I’ve hit a certain point in planning where the dreaming/imagining phase is over, and I need to make some concrete decisions. Not about the big stuff, like venue, dress and whatnot, but about the myriad of details–programs (what paper, content, where should we put it, what should hold them, how many should I make), favors (what favor, how to present it, where to put it), table numbers (design, buying the paper, what will hold them up), etc.
It’s like a bucket of ice in the face. Now I have to make *real* decisions that have *actual* consequences, and there are a lot of them. Like being an adult, dammit. I fully realize that I’m bringing this upon myself, by feeling that each decision needs to contribute to make our wedding “interesting” and “personal” and “memorable” and “better than winning the lotto jackpot”.
Por ejemplo, table numbers. Why oh WHY can’t I just be okay printing out some numbers in Times New Roman, 100 point font, Scotch-taping that sucker to the floral centerpiece and calling it a day?
Well, I’m going to blame the rest of you and the brides that have preceded me. I’m kidding! Well, I mean it in a good way—I feel that brides share so many great ideas about details for their wedding that it’s just nearly impossible to resist incorporating some of that inspiration.
How far does one have to go in order to find really cool table number ideas? Not very far, turns out.

So remember when I was whining about my boobs and how I felt self-conscious all the time? Yeah, well I can’t say that’s totally changed, but there has been a major improvement. I finally decided that at the young age of 28 I should get professionally fitted for a bra for the first time in my life. Before I went I was terrified to go, hence the reason that it took me 28 years to do it (OK, so I didn’t need a bra when I was 5, but you get the idea). I had this vision in my head of me standing there topless with a random lady and a tape measurer. Yeah, well that didn’t happen.
I went to the Nordstrom lingerie department and did several walk throughs, trying to build up the courage to ask someone to measure me. As I cruised up and down the aisles and aisles of bras, a sweet girl asked me if I needed help. Although instinctually I wanted to say no, I decided to actually say yes. She took me back to the dressing room and proceeded to measure my band size with my clothes on. Phew! Huge sigh of relief. She asked me what size band I’d been wearing and I said “36″. She told me that I was a very small 34. Oops. Strike one. Then she told me that to measure the cup size, they would ask me to try on several bras and then check the fit. Great, I didn’t have to stand there topless with some measuring tape!! So she went and pulled a few bras based on my guesstimate of my size and we got to work.

… it’s so delicious and moist!*
Unfortunately for Chell, the cake was most certainly a lie. I’ll bet that if she had a big, delicious cake waiting for her at the end of her, um, adventures, her tumultuous journey may have been worth it. Especially if that cake was made by Liz at Creme de la Cake in Fresno!
Remember waaay back in October when I blogged about my cake inspiration? I was so excited to have found Creme de la Cake, which is truly a diamond in the rough in this area, but I had to wait for Mr. Doxie to get in the country before we had our consultation. Well, true to form, I put it off for three months. Not because I wasn’t looking forward to nomming on some delish cake, but because, well, I’m a procrastinator.
Last week I shot the owner, Liz, an email to make an appointment, and in her response she informed me that there was only room for one more cake on our wedding day! This is why it’s bad to procrastinate, kids. We just happened to get lucky; I would have been seriously bummed if she couldn’t make our cake.
Anyway, armed with a stack of inspiration photos, and one of my favorite Christmas gifts:

Let’s talk petals. Remember when I told you how I’d won flowers at the wedding expo? Needless to say, I was excited to meet with the florist and get a conversation started. Mommy Buttons and I made an appointment at the shop, and I immediately did what I promised myself I would avoid: I let the vendor take me for a bit of a ride.
On one hand, the vendors are professionals, and yes… you want to take their advice (hey, they do this for a living, trust them!). However, letting them steer you in a direction you didn’t really have in mind? Nooooot so cool!
I don’t know much about flowers, but I had a vague idea of what I was looking for. I brought in a picture of a bouquet that I loved:

Kismet and her new husband show off their Chucks at their Key West reception.

Keep on loading your inspirational wedding pics to the gallery to see them featured here on the blog! Remember, your images must be under 1MB in size, or they won’t load.
So far we’ve looked at custom Chucks, and vested Groomsmen. Our two Ushers are characters and deserve fitting attire. Usher B and C work with Mr Pretzel and me. Of all the wedding party, they showed the most interest in their attire—even more than the bridesmaids!
One morning I stopped by their desks (Mr P was not present) and they both informed me that they both wanted to wear pink. They had heard from Mr P that one of our colors was pink. They were prepared to thumb wrestle for the color.

Last week, we (finally) booked our officiant, so of course I’ve had wedding vows on the brain.
I’m on the more traditional wedding vow team for a few reasons:
So you saw our invitation suite here, and had nothing but wonderful things to say - we thank you much! At times, the process was difficult (lots of emails back and forth), but the end result was well worth it!
Now for some additional behind the scenes pics! First up, our rehearsal dinner invitations. They were included in the main invites of our grandparents, our bridal party, and our other ceremony participants.
They are very simple and understated, and I love them! Burger’s mom designed them on Wedding Paper Divas, and I think they are perfect.
What’s that huge green dot, you say? Ah, the drama of meat. Yes, meat.

I. love. stationery. It’s an addiction, and a somewhat costly one at that. I love the feel of a new package of beautiful notecards… I love girly paper and holiday paper and “just because” paper. I love Papyrus and Crane and Kate Spade. Le sigh.
I even have a little nook in my desk just for my stationery:

(I’m also pretty obsessed with underwear, but I don’t think you want to see photos of THAT…)
A girl can’t love paper without fun pens and pencils too, right? These are some at my desk at home:
After the very moving Circle of Love, we made our way back up onstage and continued on to what would be considered the “marriage address”, in traditional ceremony terms.

What it really was for us was a short section written mostly by Momma Star and my Stepdad about what marriage meant to them, and it included a reading from Madeleine L’Engle that I really wanted to incorporate.

Our newest bee is planning a fashion filled Midwestern fete! Please join me in welcoming our newest bee, Miss Ribbons, to the hive!

Miss Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN
Age & Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I’m an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I’m obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I’m a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It’s all about Bloomington for us because it’s where we met — on the college paper. If there’s a theme for our small summertime wedding, it’s Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
I seriously can’t image how we could have planned our wedding without the ’bee. So, it was less than a month before the wedding and we didn’t have a first dance song picked out, let alone have a game plan for the dance. It was Weddingbee to the rescue! Mrs. Canary posted about an emergency dance lesson she had just had, and I contacted Erin of Start Dancing right away! She was such a sweetheart on the phone and quickly scheduled to meet us at my parents’ house the same week.
