Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. Our officiant, Deidra, opened our ceremony by welcoming all of our guests, and thanking them for being there. She paid special attention to those friends and family members who traveled from outside of Los Angeles. She went on to a special thank you to our parents, and then she spoke a few words about embracing the love of the family and friends who were there for us.

See that square bottom? Apparently they do not make many pedestal cake stands in a square shape in the size that I need. I talked to my cake lady about this, and she offered me two solutions:

Let’s talk about hairpieces! In the course of my dress shopping process, I did try on a veil or two, but was left feeling a little “blah” about them. They are classic, but are they “me”? I wasn’t so sure. I knew that even if I did wear a veil, it would only be for the ceremony, so I reasoned that it would probably be a better use of my hair stylist’s efforts to wear a beautiful flower instead! I would be terrified to make the switch post-ceremony without destroying my hair!
So, I began my Etsy search for the perfect hair flower. And I’ll be honest… I’m not done quite yet. I came across this flower first from Y&E Bridal, and I quickly purchased it:

Anytoes, my tootsies have been keeping toasty recently thanks to my very thoughtful Lambaid of Honor. E sent me home from the wedding with a relaxation kit full of bath goodies, an eye mask and these darling slippers.

The first store I went to on my magical dress journey was Saks. This was last spring, when I heard they were getting rid of the wedding departments at most of their stores, and I lunged at the chance for a sample designer gown. The DC area store was already sold out, so we ventured down to Richmond, Virginia.
I was allowed to pull whatever I wanted from the racks. All of the gowns were in bags so it was hell figuring out what was what and I will admit, I was looking for big name designers. I ended up with an Amsale, Carolina Herrera and who knows what else in my dressing room.

So when I left off I had found every amazing (and expensive) couture/designer piece of menswear inspired women’s wear on the net. Exaggeration? Maybe. Probably not, though. I posted the pics so that we can all be ridiculously inspired, ultimately shocked at the price tag, and then phenomenally disappointed as we head towards the Men’s Wearhouse and hope for the best.
Why not? It’s old. It’s frumpy. That tie’s too wide. And it looks like it came from the Men’s Wearhouse. And guess what? I’m interested in dressing HOT ladies not shlumpy dudes! I initially thought about filling them with customized M&Ms because I like the thought of giving something edible. I looked up prices and they were ridiculous! I also learned that my future mother-in-law had the same idea and after she did her research, she came to the same conclusion.
