Mrs. Hamster, New York City
Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: March 9, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Pierre Hotel
About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
I’m 28 years old, but when it comes to the gigglies, I revert 20 years. When I refer to my BM dresses, I can’t help but think of “bowel movement dresses”. I type out “save-the-date” because I am just *that* immature about “STD”. So when it came time to design our monogram, I was both relieved and slightly disappointed that our initials were relatively boring.
Here’s what I have to work with:
- My first name: S
- His first name: L
- His last name: K
One option would be the my first, his last, his first option, which would yield this:
SKL
However, I may be keeping my last name, so I wasn’t sure if this would work. Another option would be our first initials, separated by an “&.” That gives us:

Mrs. Mouse, Austin
Age and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/Attorney
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer
Engagement Date: December 19, 2007
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Barr Mansion
About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
OK, I know you guys are like, get on with the wedding already, but I’ve got one more batch of portraits to share first. These are the photos of our amazingly photogenic wedding party!
To start things off, the guys (or should I say “dudes”?) rockin’ their skinny ties.

Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CA
Age and Occupation: 33, Lawyer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, ditto
Engagement Date: July 2008
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay
About Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
When we first got engaged, I wanted to do something “different”, partly because I felt that at being post-30, I should be over the frills and chills of a traditional wedding. Well guess what, folks? There’s not a chance.
After going through countless scenarios and considerations, I found myself at a place that resembled much more the traditional wedding than the I’m-so-over-the-wedding-industry celebration that I ever so presumptuously thought I would have. And you know what? There is no crying over spilled milk here. It’s all good. I’m inclined to say that it’ll be great. Because we chose it to be that way and we’re gonna embrace it.
In the meantime, though, let me share with you a few of the possibilities that I had previously conjured and then reluctantly surrendered.
Once upon a time, I thought of having a simple no-frills ceremony at a place with signs like this:

Source (City Hall)
And having a little moment like this, where I get to treasure something really special while still in the everyday world, with people around me going about their business, but me and Mr. Pug knowing and sharing something so happy that it makes things surreal:

Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa
Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer
Engagement Date: November 27, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Gamble Plantation
About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
You’ve all seen my little fluffy fluffertons here, but for those that don’t remember them, here they are this past Halloween:

Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles
Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist
Wedding Date: March 2010
Venue: Calamigos Ranch
About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
For just a few dollars and 1,230,423,234 hours of manual labor, you can make a huge impact on your invitations, just by lining the envelopes. It’s an incredibly simple DIY project, as well, and you needn’t be the crafty type (I’m certainly not!) to do it! All you need are:
- Envelopes
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape or glue
- The patience of a saint
- A really fabulous bridesmaid who is on winter break and is willing to help (optional)
I didn’t use a tutorial or a pre-made template (though both of those things exist); I instead took apart one of my envelopes, traced the inside of the back and flap, and cut it off before I got to the adhesive on the flap. Like Mrs. Pineapple, I found the most difficult part to be getting the angles right on my homemade template—I think this is a lot easier with pointy-flap envelopes than square ones (so if you plan to make your own liners and you don’t already have your envelopes, I highly recommend getting pointed ones!).

About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!

Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel Reception
About Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
… Burger ever forgets his name…
I’ve become obsessed with buying him things with his initials all over them.
I guess it started when we decided to get engraved cufflinks for the groomsmen, and I snuck in a pair for Burger in the order:

Then, while on my Surgical Oncology rotation, I noticed one of the well-dressed attending physicians had a monogrammed dress shirt.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer
Engagement Date: May 22, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas
About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
Most people set a budget when they begin planning a wedding. We did not.

(source)
We both agreed on what kind of wedding we wanted—something small and intimate and far away on a tropical island. That was about all the planning we did before consulting with our families and booking/buying things. We were planning on paying for all of the wedding expenses ourselves from the beginning: the ceremony, a 2 week all-inclusive trip, a home party, attire, invitations, decorations, you name it—basically everything, minus our guests’ trips. We DEFINITELY don’t have money coming out of our ears, but we make enough to pay the bills and we always have a little left over. Our budgeting method: we knew when we saw a dollar amount on things if said amount was too much or actually do-able. In the last 2 years, I’ve been trying to be a better saver.

About Me: I love melty cheese and diet coke almost as much as I love my man. I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
I relished in every single minute of the “prettifying” part of my wedding day like it the sleepover party of my dreams. Surrounded by my favorite ladies (sisters Dawn and Kim, future sister-in-law Cathy, bestie Mapo and my mom), getting the royal treatment, feeling full of joy, relaxed and openhearted, my body buzzing with anticipation. It was a fairy tale transformation that made me feel like a bad-ass princess, ready to take on the day, find my prince charming and waltz our way into our happily-ever-after.

Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI
Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant
Engagement Date: January 1, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Narragansett Towers
About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
I really love New Year’s resolutions. I do. And I’m good at following up on them. I’m not good at following up with most things, so this resolution follow-up is really quite impressive. The trick for me is to devise small, manageable changes.
Last year’s was “Eat breakfast before leaving the house in the morning.” Check!
The year before: “Blog more.” BIG check!
This year… well, there is a whole lot that I’d like to change (the Cliff Notes version: managing stress, navigating my grad school-induced anxiety, waking up earlier, cook more, etc. etc.). But one concrete resolution starts with my nails.
Yes, it does! Starts with my nails. My nails are terrible. I’m not a nail-biter. It’s just that my nails and I lead completely disparate existences. I ignore them, they ignore me. In return, when I happen to look down at them, I might notice ragged edges, dry cuticles, inconsistent shapes. I rarely paint them, I sure as hell don’t file them, and I’ve gotten maybe 3 manicures in my life. In a list of priorities, my nails are at the very very bottom. The bottom of the bottom. Not to mention they’re a terrible canvas to showcase my beautiful ring.

Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
One of the hardest things I had to do with the wedding planning process was to pick a “theme” and to go with it. There are so many wonderful ideas out there in wedding-land, and picking just one was almost an impossible thought for me! So, I decided to make an inspiration board early on. Some of the keywords that I want to embody in our wedding are “whimsical, modern, lighthearted, late spring/early summer,” etc.
This one in particular is the original inspiration for myself and my bridal party (note: the dress pictured is NOT my wedding dress… I’m still trying to keep that somewhat of a secret at the moment).
Bridesmaid dress (J.Crew), flower girl dress, hair flower, wedding dress, shoe (Nordstrom), necklace, garters, bouquet

Engagement Date: March 5, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA
About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
I’ve only been to one wedding that had bathroom baskets before, but boy was I glad to find mints for after dinner and a hair scrunchie to tie up my hair for dancing!
So I figured I’d give our guests the same courtesy, and provide some essentials in the bathrooms, in case they forgot anything they might need to make them more comfortable during our reception. And, since none of the contents will go bad anytime soon, it was something that I could easily tackle way ahead of time.
After a visit to Michaels where I got 4 baskets for $20 on sale (the other 2 will be used for our guest book table and holding programs), and Target for all the stuff to go into the baskets ($153.96 before tax), I had everything I needed. Here’s what went into the baskets:
Men’s Bathroom Basket:
- Mini travel lint roller
- 2 travel packs of Shout stain remover wipes
- Trident mints
- Orbits mints
- 2 Breathsavers mints
- Orange Tic Tacs
- Altoids smalls
- Box of Kleenex (green)
- Travel size Tums
- Box of Band Aids
- Neosporin To Go Spray
- Travel pack of Q-Tips
- Claritin
- Excedrin Migraine
- Halls
- Travel Lotion
- Travel Purel
- Spray on Degree Antiperspirant

Mrs. Sprinkle, Los Angeles
Age and Occupation: 26, Preschool Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Television Production/Writer
Engagement Date: December 24, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: The Marvimon House
About Me: I'm a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!
So let’s do a quick recap here, since we are about to get down to the nitty-gritty of wedding goodness.
First, the day before the wedding was crazy, but I made it through to the rehearsal dinner (also crazy) and then I even managed to write a blog post and eat some food. Then I woke up and got pretty, Mr. Sprinkle got pretty, we got to see each other lookin’ all pretty, and then we took posed photos while being pretty. Some friends joined us (they looked pretty, too!) and we all hung out and drank beer for an hour. And now, NOW, our guests are about to arrive.
If I could pick one word to describe our wedding day, it would be f’ing awesome. OK, maybe that’s two words. So if I could pick three words to describe it, they would be relaxing and f’ing awesome, because I spent a big part of the day just sitting and watching and enjoying. I could even describe it as a little too relaxing. But I don’t, ’cause that would be silly. Final proof of relaxation before the good stuff happened:

Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee
Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor
Engagement Date: September 20, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom
About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
When I selected my wedding gown, I fell in love with its simplicity. Sure, it has a super-awesome 3-tier full skirt that makes me want to twirl around in a circle like I’m 8 years old again, but the bodice of my gown is without any sort of ornamentation. No bling. No jewels. No lace. Just perfect, in my opinion.
So, the other day when I was trying it on (making sure it still fit after all of the holiday goodies I indulged in — and, miracle of miracles, it does!), I thought about how it would look with my W-day jewelry. And with my hair and makeup done. The “whole package”, if you will. And then I remembered how I had purchased a wonderful hair fascinator from Kasia Fink Veils. It looks like this:

I started tossing around the idea lately of dressing up my gown a bit with the fascinator…not by wearing it in my hair, but wearing it on my gown!
