Faking the Makeup Trial

Since I’m getting married in Bloomington, I’m doing my own makeup for the wedding. I’m pretty particular about makeup, so putting it in the hands of a stranger with no trial was just too stressful.

Here’s the point where I’d show you my inspiration look. I have one, I swear, I just can’t find it online… but let’s just say it’s sort of like this. I want to look young and vibrant, not overdone. A bright lip, flushed cheeks, and natural-looking eyes.

Nars Semimatte Lipstick in Schiap

Nars Highlighter in Hungry Heart

Nars Duo Eyeshadow in All About Eve

Benefit Browzings

Benefit Badgal Mascara

Benefit Gilded Highlighting Pencil

I used a sample of Nars makeup primer and some Clinique foundation, plus some mineral powder from the Boots line at Target. After all that, here is the result:

It’s not exactly what I was going for. Now, one mistake was that I thought the highlighter could function as blush. Word to the wise: it doesn’t work that way. So next time I will use a peony-hued cream blush that I have and see if it perks things up. The lipstick is, surprisingly, not as shocking as it is in the tube. I really think the matte tempers the color, to the point where I may pick up a sheer gold lip gloss to layer on top. Stay tuned for part two!

I, or my MOH will be doing my make up, and yes, I have a MAJOR shopping list. Our wedding is exactly 8 months from today, so I have been trying to figure out what I can start buying now to help spread the costs…however with cosmetics that is really hard to do!

Pretty! Have you tried Stila’s Convertible Color? They have a color called Peony, actually, but I’m thinking it might not be quite pink enough for what you’re going for. You should try it in Petunia- it might be just what you’re looking for- a semi-bright pink cream blush. It’s soo pretty!

For a young, fresh blush, I really like the Tarte gel blush sticks. I like your color choices a lot. Maybe use a little more lip color for empahsis?

I need to try that Nars color, because it looks ridonk awesome on you. I love it.

I keep trying to find pinky enough as well. I just get so nervous because my lips are too big, and I end up looking like a queen-sized futon.

I’m contemplating doing my own makeup since i’ll be in the caribbean and have no way of doing a trail run. Thankfully my co-worker is also a makeup artist and i’m going shopping with her to get what I need and also for her to show me how to apply the makeup! crossing my fingers for you and me and anyone else in the same boat!!

Hmm for the look you’re going for, I have a couple suggestions!!

Blush- nars orgasm is universally great-looking on everyone, but in the marie antoinette pic above it looks more pink than orgasm. nars has another shade that i like that looks similar to that, called mata hari!

lips- you definitely need a more vibrant color. may i suggest chanel glosses? i got a set of them as a gift, and i never leave home without them- the color is so vibrant and shiny and beautiful!

lastly, mascara- i seriously have to plug for my new favorite, tube technology mascaras. give one a try!!

I’ll be doing my own makeup as well, probably just using the same stuff I wear daily but amping up the eyes a bit. Your first trial with yourself doesn’t look bad at all. Can’t wait to see round 2!
