I obsess. Over everything. It’s a well-known fact. Most of the time, I like to imagine that it adds to my charm, my character, my overall interestingness.
Sometimes it makes me want to poke my eyes out.
As an artist (ugh, that sounds so pompous), I felt that I needed to design all of our paper goods or I’d kick myself. So, I’m designing all of our paper goods. There’s a catch-22 in that I’ve also been kicking myself for making that decision! I’ve been obsessing, obsessing, researching, obsessing, and making mock-up after mock-up after mock-up for months and months and months. I’ve nearly driven myself mad over it.
Fast forward to fairly recently, when a sort of calm idea passed through my brain while drooling over Max Wanger’s work.

So, we all have our New Years Resolutions, yes? Well, just like many others who have come before Mr. Rainbow and me, one of our resolutions is indeed weight related. Surprise, surprise.
You know how it goes. You work out and diet and primp in order to find a mate. Don’t deny it, don’t even lie, you know you’ve done it, too. Then, when you catch your prey, those things generally start to fall by the wayside. You want to spend every extra moment with your SO, and the gym is infringing on that time. Add that to the fact that dating generally relies heavily on going out to dinner dates and what not, and the next thing you know, you wake up, look in the mirror and…
“What the hell happened to me? I used to be so cute/hot/sexy/etc! Ugh.”
Yeah, well I’m feeling double “Ugh”, and it’s high time to do something about it!
With the wedding exactly 9 months away from the New Year, I’m counting on you to keep me honest! I have a severe exercise allergy and it’s no secret that I’m a total foodie, so I’m hoping that sharing my journey to “Bringing Sexy Back: Rainbow Style” with the hive is just what I need to keep me on track.

Sometimes people love registering (yay gifts!), sometimes people hate it (boo decor arguments). For Mr. Guinea Pig and me, it was sort of a neutral experience. We both feel weird making a list of things we want people to get us… but if people are going to give us stuff anyway, we’d rather be able to make suggestions for what we’d like. And because we use it for everything else in our life, our main registry is at Amazon.com (although I have yet to explore the Universal Registry Button)! We registered at Target and Crate & Barrel for some brick & mortar options as well. But, to offset our creepy feelings of registering for gifts, we are also suggesting on our wedding website that in lieu of gifts, people can make donations to two charities that have a lot of meaning to us: the Maryland SPCA, and Playworks. I have no idea how many people will take advantage of that option, but just knowing it’s there put Mr. Guinea Pig and me more at ease.
So, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Mr. GP and I sat down with our computers and added stuff to our 3 registries. Independently. And we never set foot in a store. Is that weird?

Amariem25 and her new husband are getting their PhDs in biomedical science, so they gave their beautiful fall wedding a science theme. Erlenmeyer flasks, holding ostrich feathers, made for perfect centerpieces.

Music is a very important part of our relationship. Burger is a talented musician (in my opinion), and he introduced me to a lot of amazing tunes that I otherwise never would have heard. Because of this, we hope to customize as much of the music played on our big day as possible.
Because we are having a Catholic mass, our ceremony music choices are slightly limited. We are not allowed to have secular music in any form (even instrumentals). We were, however, given a list of “Catholic approved” classical music to choose from, thus, giving us some room for personalization.
Here are our (fairly standard) selections for the ceremony:
Processional (Family & Bridesmaids): “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring”, Bach
I received the greatest Christmas gift from my sister this year! She put so much time, thought and love into this and it totally touches my heart that she went to this much trouble for me.
I present to you her gift to me – a wedding planning scrapbook, complete with all of my blog entries!!!

I love love love the paisley cover

I originally thought engagement pictures were an unnecessary expense, but the more I saw other brides posting their engagement pictures, the more I realized that I wanted them! Why? ‘Cuz I wanted them!
Well, also because I think it’s good practice to be in front of a camera and to see if there are any weird, unattractive habits we have (like, ahem, a tall white man slouching, cough).
Of course, after I got all ramped up for it, it turned out that we couldn’t set a date with our wedding photographer (he was living in Singapore and is moving to California). On a whim, I posted an ad on Weddingbee on Friday, October 30 looking for an affordable photographer who would do an engagement shoot.
Luckily, my first response was from Ananda Lima, a totally sweet woman who was hoping to get a Halloween-themed engagement shoot before Halloween. It sounded great! We pulled it together in 36 hours.
Kevin and I love Halloween (even though we don’t always get dressed up), so when Ananda suggested pumpkin carving and wearing silly props, we were excited. I got a bunch of props and some pumpkins, she brought even more great props and flowers, and we had a go of it on a beautiful fall Sunday.
The results?

We hope you rang in the New Year with a big bang and are having a lovely first day of 2010. Posting will be light today as we all take time to enjoy the holiday with our families!
