Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Ribbon Wands

February 1st, 2010 @ 10:57 am by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

It was a mad crafting weekend at the Fro Yo house. I gathered dowels, ribbons, scissors and glue guns and I was off and running. Mr. Fro Yo even got in on the fun and helped me cut some ribbon, though he refused to attach them to the dowels.

I’m a little worried that my ribbon wands look like a kindergartner’s craft project, but to be honest I don’t even care that much. I’m proud of how they turned out and I think they’ll look super cute as our guests are waving them for the send off. And best of all, this project cost me a whopping $5. OK, so I’ve only made about 1/3 of what I need to make, so the price will increase to about $15 for the entire project, but that’s not bad at all, and much less than I would have spent had I outsourced this little project of mine.

So, are you ready to see them?

Would you wave them for the send off?

For those of you interested in how I did this, it was super simple.

I cut ribbon to the length I thought they should be. There was no measuring; I just eyeballed it (like Rachael Ray would say).

Then, I tied the ribbon around the end of the dowel, but before tying it all the way on, I squeezed a little glue right underneath where they would lay.

I tried it without the glue first, and the ribbon slipped right off. I envisioned our guests waving the wands madly as we ran through, and ribbons falling off the ends of it, which would not make for very good pictures.

Then, I did a double knot and placed them in their container to dry. That’s it!

Are you making ribbon wands? What’s your advice for the next set I make?

We’re doing the exact same thing for our send off. I think we’ll probably wrap the ribbon all the way around the dowel and secure it with some type of sticker dot. I’m thinking they’ll be easier to distribute that way. We haven’t started them yet so we may end up changing our mind about that but we’re definitely using these! Thanks for the tips!

@mander411: I got them at JoAnns. I couldn’t find them at Michaels. They were 99 cents for 20. Not bad at all.
@Miss Pug: see, if you claim not to be crafty, then no one will make fun of your projects when you finish them. They’ll be so proud that you actually did something on your own without asking for their help. :)

We used these as well. I actually screwed tiny eyelets into the top of each dowel to tie the ribbon to. I couldn’t figure out how to attach them otherwise, but I guess you worked it out. They came out pretty cute in pictures! Good job!

We’re using the wands - I think… and I love yours. I’ll probably take the same approach with our colors. Good Job!!!

I’m making these for my wedding and I’ve been playing around… I think I’m going to glue the ribbon to the dowel then wrap the ribbon about the dowel once and add another dot of glue… That way I don’t have the edge of the ribbon sticking out.

We did those as well and I think yours look great! Ours look very similar…we used ivory and mint green for colors. It’s a great way to do a send off in style…the pictures will look fabulous!! Great job!
