Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI
Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant
Engagement Date: January 1, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Narragansett Towers
About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
Come chat with me tomorrow evening (March 1) at 7 PM EST on BeeTV! I’m on spring break this week so bring your beads and your booze because it’s gonna go down MTV-style!!

Or, you know… we can chat about weddings, 16 & Pregnant, and our to-do lists. See you there!
Mrs. Lace, Pasadena, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Elementary school teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Engineer
Engagement Date: September 6, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Orange County Performing Arts Center
About Me: Born and raised in Southern California, my fiance and I are marrying in Orange County. We're planning a vintage wedding with a modern twist. I am an elementary school teacher by day and a wedding planner by night. I love reading, blogging, scrapbooking, trying out new DIY projects, buying awesome finds at incredible deals and spending time with friends and family. Trying new restaurants, traveling and shopping also top my hobby list. I'm anxious to share my wedding ideas and planning with the hive!
I previously posted about all these beautiful sashes that I love, but am not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on. I buckled down and began looking at different flowers at shops. Flowers on belts, shirts, headbands, clips, fascinators, cardigans, dresses and shoes. I knew I had to just sit down and try to make some flowers and see how they turned out. I bought some fabric (with my 40% off coupon at Jo-Ann’s), pulled out my sewing supplies and got to work. Here’s what I came up with. Oh yes, and in case you were wondering who took these awesome photos with doubly awesome backgrounds (rose colored carpet anyone?), it was me!

I made a flower stencil using cardstock and pinned it to the fabric. I cut out a LOT of flowers.

Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee
Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor
Engagement Date: September 20, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom
About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
Like many other bees, we are foregoing the tuxedo rental and going with suits for Mr. French Fries and the men in our wedding party. Remember my love affair with Barney Stinson and Chuck Bass? Need a refresher?

Source
Ahhh yes. Thank you, Gossip Girl. So, it had been decided: the fry guys would be wearing suits. When we originally made this decision, however, it was a tad too early to start looking for said suits. But a few weeks ago I got an email saying that Men’s Wearhouse was having a 50% off sale, so we decided to strike while the iron was hot.
What did we end up with?

Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot
Engagement Date: February 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington
About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
I met with a friend who is getting married, and told me she really wanted to make sure the ladies’ restroom was made special with flower arrangements, candles, special lotions and amenities. Her reasoning? She does that at home. Her guest bathrooms are filled with goodies and treats to make her guests feel like they are at home away from home, and that they are taken care of. It’s just a minor detail, but especially for women, it can go a long way.
I know some venues offer the basics of something like this, but I really love the idea of making sure our guests feel appreciated in every single aspect of our wedding. Obviously, not all of (okay, most of) our guests will pay attention to these details, but someone will notice. It is just a small little element that won’t really add too much to our budget, but will definitely add a special touch. The list ranges from lotions, mints, tampons, hairspray.
Needless to say, I am brainstorming for some ideas to incorporate this idea into our wedding. What sort of little touches do you think guests would appreciate?
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego
Age and Occupation: 28, Professor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor
Engagement Date: December 20, 2008
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant
About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
I’ve mentioned a couple times that we will be partaking in some of the traditional Vietnamese wedding rituals, but we will be modernizing them and changing them up to suit our needs and relationship. Well, before I completely confuse you, I’ll start with the traditions and their meanings. Then later, I’ll mess it all up for you.
So here I’ve modified a version of Wikipedia’s Traditional Vietnamese Wedding post. For visual ease, I’m including pictures from a couple of family weddings.

On the day of the wedding, there is first a procession and gifting by the groom’s family for the bride and her family.

Mrs. Bunny, Columbus
Age and Occupation: 24, Associate Editor/Reporter
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Reporter
Engagement Date: September 23, 2008
Wedding Date: July 2009
Venue: Everal Barn, Westerville
About Me: Organized, but messy. I love art (all kinds). I don't have any secrets. I talk a lot and listen even more. I show love by baking. I'm timid by nature, but brave when it counts.
Mr. Bunny and I work at competing weekly newspapers, which makes it a little interesting trying to describe our work joys and frustrations without giving away too much before the paper comes out. In spite of that little hurdle, we've managed to build a pretty solid relationship in the short one-and-a-half years we will have been together when we tie the knot. I can't wait!
Now that all the drama is out of the way, it’s time for the fun stuff!
Sister Bunny rolled in to town one week before the wedding and managed to get together a kickin’ bachelorette party while I was at work that day.
Keep in mind, we had several underage attendees and many others who don’t drink, so our fun was (mostly) adrenaline generated.
The Bunny bridesmaids kept me in the dark about the party plans, so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I showed up at my cousin’s house after work that Friday, and this is what I saw:

See those blankets tacked up along the ceiling? Yes, that is one GINORMOUS slumber-party style fort! Of course they focused the decor on blue and pink, the main wedding colors.

Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot
Engagement Date: February 21, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery
About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
Finding a venue was one of the most challenging parts of planning the wedding. I really wanted a vineyard setting, and with a guest list of about 200 people, it limited us a lot. My dream would have been a Napa wedding, but Napa comes with a hefty price tag. It’s also very hard to find a winery setting with enough space for an indoor reception for 200, and I wanted an indoor reception in case the weather didn’t cooperate. After hours of searching on herecomestheguide.com and Yelp, we narrowed it down to 5 possible venues. Three of them were wineries, and they all happened to be in the Pleasanton/Livermore area, which is conveniently located in between our parents’ houses. Apparently, it’s the new up-and-coming wine country, and it’s much more affordable than Napa. Here were the wineries we checked out:
- Palm Event Center (Pleasanton): Palm Event Center is located right next to Mitchell Katz winery, and it features rustic wine barrel decor and a beautiful palm lined entrance. One thing that struck me about the place is how all-inclusive everything was – it comes with catering, linens, an in-house DOC (for a small charge)… it sounded great to our overwhelmed Jelly ears! This was the first venue we visited, and Mr. Jelly fell in love with it right away. I loved it too, but needed to shop around more before committing to a venue.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
I know that I can’t be the only one out there… right?

It is my wedding day. For some reason, it is nighttime, and everyone is getting ready for the event at a large mansion by the beach. I walk down a hallway to where Mr. Buttons and his groomsmen are getting changed, and am horrified with what I see!

Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters
About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!
I knooow my next post was supposed to be the big dress reveal. But this is a matter of utmost importance!
Our groomsmen need to be informed about their shoe situation. This is a difficult task considering we haven’t yet made that decision!
And boy, is it a difficult decision to make. Waaay back in the beginning of our engagement, back when we chose our colors, I had mentioned that I’d like for our guys to wear red Converse with their suits. Yesterday, we received an email from a concerned groomsman regarding their shoes and what they should purchase.
I told them I’d let them know by tomorrow. Before I do that, I’d like your input! I can’t decide between Vans or Converse. I’m a Vans girl myself, but Converse has so many more customization options!
The Facts: Our groomsmen will be wearing casual, grey suits. I’ve given them general color guidelines and have told them to purchase a suit that they’d be able to wear again. Our bridesmaids will be wearing a minty aqua colored dress with red flats. And well, you’ve all seen my shoes.

Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HI
Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical Engineer
Engagement Date: June 27, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, Honolulu
About Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Cake, flowers, venues… what else am I missing?
Oh, right! A photographer!
Though Sewing-Mom did an excellent job with our engagement photos, she won’t debut as our main wedding-day photographer. I’d like to say this is because I don’t want her to have to work while she should be relaxing and enjoying herself - but this really isn’t the reason. Sewing-Mom is never, ever without her cameras, and to deprive her of one would probably give her an anxiety attack. No, she’ll be taking pictures. As many as she wants; I’m not going to prevent her from doing what she enjoys most joy in life.
Instead, we’ll be hiring a professional simply because we need a professional. Someone who knows how weddings work, where to get the best shots, and how to work a crowd. Simple, no? With that, I started searching around, through Google, review sites, Craigslist - looking for a certain style to catch my eye.
I can say I want a photojournalistic style. But there’s more to it than that.

Groom’s cakes are a bit of a Southern tradition, so Midwesterners are not too familiar with the idea – although, they are popping up more in town.
Here’s a little background (thanks to the Wedding Channel):
The Groom’s cake is an American South tradition, intended to be a gift from the bride to the groom. It can often take the shape of just about anything, or come in the form of a cheesecake, chocolate cake or pie (amongst other things).
More recently, the idea of fun cakes that reflect a hobby or profession of the Groom have gained popularity, thanks in part to shows like Ace of Cakes.

Patty Cakes
(I had to give a nod to the Mr. Argyle’s occupation, of course).

About Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
Yes, I may have ripped that title right from Sex and the City. (Or on second thought, was it Choos? As in Jimmy? Hmmmm.)
Anyways, a more accurate (albeit longer) title of this post could have been this: Miss Trail Mix vs J.Crew in a battle of the wedding shoes.
Witness my shoe evolution (ridiculous me bought 4 different pairs of shoes for the wedding over the course of 7 months, shhhhhh! And YES, they were all from J.Crew. I have a problem, I know.
First, way back in July, I scored the Caribe Espadrilles on sale for only $40! This was when I was envisioning yellow shoes a la Mrs Joey and more casual feel for our wedding…

(Personal Photo)
They came, arrived, fit, and looked beautiful, BUT… the mule style had the back flipping and flapping a bit, which made me nervous. I decided to keep ‘em for the rehearsal dinner and move on with my search.
