Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
I’ve known since the very beginning what I want in a veil. I knew what I wanted for a veil before I even had any CLUE about what I was doing for a dress!
For my ultimate veil-inspiration, keep reading after the jump! If you are my lovely and handsome fiancé, you can’t keep reading after the jump. This’ll have to be a surprise.
Mrs. Rainbow, TampaAge and Occupation: 22, Makeup ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/ProgrammerEngagement Date: November 27, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Gamble PlantationAbout Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
Yesterday, I was in the midst of a meltdown. It was just one of those days where everything was going wrong, and considering I’m almost positive that I suffer from anxiety, when those days happen, it’s really hard to calm down and snap back to reality. Generally it results in lots of tears and borderline hyperventilation. I’m not sure if that qualifies as a panic attack, but it sure as hell feels like one. Dandy, I know.
Anyway, when Mr. Rainbow got home from work yesterday, he could tell that something was wrong. As I was rattling off the laundry list of things that had gone wrong that day, I told him that I wanted to elope. Did I mean it? No, but it was my melodramatic way of saying, “the wedding isn’t on the path that I want it to be on.” Let me elaborate.
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
Just like so many people, our most important vendor search was the one for our photographer. Yeppers, we wanted classic, amazing, simple, evocative photos. Easy as pie, right? I, quite literally, typed “Frederick photographers” into Google until I had some names and portfolios I liked… then I want over to theknot.com and weddingwire.com and tried to look them up and find out their general price range. Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/VermontAge and Occupation: 26, High School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer EngineerEngagement Date: August 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall ReceptionAbout Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
It seems like once the six-months-til-the-wedding date passes, everyone starts to get real serious about planning. I (the bride) have been serious about planning for over a year now, but everyone else (including the groom) have shrugged me off until this point. Now everyone is freaking out, and I am the only calm one - since half of what they are freaking out about I’ve already planned for.
Anyway, I have recently been receiving quite a few requests to speak (or give a toast) at the wedding. Our dads will both be speaking to welcome guests (and the new addition to the family), Sister Pudding/MOH will speak, as will BIL/BM. It is customary at Polish weddings for the godmothers and godfathers to speak, and although I am unsure if they will, I will certainly give them the option. I have recently decided that I would like Mama Pudding to say something as well (even though she says that she will be too emotional), and of course, Mr. P will do the customary groom’s toast.
That’s a lot of talking, but I don’t care. I figure that every single person that is invited is either family or a close friend, and will want to hear nice (and embarrassing) things said about us.
But there will also be one very, very special, very nontraditional speaker at our wedding… Read more…

In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!

Ms. Stripes, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 29, Costume Designer/StylistFiancee's Age and Occupation: 29, ChefEngagement Date: June 23, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heritage Square MuseumAbout Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka
Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
So when we left off, I was raving about Fay Cullen and promising to let you in on how I found the perfect engagement ring. But first let’s clear something up—Fay Cullen is not my aunt, cousin, or in any way paying me to write this. She just happens to own a company that was a pleasure to do business with. No one batted an eyelash that I was buying a ring for my girlfriend and there was no awkwardness whatsoever. Score!
And score I did. Wanna see it? Okay, okay hold your horses. First off, a little bit about what I was looking for. I knew that the ring had to be beautiful, not too girly, not too giant, and pretty tough (for all that chef action, ya know). This led me to want diamonds and sapphires (blue is Stripe F’s favorite color) set in platinum. I wanted it to have detail but not be some flowery, scrolly monstrosity. And I wanted it to be super unique and seem like something Fiancee Stripes would wear. Considering she doesn’t really wear jewelry this last bit was something of a stretch, but I figured that just like Supreme Court Justice Brennan, I’d know it if I saw it! And yup folks—I just incorporated a reference to obscenity/pornography in my post about fancy engagement jewelry. Better get used to it—it’s just the way these Stripes roll!
And know it I did. I saw it, I loved it, and I kept looking. Waaa? Then I kept coming back to it because it had pretty much all the qualities I was looking for and it was just so elegant to boot.
So, without further rambling (I know, I know), I present the most perfect engagement ring for the most perfect fiancee! Yay! Read more…

I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!

I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
Ahhhh, dress shopping. As little girls, we dream about the day that we can enter a bridal salon and try on beautiful dresses for our wedding day. It is supposed to be an amazing experience… and sheesh… we place such high expectations on it, don’t we?
So… I wanted to delve into the story behind my dress buying experience… because… well, it wasn’t the magical one I had imagined it to be. Let me explain…
For those of you who don’t know me or can’t tell from pictures, I am a small human being. I’m about 5’2”/5’3”. I’m “fun size”. I have a hard time shopping at a lot of stores because of my weight and height. So, when it came to dress shopping, I had a lot of things to keep in mind. I went into my dress search with a pretty distinct vision. I’d like to think that I know how to dress myself properly, and that when it came to shopping for dresses, I’d be no different.
I knew for certain that I had to stray away from dresses with “poof”, as they would completely swallow me alive. They aren’t my style, anyway. Besides, I am confident about my body, so I did want to find a gown that showed off my figure!
Mrs. Hamster, New York CityAge and Occupation: 28, Finance GalFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance GuyEngagement Date: March 9, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Pierre HotelAbout Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
This article, detailing the boyfriend/best friend dynamic, got me thinking about my relationship with the Mister. Are we best friends? Semi-good friends? Some dude I happen to think is cute? After some short deliberation, I quickly knew my answer.
Mr. Hamster is not my best friend. And I am not his.
Don’t get me wrong - we complement each other very well as girlfriend/boyfriend, fiancee/fiance, future wife/husband, etc. But are we best friends? No. Read more…
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, INAge and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firmFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
So I had this problem. Pink was supposed to be the dominant color everywhere, even on the bridesmaids. This was proving to be a difficult concept. My mom was the biggest detractor.
At first I thought she was all about my pink-gasm of a wedding. This was not the case. It started innocently enough: she’d merely repeated what bridal store consultants told her. “The bridesmaids should wear a contrasting color.” “Olive would look better with an ivory dress.” “Your daughter is a moron.” Etc. Then, she grew the ovarian fortitude to say for herself she didn’t lurve the idea of light pink on bridesmaids, that they’ll look like crap, and so on. I got defensive, I got angry, maybe even a little… monster-like, I don’t know.
As an aside, you know how when you get pushed into a corner to like something and so you automatically blurt out you hate it? Yeah I said I hated green. A few times. I mean, I do intensely dislike the pink/green combination. It’s too preppy for my tastes.

Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
So, I decided to tackle the flip-flop bedazzling, and let me tell you, what I thought would be my easiest DIY project to date ended up being the most time-consuming and annoying! I encountered a lot of trial and error along the way, but ultimately figured it out. So here was my bedazzling journey…
I bought some supplies at Jo-Ann Fabrics: 6 bags of flat-bottomed rhinestones in 3 different sizes, and a glue gun. And here’s everything I thought I would need…
flip-flops, a cup of water and a Q-Tip/toothpick, rhinestones, glue gun (also grab some tweezers)
