Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I think for most brides, the “something new” is probably the easiest to figure out. I have my light gold dress, jewelry, veil (which my mom will be making, and I’ll share once it’s done), shoes (although there is a dilemma with them that I will also share at some point), hair accessories… much of what I’ll be wearing will be new, so check that “something” off the list!

Gettin' My Somethings On, Part 2: New and Blue : wedding traditions Img 451 For my something blue, I will be wearing a second garter, since I don’t want to lose it in the garter toss (I DIYed a different garter for the toss, which I’ll share in my next post). I’ve had this blue garter since I was about 7 years old, and both my sister and I have worn it as a headband and for dressing up our stuffed animals and dolls, so I thought it would be fun to have it as my something blue. I still have no idea how I ended up with the garter in the first place, I know it came from a wedding I went to with my mom for one of her co-workers about 20 years ago, but how it came into my possession at this wedding… no clue!

Which of your “something old, new, borrowed or blue” was the easiest to pick?

Haha, that’s so random that you have this blue garter! I love it.

Old = Hanky from FMIL passed down through family

Blue and new! My shoes and my dress! I’m still working on the borrowed and old parts…

The garter could also technically be your “old” and “borrowed” than :P

I love the garter and I can’t believe you’ve had it so long. My old and borrowed might be the same…my great grandmother’s ring, asked my grandmother if I could use it for the day. If I need a different old, I’ll wear the diamond earrings my mom gave me when I was devastated about a bad break up…she told me someday I’d find another guy who would buy me diamonds, but the earrings would hold me over. I didn’t believe her line then, but I’m glad she was right!

I totally dig it! Great choice. New = necklace from mama HW, Old = a bracelet she’s passing down to me, Blue = I want shoes but haven’t found any, Borrowed = necklace I’ve always adored that mama owns.

My mom just gave me a sixpence for my shoe when she was visiting this weekend! Now I just have to figure out my something old….

My shoes are blue (light blue Chuck Taylors), my dress is new, and I’m going to see if I can sweet talk my best friend who is getting married next weekend into letting me borrow her veil. If she went with the one I think it it (it’s a very quickly planned wedding and hard to keep up with the details) it will match my dress perfectly as well.

Something new was easy, something old was ambiguous (pre-worn veil, but it’s less than a year old and it’s not borrowed…), but I have a surprise borrowed and blue and hopefully it’s old, too. ;)

I still have to figure out my somethings. Fun fact: the lining of my dress is baby blue, so I’m considering using that as my “something blue”!

New: dress, garter, veil, etc
Blue: Vintage bead bobby pin
Old: necklace passed down from generations that my mom, grandma, and great-grandma wore at their wedding (I’m having it wrapped around my bouquet to be different)
Borrowed: I suppose it could be the necklace, we will see!!

I LOVE your jewelry. Where did you get it? To be honest I haven’t even thought of anything yet, not to bad since I have 10months and 27days to go (ok so I keep a really close countdown). I’m considering my something blue to be my shoes, but pink shoes are also making me go weak in the knees, as pink and navy are our wedding colors. To bad I can’t find pink shoes with a navy bottom. :(
