Our Engagement Album Rocks.

January 9th, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

A few weeks after we finished our engagement shoot our photographer, we started discussing our options for purchasing prints and albums. Jessica offers competitive pricing on gorgeous albums and large prints, and we decided to indulge in both. :)

We selected about 50 pictures (yes, 50! Our wedding album is going to take us years to get down to a reasonable number, I’m sure) to go into our 10 x 8 coffee table album, and gave Jess free reign with layout and image order.

The results are truly amazing. You’ll have to forgive my awful photography of her beautiful work. But I had to try to show you how wonderful our book is!

Pop Quiz

January 8th, 2010 @ 5:56 pm by Mrs. Pug

After I eliminated guest entertainment options that would involve me crafting something, I thought about wedding games. Generally, when I hear “games”, I kind of groan and think of those painful getting-to-know-you games that they would make you play the first day of camp in middle school that were actually not games but just devices to torture me (I was shy). And for a wedding, why would adults play games? Sounds silly, right?

However, in reading about games you can play at weddings, in general it seems like they are well-received and guests appreciate them. They can often be funny, and if they’re low-pressure I don’t think they will give people the hives that I got on my first day of summer camp. (Unless playing spin-the-bottle on the first day of camp would have been the norm—I could have been all over that.)

I’m seriously considering the shoe game, played by Mrs. Eggplant and Mrs. Tomato.

A Little Bit of “Hair”spiration

January 8th, 2010 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Buttons

Right after Mr. Buttons proposed, I wanted to be stubborn and keep my hair the way that I like it. Why should I have to change because of one singular day in my life?

However, the reality is that I have very very fine hair. And it is stick straight. It does not hold a curl without about 10 pounds of hairspray involved. Yummm, who likes crunchy hairstyles???

My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". Potato Head… So Hot Right Now

January 8th, 2010 @ 5:07 pm by Ms Potato Chips

Originally I wanted Mr. Potato Head’s wedding day ensemble to be a surprise. But when we found ourselves bored on a snowy Sunday, one of the last days he’d have off between now and… June, we decided to shut up and SUIT UP.

We went to Dad-approved suit shop Syms and found that they’re going out of business in 3 weeks. Sad for them, but great deals for us! We walked into the store and I was immediately out of my element. I don’t know a thing about suits, or suit shopping, or how to suit up properly, etc.

Ahead of us, dozens of crisp jackets and trousers lined up like little pinstriped soldiers. Florescent lights shone like yellowed diamonds from the ceiling. The showroom was vast; one could get lost in the brambles of suit arms and tie racks.

“Do you need… a… haberdasher?” I ventured to Mr. PH, in a “I don’t know nothin’ bout birthin’ no babies” kind of manner.

If you remember, this is the look we liked:

I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! Where to Wed

January 8th, 2010 @ 4:44 pm by Mrs. Pencils

Initially, a tough choice Mr. Pencils and I had to make was where to have our wedding. I never imagined choosing the actual location could prove so difficult, emotional, overwrought and frustrating. At the time, I found myself wishing that we were from the same hometown or had the foresight to plan a destination wedding. See, we had to decide between three different places: Idaho, North Carolina or Maryland.

The dilemma is somewhat complicated. I was born and raised in Southeastern Idaho. Idaho is that state that is above Utah and in between Montana and Oregon/Washington. We border Canada… ringing a bell yet? I love my home state, mostly for its natural beauty, the simplicity of life there, and I was drawn to the idea of a lower cost, outdoor, gorgeous, natural wedding. I mean, look at how beautiful my home state is:

He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

I admit that I cared a lot about certain details, but others, not so much. Our wedding cake was one of the details that I didn’t care much about. Our venue, The Venetian, includes a wedding cake in the cost of everything so we were happy with that. We really didn’t have a budget to get anything nicer, and I didn’t mind too much, although I admit that I’ve drooled more than once over pictures of colorful fondant cakes with silk ribbons. Besides, I was surprising Mr. Martini with a groom’s cake of a snowboard boot, which I was hoping would more than make up for it.

Learning From My Mistakes

January 8th, 2010 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Nachos

This post has taken some courage for me to write because I have a past that I haven’t talked about with all of you just yet…

I am an encore bride. I wanted to write this in the hopes that some of you can maybe learn from my mistakes. And it’s funny, I just started reading a book, and when I was only on page 8, I read this passage that seemed to fit perfectly with my thoughts…

Things are seldom as neat and tidy as that starry-eyed anecdote you share documentary-style on a couch. What I figured out over time is that almost always, when you hear those stories from married couples, there is a little poetic license going on, a romantic spin, polished to a high shine over time. And unless you marry your high school sweetheart (and even sometimes then), there is usually a not-so-glorious back story. There are people and places and events that lead you to your final relationship, people and places and events you’d prefer to forget or at least gloss over. In the end, you can slap a pretty label on it—like serendipity or fate. Or you can believe that it’s just the random way life unfolds.

From Love the One You’re With by Emily Giffin

Yes, my story about how Mr. Nachos and I met when I was 2 years old is all true, but the part where I mentioned that we both had relationships in between that came and went was a little vague. So here’s my story with the gory details…

Reality Check: I am Not a Princess.

January 8th, 2010 @ 3:42 pm by Mrs. Penguin

I am not a princess.

Sometimes I have a rough time coming to terms with this.

My parents set a rather bad example for me, relationship wise. Their dynamic is simple: my mom is the princess, and my dad, a mere serf. If my mom makes a mere shiver, my dad runs upstairs to get her a blanket. If it’s too windy out, my dad will go get the car, even if it’s only 2 blocks away, and pick my mom up from the restaurant. She says, “Jump,” and he says, “How high?” You get it. This dynamic seems to please both parties, and is definitely the relationship I’ve considered my model. It’s all I’ve known, really. It’s adorable and totally screwed up at the same time.

As the years pass by in my own relationship with my husband I realize that we are not my parents, and we’ll never be. HUGE bummer… for me, at least.

In our relationship, we are equals. Many attempts to be spoiled in my relationship have failed.

I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! Let Me Entertain You

January 8th, 2010 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Pug

As I have mentioned, we are not having dancing at our wedding, so it is important to have activities at the wedding that will entertain the guests. For example, we are going to have a DIY faux-tobooth (with silly props) and wish cards that will be displayed on memo boards.

But we need something more. Like, a burlesque stripper a la Gypsy Rose Lee:

Let Me Entertain You : wedding reception Laura B Laura_B

What a great musical ( “EV-erything’s coming up ROSEs and DAFFodils…”). I could create invitations with pictures of dollar bills that say “Bring your singles, ladies and fellas!” And for favors, give out those nifty pens that show a person stripping when you tip the pen over.

I hope this was obvious to every single one of you, but I was kidding.
