And the Craft Gene Goes To…

January 26th, 2010 @ 3:32 pm by Mrs. Pug

My sister has much more skills than I do when it comes to crafting things. For example, while I love baking, I’m lazy. One bowl brownies over layer cake? Done. Drop cookies as opposed to cutouts? Done.

My sister, on the other hand, has taken a cake decorating class, now makes all her own stationery, sews sweaters for the pugs, etc. Here’s an example of her handiwork.

And the Craft Gene Goes To... : wedding favors Ddojs dd+OJ+s

And yes, it has a drawstring collar. This craftiness has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages? More goodies for me. Someone who will use the Gocco after the wedding and make it worth the money. Etc.

The disadvantages?

I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!
About Mrs. Sprinkle

When we last left off, our officiant had just asked us to begin to pledge our vows, as a large and loud distraction appeared in the sky. What was looming above us?

A helicopter.

Yes, a really loud, low flying, obnoxious helicopter. Really, I shouldn’t have been surprised, this is Los Angeles, after all.

We paused for a moment to let the helicopter move on (luckily, it didn’t seem to be circling the neighborhood, which can sometimes go on for HOURS here!) and a few guests made silly paparazzi jokes!

Custom Dress Illustration = Divine! : wedding gift ideas wedding dress 016 Pri

So… rewind a few months to this summer, when I was in the midst of wedding dress shopping. I was buried up to my nose in wedding magazines, and my eyes were crossing from staring at a computer screen for hours at a time, searching endlessly through wedding dress inspiration!

Anyway, as I was contemplating my dress budget and the like, I started to ponder the thought of what exactly I would be doing with my dress after the day is over. What is a girl to do?

Ruby Slippers, Please

January 26th, 2010 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Now before we jump right into the shoe-fest, let’s talk about the needs. You see, I’m about two inches taller than dear Mr. Sewing, so I am not allowed to wear heels when we’re together. Flats, it is!

And then, after loving the way the little red shoes looked on our save the date magnet, I decided I needed red shoes. Yes, needed.

The Final Table Number Post

January 26th, 2010 @ 2:04 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

Yes, you read that correctly. I have finally reached the end of my table number saga. If you’re particularly intrigued bored, you can read the first three parts here, here and here

The worst part about putting all this thought, effort and time into the table numbers is that they are one of those things that no one’s going to notice! Seriously, if I get even one comment about these during or after the wedding, I will be happy (and surprised).

But I suppose it’s my prerogative as a slightly-obsessed bride (OK, fine, some might call me psycho, it’s cool…) to put as little or as much time into these minute details as I want. And hot damn, I put a lot of time into these bad boys.

I ordered lots of absolutely beautiful decorative paper from Dick Blick Art Materials. Not only did I order two separate packs in specific color schemes but the store also offers scrap paper by the 1/2 or pound, like the example below. It comes in all shapes, colors and sizes so don’t bet on getting anything in specific but the scraps I got are so freakin’ gorgeous, it didn’t even matter!

After I decided to go to the pros with our invites, I decided that I wanted to add a special touch to each. I thought about getting some sort of stamp for the inside, maybe something floral or swirly to put along the side of the wording because they seem a little plain…

I carry mustard packets in my purse and I love perusing the aisles at discount stores. A self proclaimed shopaholic, I impulsively buy electronics, software, and craft tools; none of which I know how to use. I'm excited to dust these babies off and immerse myself in DIY projects galore in preparation for our DW in paradise!
About Mrs. Piglet

After dropping off the OOT bags, my sister and I went back to our hotel, woke up Mr Piglet, and headed out the door to start on our long list of to dos. First on the list, eat. My sister is happy so long as her stomach is full. Happy sister equals happy Piglet. I love her company, and wanted her with me for as long as she could bear it. So Zippy’s had become a part of our daily routine: spam and eggs, and a huge ass cup of java. :D

Dapper Dudes

January 26th, 2010 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Hamster

Now that we’ve picked out the ladies’ outfits, it’s time to move on to the menfolk. Both the Mister and I agreed that we didn’t want anything too crazy—we pretty much wanted a classic look. I had something like this in mind:

Yup, I definitely had that in mind. And his tux looks pretty good, too. (I know, he’s years younger than me - what?).

With visions of Robert dancing in my head, we headed over to the nearest Men’s Wearhouse. For the uninitiated, this place is like the Kleinfeld of menswear (minus the bridal entourage and cameras filming “Say Yes to the Tuxedo”).

I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

The Mighty Dress Search, Part 2

January 26th, 2010 @ 12:27 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

So there I was, owner of a J.Crew wedding gown I didn’t love. At some point during this saga, my parents visited DC. But first, let me come clean:

I went to the Saks Jandel Vera Wang in Chevy Chase a few weeks after I went to Saks. I asked to see their sample gowns and said my budget was $3,000 (fearing I wouldn’t be shown anything for less than that). The saleswoman asked the typical questions about my wedding size and location, noting that ball gowns weren’t “typical” for a wedding of my size. I felt a little silly, but still said that I’d like to try on one if they did have a sample.

Mr. Ribbons, step away from the blog post.

I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

I often joke that we’re the broke man’s Brad & Angie; a misunderstood brunette with a heart of gold, and a blonde haired, blue eyed fox with an adventurous streak, minus the mansions, millions of dollars, and 84 kids. And uhm, they have chemistry for days, but that’s beside the point.

What’s Your Flavor…

What's Your Flavor... : wedding beauty Flavor2 Flavor2

They say scent is strongly tied to memory and one small whiff of a familiar aroma can take a person “back”. I hadn’t realized how this could relate to weddings until I was a bridesmaid in (my bridesmaid) PF’s wedding this past July.

PF bought Vera Wang’s Bouquet fragrance to wear on her wedding day so that her soon-to-be-husband would attach the fragrance to their wedding and when she wore it again afterward, they would both be reminded of their wedding day and it would be super mushy cute.

Sweet.
