About Mrs. Pencils

In the Final Hours

February 1st, 2010 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Pencils

Mr. Pencils and I have contradictory-opposite-side-of-the-sea-not-even-on-the-same-continent ideas of the ideal wedding morning (it’s that dramatic). In our final hours as single people(it always sounds so weighty and profound to say such phrases) we envision scenes that could not be more different.

This slightly obscure topic of conversation came up because I suck at surprises—receiving them and planning them. In this case, it was planning one. I was considering gifting Mr. Pencils a skydiving adventure with FBIL for my wedding day gift to him and I wanted to be sure that he wanted to do it with someone, rather than alone. (And for fellow children of the ’80s, I do immediately think of Uncle Jesse getting stuck in a tree while skydiving the morning of his wedding to Aunt Becky and arriving to his wedding covered in tomato stains and I do slightly fear this ending, including the three blonde girls of varying sizes.)

Mr. Pencils told me he actually preferred that I give him something he could hold and remember our wedding day by, and that he planned on spending the morning of our wedding (aka, the final hours) alone, in thought, chilling, relaxing all cool (how many TBS reruns can I reference in one post?) at our house.

Alone? In thought? At our house?

I thought he’d want to be with his groomsmen, shooting the shite, basking in the glow of about-to-be-wedded bliss. Silly me. He’d rather contemplate the giant step he’s about to take. Alone. Anyone see where my mind went when he told me this? After assuaging my bridal-panic fears of being left at the altar (silly me, again), he explained that he really just wants to enjoy the day, hassle free, thinking about me and our future and the family we’re about to create for ourselves. So sweet, it’s sickly.

Me? I want to wake up around 9, swallow some fruit and oatmeal, get just-less-than-giddy with some yummy champagne, enjoy some wedding themed movies (an idea stolen from my Bridesmaid K who got married this summer) with my ’maids, and leisurely get my hair and makeup did. I plan on doing some contemplating, but of the super-nervous-excited-happy-smiley kind. I’m thinking Father of the Bride or Mamma Mia with some champagne and strawberries sounds just about perfect for my final hours as a single gal.

How are you planning on spending the final hours before your wedding?

Mine is waking up at the crack of dawn with an organized schedule of hair and makeup, pictures getting ready, making sure everything is decorated and my ladies are fed lunch, etc… I’ll be enjoying these things of course. My FI? Sleeping in until the last possible minute. Oh boys. I’m glad I have stuff to fill my morning. I wouldn’t be able to sleep in and the morning would draaaag on if I didn’t have stuff to do.

I loved your TBS references!

My wedding is early afternoon, so unfortunately I won’t be able to relax TOO much. Up early, hairdo, makeup, get ready. I hope there is time in there for some deep breathing and mimosas….

If I get up in time, some Pilates. Then off to the salon to get my hair and make-up done. Then lunch with the ladies in my room as we get dressed and the photographer shows up. So I’ll be busy, but I’m guessing that will be a good thing. I’m not necessary the most “patient” of people. *shrug*

this makes me giggle because i realize that in drawing up a draft day-of timeline, i just *assumed* that mr. pug would want to hang out with a group of people, handpicked by me. huh. perhaps i should ask him.

Well, it’s a good thing that he’s even thought about it at all! The Dude didn’t know that we were supposed to be getting ready for the wedding in SEPARATE locales until I informed him of that, haha.

Oh I love the cheesy wedding movies idea. I can’t recall if our bridal apartment has a TV, I’ll have to look into that. And <3 TGIF sitcoms.

We really haven’t thought about what we are going to do the morning of exactly. Now you got me thinking! Oh and I love Father of the Bride and Mamma Mia :) If I could wear the dress from Mamma Mia it would be a dream!

We don’t need to get our hair done till noonish, so hopefully we’ll be lounging and drinking that morning :)

While I would like to spend the night before the wedding with Mr. FF at the hotel, he’s much to traditional and insisting we spend it apart. Mr. Pencils sounds like a very sweet guy, though! :)

Mr. S and I both want to spend the morning before the wedding at brunch with our closest friends… which means we’ve got some research to do as there is only one restaurant at the hotel and we *clearly* need another location. :)

Part of the reason that I decided not to have a large wedding party was because I don’t want to be surrounded by chaos on the morning of the wedding. Just me, my mom, my sister - sounds like perfection to me!

I like the wedding movies idea too! And you’re not alone in the left at the altar stress. I know it won’t happen…but who thinks it will? (but it still does)/.

The VERY FIRST thing I thought when I read “skydiving” on the wedding day was that full house episode. No joke, THE first thought. haha too good.
