopped in just to take a look. I tried on 3-4 dresses in that shop; and my favorite, hands down, was:
It had a sweetheart neckline, lace, and it was form fitting. My mom loved it. And, with a price tag in the $800s, it was in my budget. But, it was the first place we’d stepped foot into; we felt like we needed to see more dresses before any decision was made! I wish I had a photo of myself in it; alas, one does not exist!

I was never huge into guestbooks. As a guest, I always made a point to sign them, but the old school traditional ones are so similar to the guestbooks at a funeral viewing, that they kind of creep me out.
(source)
Now that we’ve entered the age of fun and creative guestbooks, I started to get a little more excited about them. But which kind would be best for us? A photobooth guestbook? Hmm, that would require photos and a booth (or at least a camera) as well as a book. An engagement album guestbook? I think you all know I freaking love our engagement pictures, and we did have this option, but I passed because I like our album just the way it is, sans 300 signatures and messages. A wish tree or jar? I love this idea, I really do. This one almost won me over.
What’s my problem, you ask?

After our nervous first dance shuffle, I headed on over to Papa Lightning to ask him for an impromptu father-daughter dance. I had already selected Frank Sinatra’s The way you look tonight and I think he gushed a little at the unexpected gesture (lets just say he’s not familiar with all the wedding traditions). While Papa Lightning also stepped on my feet and dress, it was one of my favorite moments of the evening.

As you may know by now, I don’t like to follow tutorials—they save time and lead to correct results the first time, which certainly won’t do for me! So rather than follow Mrs. Hibiscus’ or Mrs. Spring Roll’s tutorials (neither of which I thought to look at until after I finished my map/started writing this post—although my process was pretty similar to Spring Roll’s except for the fact that hers looks better than mine), I determined that my minimal design skills would carry me through this DIY. I was right!
First, I went to Google Maps and searched for driving directions from the hotel I blocked rooms in to our venue (the two locations I wanted to mark on the map), then messed with the zoom and positioning until I could see the major freeways that almost any of our guests would need to take. Then I took a screen shot and pasted it into a new image in Photoshop.
